I'm the chief designer of Flag&Armour,I am very glad to see the review of this product. I want to point out that if the correct bearing scar is used, nerf will perform better. It is recommended to use type-A for high muzzle velocity, which is 5° bearing scar, and Type-A is also suitable for most nerfs. For nerf with lower muzzle velocity, it is recommended to use bearing scar with a slightly larger angle, such as type-B or type-C. According to our tests and customer feedback, the original MK3 Challenger is suitable for type-B. Nerf with a muzzle velocity lower than 40M/S recommends using type-C, and Nerf with a muzzle velocity higher than 60M/S recommends using Type-A. BTW, the type-A bearing scar has good performance after being installed on various nerf with muzzle velocity, but it is more suitable for nerf with muzzle velocity higher than 60M/S. If you want more products to be tested, you can contact me and I will mail you more test samples for free.

I did some math and reached an interesting conclusion. The friction of string scars rob a fixed amount of energy from the dart no matter the fps. So at lower fps a string scar is robbing a higher percentage of the dart's energy. But I calculated that the energy required to spin up one bearing is 0.6% of the dart's energy, so 5.4% for 9 bearings, no matter the fps. This explains why bearing scars perform better at low fps and worse at high fps. The total percentage loss in a bearing scar still varies a bit depending on the fps because the bearings have some friction, and you have different optimal barrel lengths depending on the fps.
@joelnord4699

In terms of physics, dart stability improvement is dependan on a specific rotational speed (rpm). So for a given rifling twist rate (degrees of rotation per distance traveled) the rpm increases as dart velocity increases. Too little velocity for a given twist rate and the dart will not spin fast enough to achieve best acvuracy; too much velocity for a given twist rate and an out-of-phase harmonic developes that causes the dart tumble which in turn reduces both accuracy and downrange velocity. In short, the lower the velocity, the faster the twist rate you need and vice versa. Less speed, more twist; more speed, less twist.

I'm curious to see how the bearing SCAR directly compares to SCARs with printed rifling. Seems like the main reason why string SCARs affect FPS so much is by increasing your twist you're effectively decreasing the ID of the scar. Printed rifling won't have that issue so I'm curious how the two compare to each other.

With bearing SCARs existing now, do you see yourself using a 400+ FPS flywheeler instead of a springer? I'm not a nerfer since I quite like the range and accuracy advantages not to mention ammo cost and coolness, but it would certainly be interesting to see a .300 cal micro dart flywheeler or springer being made, as it may actually compete quite well with airsoft seeing as you can hit people at 70m, about the effective range of most snipers unless they have too much time on their hands and manage to do 110m. Also, may be interesting to try putting a suppressor on a springer and doing a bunch of sound mods like putting foam and aluminum tape in hollow areas, or a layer of automotive dampener mat in the worst of places, maybe wrapped around a plunger tube, as us airsofters can achieve an extremely quiet, nearly silent gun perfect for stealthy snipe stuff.

I don't care about the copying for 2 reasons. 1st is simply legal. If the MK3 designers wanted exclusive production rights patents exist for a reason but imho it's not significantly different from a scar to deserve a patent. 2nd is the scar innovation was originally done by community members as free and open source. Unless your scar barrel exactly the same as someone elses then it's not copying. Also we have been completely comfortable with copying hasbro's designs and other companies too. For example worker don't pay kriss a license fee for using their design on the vector kit. Either this is an open and collaborative hobby or it isn't. The only issue I take is with direct carbon copies. Everything else is just modding
