I discovered AM first and loved it. Then I went back and listened to their older albums and loved them too. FWN is my 5th favorite album of all time in fact. That being said though I don't "hate" their new stuff and rather enjoy it. I think as a relatively new fan you don't have nostalgia clouding your judgement and can actually see and appreciate the evolution and diversity the band has brought over the past decade or so. This is one of the best bands in the WORLD, period. You guys should realize that.

Paolo Piecoro eh I disagree there friend. I feel like Alex's songwriting has definitely evolved and grew over the years and that shows in AM. Also, musically I feel like it's very diverse. There are a bunch of different sounds and instruments used that you just don't hear in WPSITWIN. Not to say that WPSIMTWIN isn't fantastic, because it it is.

They were good back then and they're good right now. For some reason the majority of this bands fan base doesn't realize that Bands and their music WILL CHANGE a lot over a period of time. Every newer album has sounded different than the one before it (for instance, college rock to surfer rock, surfer rock to mystical/dark rock, dark rock to "american" motorcycles and stuff rock, from american "rock" to darker yet "smooth" or "cool" rock. It has always been rock, and it has always been different) And Alex turner actually got his haircut during suck it and see..and that's a good album. Besides that, it's a haircut nothing special so i don't see why people complain. Well fault finders will find faults even in paradise.

“Talking alone to Turner, I suggest he is hounded by an early lyric from "Fake Tales of San Francisco": "You're not from New York City, you're from Rotherham." Like Pete Townshend's "I hope I die before I get old," it's become a stick to beat him with in every interview, with the implication that he is now the person he was criticising. "No," Turner corrects. "I'm now the person those people were pretending to be." He grins. "That suddenly felt very crass coming out of my mouth. That lyric was just for a small circle of people, to make them laugh. It didn't occur to me that it would end up striking a chord with a larger circle."

The song has been one of the band's signature tracks, with its popularity as the band's first recorded track. The song derides a fictional South Yorkshire band for taking its inspiration from the USA while never having been there, with lyrics such as "I'd love to tell you all my problem / You're not from New York City, you're from Rotherham", and "He talks of San Francisco, he's from Hunter's Bar". The song's title, however, has made it a fan favorite in the United States.
