Our 8 month Cane Corso is great! Listens well but took work to get to where he is. We used Will’s perfect puppy course to train him since he was 6.5 weeks old. His protective side is starting to come out but we are militant with his training and will continue to lead him! Thanks Will!!!

I had large dogs all my life and I'm planning to get another one relatively soon. I love giant protective dogs and I've been trying to choose between a cane corso and a Central Asian shepherd for months. After careful consideration, I decided to go with a cane corso.

From my experience with training my first Cane Corso is more or less how you described. For a Mastiff it's a very inteligent dog. Mine is now 10 months old i noticed new behaviur. He tries to ignore me when i'm giving him commands. He responds well to werbal correction and usually it takes one semi-angry "a-a" to make him do what i dold him but i think the real journey with molding his character and behaviour just began.

I have a female puppy and it's challenging...Stubborn, physical, protective and dominant. She needs a lot of exercise, obedience training and mental stimulation. My experience with GSDs and Boxers was definitely easier.

My impression is the same. She had grown a lot and became much easier to handle, more docile and calm because of the amount of training. She’s having protection and obedience sessions twice a week, definitely a working dog. Not for everyone, very special, love her to death. ❤

I have had 2 Rottweilers not at the same time. They were the best well behaved. I was looking and the heads on them are much different than my German ones. I have a 16yo dachshund he was a rescue. I have always wanted a Cane Corso but I want to have my next dog be my psychiatric service dog. How do you think they would be in public areas with strangers??? 🤔

If you don't train a Lab or a Spaniel correctly, then you'll end up with an overly-excited dog that jumps up, barks, maybe nips and doesn't come when called - an annoyance. If you don't train a Cane Corso correctly, then there's a good chance that people will end up mauled or dead. And since most people can't teach their 'easy' breeds much more than their name and how to sit, it really bothers me that Cani Corsi are becoming so popular and easy to get a hold of here in the UK. It's not about being 'tough', as someone else in the comments claimed. It's about knowing how to properly train and socialise a big, strong, sometimes stubborn and testing dog breed. And most people don't have the know-how, never mind the time or the will to raise one correctly, which does not bode well for the breed.

If someone can handle a pit who was rescued from a bad home at 6 months, could that person handle a Cane Corso?

Mastiffs are generally not easy to train. They are tough dogs with personality. Guardian breeds meant to analyze and act on it, fearless. But they are still eager to obey and follow a strong leader. And the Corso is usable for a lot. No.1 rule, if you want a tough dog... YOU have to be an even more tough (rock solid) as a leader. The dog should respect and look up to you. A dogs respect can only be earned.

A dog as tough as a Cane Corso, demands a tough human. 95% of those wanting a Corso is not tough enough to lead one. Most humans has become soft and comfort seeking. This is not the proper owner for a Cane Corso. You need a be brave, be hard and have an Iron mind. If you passes this, owning a Mastiff is really not that hard (speaking from experience) ;)

No !!! No they are not freaking easy to train!! I know I have a 6 month old who’s eating my house!!

They normally start eating the house because they're not mentally stimulated. My parents have a 5 month old, they are stubborn, I know.

A crate and talking to them will help. I have a one year old Cane Corso and she remarkably intelligent and very easy to train because of talking and rewarding. Most dogs remember words. So talk talk talk!! Reward Reward Reward!!! Potty training was a breeze…She hates to disappoint me. If you love, love on them, they will go out of their way to to keep you happy 🤞🏽

No...not compared to the GSD or Belgian. I have a 6th month old Corso. He is stubborn, smart, and dominant. He loves women and is aloof to most men/boys. Likes playing with other dogs.
@Wushu-viking
Жыл бұрын
As long as you can keep the dominance and never show fear/insecurity, your Corso should continue to like playing with other dogs. First thing many dog owners get wrong, is radiating insecurity(fear) when they let their dogs play. The last thing you want is to let your Mastiff sense that fear. Because it will think you might be insecure about the other dog... and it will then show you its loyalty, by taking care of the threat. Not good.
