Thanks for sharing! Must have been early morning because Petaling street looks very quiet😀 I miss our photo walks every time I see you walking around with a camera,

I think older cameras are so fun to play around with. I actually prefer them over the newer cameras. Older technology still works great.

Couldn't agree more with this comment. It's all about the fun factor. It's fun to work for a good photo and more rewarding.

Great video Robin! I love my old Canon S100! So tiny, pocket-able and fun to use. I've had it for more than 10 years and its one of my favourite camera to shoot.

I'd love to try the Canon S100 if I have the chance. It has larger sensor, full manual control, brighter and better optics, so overall it is an advanced compact camera, certainly very capable even for today.

I would love a new very compact camera with small sensor, fast AF, etc. Something very small like the Sony WX150, but with up to date processing power and AF and video recording. An everyday carry camera with 25-250mm zoom, with few manual control, like only shutter speed priority, aperture priority or fully auto. Raw photo. Something simple, easy, fast and very pocketeable

Once again a *great* video. Still have a few old (very old) working CCD digital cameras : Ricoh RR120, HP Photosmart 715, Pentax EI-2000, Pentax K200d, Olympus E500, Olympus cw-8080, Leica D-Lux 4 and my oldest one a Sony Mavica FD83. I love using them, it's close to latest SLR film cameras and some are with very exotic designs, obsolete memory cards (xD, SM, CF, and even floppy disks), slow (and sometime) inaccurate AF, slow write speed, crappy screens but they also oblige you to understand what you are doing, and not just rely on the camera's "intelligence" .

Robin, Thank you for sharing! I deeply agree with your sharing. I think I should use the camera I already have. As expected, compact cameras have become too expensive in the used market here in Korea as well.

Hi Robin, I also followed the trend of CCD sensors for a long time: Olympus XZ-1 and E-500. The imperfection has a certain charm. I think the color rendition was mainly based on analog film, which used to be the reference, not from the sensor itself. At the end of the day, I appreciate the output of modern sensors and would always prefer them.

I have an old Olympus E-400 with a 10 MP CCD sensor. I once tried shooting the same photos with my OM-1 and the E-400 using the 14-35mm/2.0 on both. The JPGs from the cameras had somewhat different colors. I think this is mostly a question of preference, not that one type of older color style is better than the newer. But I understand that some might like the "old style" colors.

If you like small old cameras, also try to find some CASIO. Even my QV-R40 from 2004 has very fast AF and overal operation except flash cycle time is surprisingly fast. It also does not know what shutter lag is, which was usual problem with most cameras 20y ago.

Great video! Regardless of the sensor in the camera, buying smart and using the camera and having fun, I have many digicams 5-16 mega pixel CCD sensor. I never paid more than $100. for any. I picked ups some for $3.00. Depending where you live, there are still some bargains, but know what you are buying into. Batteries, memory cards cords can be expensive. Thanks for sharing Robin.

Hi thanks for the content. What do you think about the canon Powershot pro 1 in 2024?

Call me crazy but in every day situations what matters is dynamic range, color reproduction, autofocus and white balance. We don’t need bulky cameras with big sensors, crazy shallow depth of field with expensive lenses and 60fps burst mode. I would happily trade my 20/25mp camera for 16mp if it positively affected dynamic range and iso performance.

I think the understanding of lower pixel count giving more dynamic range and color performance are not relevant anymore. Look at the Micro Four Thirds 20MP sensor, it was superior to the older 16MP generation, about 1 stop difference. And the 16MP also was much improved from the previous 12MP sensor which really was quite bad in terms of dynamic range and high ISO, color shifts are bad as you increase the ISO numbers. In terms of AF and white balance, those have come a looooong way, faster and more powerful processor definitely played a role.

@@robinwong My BMPCC4K has 8MP mft sensor (4K DCI) and still is unbeatable for new mft cameras in terms of color, dynamic range and iso performance. I think new, big sensors performed well because of other technology advancements, despite getting higher resolution (sony 7R) or staying with same resolution (canon r6). If only we could transplant those other advancements to lower MP mft sensors… On the other hand, latest stacked sensors from Canon (R5m2) and global shutter sensor from Sony (a9m3) are both regressions in terms of iso performance and dynamic range so maybe our engineers have run out of their tricks. In conclusion - making higher resolution and faster sensor requires better handling of signal integrity to properly eliminate additional noise injection. Don’t go there if you are unable to offset those deficits. I guess OM1 with slower sensor would handle noise better.

I share your opinion about buying ccd cameras or any cameras with high money is waste of money. These ccd cams should be readily available on many thrift stores, recycling centers, family or colleagues daughter's bff mom where you might get them cheap or ever free. However I do encourage trying ccd cams. They are fun and geared for documenting any social situation you are in. Much like smartphones by the way but has unique look.
