I think my biggest issue with some of the asian stereotypes is how some will strip your credit. Like I'll hear a lot when I'm effective or good at something, they'll just throw out "yeah but its because you're asian". Which to me just feels like they disregard all the hard work I put into anything, and to me thats probably the most annoying one. Well tbh there aren't that many that actually annoys me but that one, because that one happens so frequently for no reason. Mind you I live in sweden.

I agree with Phil that all the knowledge about roads and your intelligence of driving is the most important factor!
@IpodModzPr0
8 жыл бұрын
I think driving intelligence and road knowledge comes after driving skill. Let's say we have two drivers, one very skilled, and an average commuter. We put them in a city they've never been to, and have them drive from one location to the next, with someone giving them directions on the fly. Obviously, the skilled driver will do it better. Now, we put them in their hometown, and have them do the same thing. Makes sense that, with good driving skill, and knowledge of the roads, the skilled driver would still be better. The only situation I see that an average commuter would be slightly better is if they have hometown road knowledge, while the skilled driver is being given directions, and even then, you could argue the skilled driver would still do a better job from getting from point A to point B. Just my two cents, haha

I agree that the word asian is also so limiting. As a Filipino, we sometimes get overlooked as just plain asian or pacific islander but we're not even an island. We're an archipelago. What about people in malaysia, India, thailand, Vietnam? Does asia only have fair to medium skin tone and small eyes? Or is asia only china, Japan and Korea? Our concept of Asia is too limited. Or maybe... Threes no need for boundaries anymore.

Driving a manual does make you a better driver! As we call it here, reason number one if you have license for an automatic car here you cant drive a manual one, but if you have a license for a manual car here you can drive pretty much any vehicle (here is the UK), but the guy who stated what he thought about what driving is, has a point and i think he is right.

Both my parents are bad at Math and so am I. I remember getting bad grades in Math even in just elementary school where it was basic time tables, addition, and subtraction. In high school I had to take Math 11 twice... And then that was the last of the math classes for me. Couldn't dream of taking Calc or Psych or Chemistry or Stats - that'd be way too hard. My strong suit has always been English and Socials. Also, no one in my family or extended family has ever taken martial arts. It has never been part of my family's tradition. I actually agree with Phil on the 'driver intelligence' thing. I consider my dad the better overall driver but I actually think that I am a safer and better driver if we're purely considering ability. But since he knows the roads, shortcuts and specific dangers of certain areas (e.g., certain roads will have cars parked in the left lane that I wouldn't otherwise know), I therefore think he's 'better' than me. Lunch Break always seems to come out when I'm about to eat dinner. Also, all stereo types are bogus when they're blanket generalizations, any race can be a bad driver, good dancer, or cheap. Some can be attributed to real differences but even then some reject their own culture or drift away from it when they experience alternate cultural types, making them exceptions. #toodeepimgonnagowatchagoofyletsplaynow

The-"too nice for his own good," The "Side-kick," The "wise old sensei," The "joke." These are the four ways Asian men are portrayed in Western movies and entertainment. Tired of it, I just want to see someone like me portrayed as the hero who gets the girl. NOT THE SIDE GIRL WHO NO ONE CARES ABOUT, the protagonist girl. The super attractive, charismatic girl. Never see it happen. Hollywood has a bad habit of believing minorities belong to minorities and White people deserve White people. Tired of it.

Asians tend to think more logical which makes math easy to understand. I actually used math Algebra in Commercial Art. As a Police Officer doing Commercial Enforcement and Accident investigation, math came into use. As a Police Officers, Asians immigrants were bad drivers. The reason? In Japan, people only drive if they have a car. You can have a car unless you can prove you have some place to park. So the first thing people from Japan do is get a driver's license and buy a car. In America, most people start driving at 16 so they have all this experience. Immigrants may get their license in their 30's and have no experience. I also took Judo, Kendo and Karate. Why? Because my Dad also taught.

I did well in math, but not great. We also had a thing to test out of 7th grade math, but you were chosen to take it based on your 6th grade math grade. I didn't pass the test but I got into honors. Then in AP Calc, I got my first C. I had a bad case of senioritis at that time. I also didn't take any martial arts classes. I was a swimmer and an ice skater. Driving-wise, I'm ok? I got into an accident once coming out of a gas station because some red car just came out of nowhere when I thought it was clear to turn. The red car was speeding and ran a red light. They ran the security cameras and caught her, but because I was younger and the other car had the right of way, it was my fault.

I was homeschooled, so I can't say about advanced placement and all that. I didn't get up to higher calculus, but I'm better than my coworkers at calculating stuff in my head. I'm a terrible driver. Chinese people from China HAVE to drive incredibly aggressively to keep the flow of traffic. Japanese people rarely drive because the mass transit systems are so good, so when they come here and rent cars, they don't know what they're doing. I took a bunch of martial arts, but never got good at anything, but I feel like that's normal for middle class American boys in general, regardless of race.

Driving kind of just jumped up on me. Two seconds ago we were all 10 year olds that had to beg our parents to go anywhere and now everywhere I look there are people in my grade popping up w their drivers licenses, taking their tests, or only have a few hours left. There are some others that aren't quite old enough like me but I haven't even signed up for drivers ed yet (also the cost and waiting list at some of these places is ridiculous) but I probably won't take it for like 2 years because I'll be an exchange student next year and I can't drive there so here's no point in spending the money or time right now if I'm only going to be licensed for a few months (and probably too scared to drive myself most of the time w my Asian woman-ness har har and the general unsafe feeling of driving in the hilly turny backwoods of New England anyway) I'll just bum rides off of my parents a LITTLLLEEE while longer

One time this girl sat next to me over a surface area test and I blanked out and pretty much failed the test. Afterwards, my friend told me the girl next to me was cheating off of my test and I just laughed and said "Well, looks like she failed that test." She never sat next to me ever again. ^-^ Lesson is: don't stereotype Asians and cheat off of them in math unless you know they're smart o u o (or just don't cheat but ya know, you do you I guess)

i gave up on math freshmen year when i had to take geometry, it wasn't hard but it was just plain annoying. I decided to take Algebra 2/Trig Honors sophomore year and almost failed...literally, i got my grade from a F to a B though so i saved myself (should not have taken honors, quote my sisters that took regular "take honors the class is so easy")...I didn't want to take a risk anymore so i dropped honors junior year and took regular precalc...unlike phil, that class was so easy for me, not showing off but i was considered the smart on in my class but algebra2/trig i was the stupid one lol. Taking AP Calc AB this year #senior...easy so far but probably will get harder later. lots of ppl dropped the AP and went to College Calc...there is also AP calc BC...nvr in my life will i take that class i still need to take my road test, but my dad when he drives my sister to college upstate, he has gotten i think like 3 or so speeding tickets....my brother is a black belt in taekwondo...my mom said for him to quit in high school i think or when he gets a certain dan

I mainly watch films from America/Hollywood and especially really like the recent movies from the marvel franchise. However starting to get a bit tiring with not seeing any Asians. Usually the Asian is probably some non speaking Asian actor and female if there is ever one. I don't have a problem if they're all white actors but then you have the blacks who complain so get they lead roles but they still complain and then make fun of Asians at the Oscars. Yeah foff. Even if it is just one lead Asian character I don't have a problem with rather than just some Asian actor from hong kong or china or korea just because they are want to "market" the movie to those markets. Moved away from watching any of the American tv shows a long time ago. Now trying to figure out how to move away from the movies.

It's interesting that there can be conflicting stereotypes, i.e., knowing martial arts and emasculation. I suppose you could be very bad at martial arts and therefore seem less "manly". Just a thought I had. Thank you for another episode!!

coincidentally, I'm doing maths right now while watching this & I'm Asian (Singaporean). Only because my test is on Monday and I haven't been studying. But i don't think the stereotype is true because if you study in an Asian country, not everyone is good at maths.

Well, I grew up in Japan, so I guess, for me, Asian men were the first standard of beauty that I was exposed to. I still find Asian men attractive, but emasculation is kind of prescient in Japan. Japanese men don't think that being a bulky type of macho is considered attractive. As for bad driving, I'm terrified to ride in a car in this country. XD

I love that Christine and Wes went to battle over the whole driving thing while Taylor is instigating and Wes is just scoopin his avocado peacefully.. hahaha! P.S. I am always looking for people in movies/t.v that don't fit the stereotype society has given them ie. peaceful Muslims, educated black people, etc. and asian leading men are definitely on that list

I am so bad at maths.. 😂 I never had a good grade. But I was good at sports and music so yay haha and I don't have a license yet (it's so expensive over here -.-) but I'd say my mum is a good driver! Also, some people used to ask me if I was Jackie Chan's sister and assumed I could do martial arts and I wish I did/do but I never took martial arts classes. 😅✌🏼️

Dang I fit into those stereotypes...I was called the human calculator throughout HS and college, no accident and no citation (knock on wood), judo for four years, and I disagree with the Asian guys can't be romantic

I know y'all are in So Cali, so you know darn well that the Asian Drivers are bad drivers conception has kernel of truth. I've been both rear-ended and t-boned this year alone by little old Asian men driving Hondas. Don't even get me started on Corrolla drivers. 😒 And the next episode of First: driving contest - who scores the best on the DMV behind the wheel test. #AsianDrivers

Not going to lie, I'm half Asian & when my mom moved us to Monterey Park to live with sister, her insurance sky rocketed so much, and also her other sister lives in Alhambra and her insurance is also super high once she entered "high risk" zones. But I don't think it's all Asians, I just think it's people who just came to the US, and also those two cities have a high number.

I think that because of the "Asians are smart" stereotype, I feel as if all of the long hours studying and doing homework means nothing. It's as if all of the effort I put into my work is left unseen just because I'm Asian. Plus, if I do mess up and I don't get a good grade on something everyone is like "What?! I thought you were Asian!" Which is kind of painful but at my age I have learned to ignore it. I've accepted it and I don't care what people say, my parents are proud of me and that's what matters to me 😊
