There’s an interesting concept from C.G. Jung which was hard to swallow for me and I think it also applies very well for me watching this video. Namely Jung said you react strong about others what is inside yourself. I recognize a lot of trains behavior patterns in myself but at the same time I reject them while observing how train behaves. And it’s also this duality of having somewhat narcissistic defense behaviors while only wanting to do good. It’s as if being attacked was drilled so deep into my sense of self that the repetition compulsion is always going on in the background it’s become the standard mode of operation. I think it’s even more true when you’re surrounded with a certain type of people who react very hostile with every display of vulnerability you show to the outside. And I also recognized the tainted view you acquire about the world where you self sabotage yourself about when people genuinely offer you sympathy. It’s as if something is off about it though from time to time I meet people by whom I truly feel accepted and not judged. It’s a fucking mess for the brain to wrap itself around it. Because it collides so much with what you learned as truth. Man are these videos helpful! A lot of thanks going to both train and dr K for what they’re doing. It’s so insightful. I think it’s for the first time this year in my life I not only have learned so much about how the psyche operates but also to recognize the maladaptive behavior patterns in myself. And I think I only managed it through the distance observing others in this kind of talks and watching other videos on stuff as CPTSD.

@@dantecasola599 I’m glad to see so many people interested in self improvement! I don’t know if I’ll ever get where I want to be. But I know for sure I won’t stop trying. It’s as if I feel my sole purpose is to get rid of this bad karma. Everything else feels like a loss of my time on this earth. I mean I’m impaired for sure with my maladaptive behavior patterns. On top I can’t really rid myself of stuff such as hypervigilance or panic attacks in certain social context. But I learned that it mostly has to do with suppressed anger or shame. And...they of course stem from certain beliefs and experiences. And than there is also the false self I present to the outside world - except for good friends. It’s as dr K said - exhausting. And I don’t want to waste my life like that. I think I started to see a path, namely, when you give up yourself to others (not by suppressing your own needs - but rather with the attitude to not take yourself as so important) you can break through the ego. Curious if anyone has thoughts about that or experiences!

Being egoistic and being self conscious are not mutually exclusive. Train seems extremely egotistical to me in the sense that he is deeply tied up in his identity and his sense of self as a lens through which to understand the world. Even the way he discusses his flaws seemed framed in such a way that he is ultimately sympathetic or not at fault for the way other people receive him. Doesn't necessarily make him a bad person or a narcissist or a sociopath, although that mentality can make you behave harmfully in certain situations, but ego is a huge obstacle to being a better person.

Mm.. Food I love to see other DOOM fans around. What's your favourite album? Also, I think having a high ego isn't directly correlative to being a narcissistic; just don't rule it out. I think Train foists blame on others for his own perceived flaws rather than introspection. He seems very flawed and entwined in his identity, and that makes the issues he has a lot more penetrating and piercing to him.

In my experience growing up with a supposed narcissist (IMO), I used to think a similar concept you mentioned around the 1:25:30 mark, but found it to be very unwieldy as a measure to classify a narcissist just because it's so hard to pin down whether or not their interpretation is just that or if it's actually a fact. I feel like you need to know the person for a long time and even be there in the exact moment, for the situation they were describing, happened in order to completely understand context. What I've come to believe is that the LCD for distinguishing a narcissist is that they lie A LOT. Particularly when it's concerned with other people's reputation. Because narcissists get their power by controlling public opinion. I think Narcissists are created through trauma and they learned that the tools of a narcissist can be an escape for it, a defense mechanism for their ego. You never have to be afraid of walking into a room when you control what they think about each other (negative) and about you (positive). Obviously I'm leaving out some details here since I don't want to write an essay, but I wonder if you know who Dr. Ramani is and her work with narcissism? She has a pretty good sized channel on youtube and her videos are (afaik) all about exploring Narcissism in depth. Her videos have been so validating and disturbingly accurate in fact that I sometimes wonder if she's pulling a trick on me and her community. Would be super cool if you guys had a talk together in-depth about narcissism.

One of the problems is that most people have no clue what personality disorders are, and even how and what personality is. We allow people to blatantly talk horse shit and abuse people and applaud them because "They're being themselves, telling the truth etc." If we actually understood what actually causes people to behave in such a grandiose, delusiknal, entitled way we may start to take them with a grain of salt. Npd is really born out of children who are so diminished and abused that they to build a fascade as a defence against those feelings of inferiority. Imagine a person who got bullied and learned to stand up for himself but he still feels shame inferiority about his past because he did not intergrate, he instead split himself, hence the brittle ego of the narcissist. What we are dealing with here are severly traumatised children who become adults, still using infantile defence mechanisms to cope. People who grow up with narcissistic parents are more likely to accept these people in their circle. Passing them off as "He just has a strong personality, or, "She's abit of sore lose", "He's not afraid to speak his mind". If we don't want live with toxic people we need to start calling out people's bullshit and holding them accountable.

It's so odd that people have this perception of Train that he's arrogant or this mean guy since he's actually pretty genuine as Dr. K stated. As someone who's in their early 20s, I feel like people tend to have these negative perceptions of people based on their own personal experience with individuals who might have similar characteristics. For instance, I noticed that I tend to think negatively of specific individuals who fit a certain physical characteristic type, and I've figured out where that negative perspective stems from and trying to actively rewire my brain in that regard. I'm actually more empathetic towards men who remind me of my older siblings. It's interesting how our brain tends to associate positive or negative thoughts towards people based on these biases that we have.

anyone else noticed how incredible clear train becomes in his speech when he talks about his school experience? also another thing that i noticed in his school story is he talks for like 30min straight about his whole school experience and didnt mention the actual material he was supposed to learn once. like usally bullying impacts grades and people at least mention it in those stories.

This suddenly strongly reminded me of the discussion with HotshotGG. Bad stuff has happened to him and to avoid the anger, he accepts that world is just wrong in that exact way it was wrong to him.

Fuck this is pretty true, and I fkn love train. Also reminds me of the book Catcher in The Rye. It's like the trauma has become large in his world and he projects as thats the state of the world but in truth only the state of his world. I find there's no problem with living in your own world and I'm sure theres a lot of people who can relate to his story.

if you want to be PAID to exist or to be the center of someone elses attention YES you are a narcissist. no value or lessons lerned from these people and more so the PRIDE types have INFESTED it it's destroyed Gamer culture and i'm no longer really giving Twitch or DISCORD (because thats far worse) my attention i hope they fade away like other things i have no use for in my reality.

I mean train is talking himself about that but when I’m listening to him it’s like all the talk he is giving comes from a false self. The whole time he is talking about himself and what he’s been through but it feels like he isn’t talking about himself at all. I mean if that makes sense? :) it’s interesting because even train knows the real self is down there. Maybe, it’s just my hypothesis, he is a bit frightened to acknowledge his own shadow because it would kind of proof those guys right who appointed all those attributes to him. But the shadow isn’t what we really are - it’s rather what we reject about ourself. The more we reject it the more it wants to be a part of us. But on the opposite if we integrate it it lose its force and velocity. I think this also boils down to the death of ego.

The way Train frames his answers is so strange. He has this propensity for rejecting his internal experience and instead projecting it onto other people. Almost feels like he doesn't have any concrete sense of self. Every answer is about "them", never about "I".

Some of us were raised to see society as bad or evil, and so anyone who is popular must be mentally ill and malicious. I was raised as a Jehovahs witness and they loved to talk about how awful everyone else is and they constantly warned us against associated with the "worldly" people because they were wicked... I was taught to be disgusted in the idea of projecting a social image, so i grew up thinking anyone who is socially successful or confident is actually just a narcissist or sociopath... I should go on this stream cuz holy shit do i have a complex lol

The title of this video is too blanketed, really not sure why that was chosen since every person that streams content on Twitch, KZitem, etc. has their own personality and reasons. This is not a video to address everyone and I feel like it's mislabeled. You can't say streamers are or are not narcissists or even have narcissistic tendencies without taking context into consideration. Blanket statements are terrible, stop doing that.

Security and confidence isn't what makes streamers seem narcissistic. The moments where they dismiss certain donos/collaborators/friends in order to talk about themselves is when they are judged to be narcissistic, because these moments are few and subtle it's not as easy to criticize them. Now take a streamer who talks about themselves and is confident a lot BUT also shows humility towards others (MYTH comes to mind) few people would actually see them as narcissistic. Other examples are streamers who also show a lot of genuine concern for things that aren't in their immediate selfish interest like Devin Nash, Dr. K., Reckful or actually Trainwrecks even

TELL HIM THE ANSWER: He needs to find his self-worth because it was taken from him and he's angry/forgiving about it. I get that it can be helpful for someone to arrive at the conclusion themselves... but sometimes knowing the solutions and arriving there is just as good. Using Google Maps does not make you a bad person, you still have to drive there, but it helps knowing where to go.

Train is a genuinely nice person who is traditionally masculine, both in appearance and in the way with which he comports himself. That is pretty rare in 2020, and these 2 traits are often viewed as mutually exclusive when, in fact, they are absolutely not. The current zeitgeist frames a "manly man" as someone who peddles "toxic masculinity," but Train is absolutely not the villain that some may view him as, and being a man's man does not disqualify one from being a good person. If I had to summarize the root of Train's frustration, it would be this: "being masculine does not make me evil, but the current climate views all masculinity as evil. That bothers me because I can't change the fact that I am masculine, and to be dismissed out of hand as a bad guy simply for who I am is unfair and wrong of people to do." Love you Tyler, and love you as well Doc. This was insightful.

its because of puberty. it makes you autonomous. and puberty is very short. only like 2 years max. so in 5 grade you have people who are not even in puberty and some who are already out of it. i think it it in fact THE biggest problem with our school system. its like putting adults and children together in one room with barely any supervision. and worse, because the "adults" are unsocialized adults. what could go wrong? the bullying in higher grades is from my experience 100% just a lingering left that started in lower grades. and yes this lingering includes trauma (but also often people just got stuck in the loop and then you have situations where both, the bully and the victim, ask each other "why do you even bully me wtf?")

The issue is far too complex and nuanced (even to the point where a 2 hr video couldn't hope to cover everything) for a single sentence comment to be sufficiently prescriptive. Fundamentally speaking, a platform/form of content that (usually) centers around a single person/group is going to attract people that want to be paid attention to. Secondly, self deprecation is easy to be looked at as a reasoning against someone having grandiose traits, but it isn't that simple. This isn't me saying people who self deprecate are or aren't displaying those traits, I'm simply saying it's more complex than a yes/no answer. For instance, what if a narcissist is praised as being humble for self deprecating or admitting mistakes? Being looked at that way would be a easy way for a narcissist to feel good about themselves/validate their image of themselves. Other than that, RWhiteGoose is/was a good example of someone with grandiose traits that managed to hide them for a very long time.
