Up here in The Great White North we have a great selection of "Junk" silver to choose from. There is plenty of %.50 / %.80 and even %.925 sterling. I got my start in stacking in 1965 with Sterling Canadian Half Dollars provided by my Grandma. They were still in use and circulation in 65, and she would gather them from the till at the movie theater where she ran the snack bar, and my uncle was the projectionist .... I love stories like yours! Those were the golden days. Wow, didn't know Canada had sterling coins. Highest grade circulated coin in my opinion. One thing the Brits got right. Spain got close to it with the Reales, pieces of eight. The idea of dividing their coins was brilliant and many did this to make change way out in the new territories that used them for money.

I have a goal of 10,000 Kennedy 40% halves and just about at 5,000 pieces now. The coin is easily recognized, probably not counterfeited, and the space to store is not all that much different. But the big thing that makes a difference is the premium over spot. So, assuming silver is at $25.50 (May 9, 2023), you can spend $10,000 on silver eagles at SD Bullion and come up with about 220 silver eagles, or you can spend $10,000 on Kennedy 40% halves and get 2,624 pieces and 388.05 troy ounces. When it comes time to sell, silver would necessarily have to move +$15/oz (up to spot price $40.50) to approximately breakeven on the silver eagles. ((Hope you thought about that, friends)). Meanwhile, at silver spot of $40.50, even if the worst buyer will pay spot minus $4 dollars ($36.50), you would get $14,163.50 for your 2,624 Kennedy 40% halves.

Much appreciated Seeker. I was going to email you asking that you did a video on 40’s. I have been roll hunting for about 9 months and in that time I have found and stacked just under 200 40’s. Like you mentioned in the video, they do take up a lot of space so I was hoping to get other opinions on if it is better to sell it and reinvest into bullion or even 90%. My thought has been, and I think that your video confirmed it, is that I am better off holding the 40’s. I knew that selling I would get less than spot for them and then have to pay a premium to upgrade to another form of silver, therefore paying money to have less silver in my stack. Even though I only paid face value for them, I am not in any hurry to lose money on them. Just a bit of input on selling though, folks are getting $65.00 to $75.00 plus shipping per roll of $10.00 face on eBay. Factoring in eBay fees, this equates to getting between $5.53 - $6.38 per dollar face. Making that a better option if you want to deal with everything involved in listing and shipping them. Even still, I think that I will continue to hold them.

For some reason, many overlook or don't count the stacking bonus of having free copper every time you buy 40% half dollar coins. For the same $3.40 face in 40% half dollars, there is the 1 oz SILVER mentioned & 1.5 oz of free copper. Many people would pay $2-3 for that amount when they buy 1 oz copper rounds. Since we are stacking for the long term and also have other barter silver items, these are excellent for deep stacking--when all coins are melted and the copper is much higher in price as well. I believe that 40% will close the gap on 90 once copper penny lovers reach this logic. Curious on some of those locals. Next video, ask how much they sell them for. I believe you will find some cheaper than SD bullion.

According to Coin Inflation the 40% Kennedy Half Dollars has a meltdown of $2.80, and the 1964 Kennedy Half Dollar has a meltdown of $6.84. When I put these in my Generic Half Dollar Folders one cannot tell the difference in the look between a 40% and 90%, they both shine much more than Clad. I also collect Brown Ikes, (40% Proof). The way I reson it if one is going for coin collecting and looks in a folder the price per each savings is justified. Stacking is a different animal. The only reason why I would consider buying/hunting 90% or 40% is because of its flexibility, collectability, and the thrill of the hunt. Like silver eagles it's both fiat and silver. However unlike silver eagles, 90% and 40% are no longer produced and the people who took them kept them so not many left circulating which drives their premium high. Even higher than eagles some might say. I went hunting recently around small town banks and out of 500$ only found 6 40% and 1 walker 90% (1937 and I was lucky or someone planted it). So would I buy 40% or 90%? I personally, NO. The silver ratio and premiums are crazy and I would save more money buying 1k dollars worth of 10 oz bars then I would buying 1k dollars of 90% let alone 40% but that's only because I buy silver for silver not the collectability of 90% and 40%.

Does that $6.23 mean that each 40% silver half is worth approximately $3.11? And are 1970s worth a little bit more?

Its for 2 of them, ($1 face value). And yes, the 1970 Half Dollars are worth more than the 65-69 Half Dollars.

I had $750 worth of half dollars. My coin dealer didn't even want them. So I turned them into the bank and bought gold. I also have $200 isenhowe r dollars and my coin dealer doesn't want them either. I do still have them.

And now the premiums just went up on 40% Kennedys. I love all of the info that streamers put out but I believe it is directly causing premiums to increase. Spot doesn't really move too much so the premiums are an excuse jack up prices. I don't mean to be negative here (and this isn't against SS as he has been quite honest with his opinion of silver) but it seems like the tubers that keep harping silver going $100 already have significant amounts of silver. Reddit anyone? We as regular peeps can't affect spot but we can affect premium prices. And now SDB is out. LOL!

Yes. The higher silver goes the more demand for 40%.

Ha ha! I forget to hit record sometimes. It's annoying to shoot a video and realize you have to do it all over again. 😂
