I have a pair of there lower profile shoe that I wear for a daily walking around/daily activity shoe. I love them and plan to get another pair if they ever wear down. I’ve had them for close to a year and they show almost zero wear.

I've been using the Whitin minimal shoes for running, and my first pair I had over 500 miles on them before the soles started wearing out. I was actually really surprised how well they held up for $40 shoes!

Funny, I’ve had a pair of these ever since we discussed them on the Adventure Jogger podcast 😂 I actually like them for around town use because the colors are fun but they’re not my top pick for runs!

Imho many “high” priced shoes are crap. Can’t tell you how many $130-$200 shoes were epic fails. Why are big brand shoes expensive? Because we are willing to pay it - kinda like everything else 🤪 good review and topic 👍🏃♂️🏃♂️

I use this brand’s “barefoot” shoe for my OrangeTheory classes! I got the cheap knockoff because I wasn’t sure I’d like a minimal shoe and just wanted to try it. Unexpectedly, they feel really great. I don’t feel the need to get a more expensive one! I’m a little hesitant to road run in it because of the lack of cushion, but as a treadmill/gym shoe it’s really comfy. Surprising!

Thanks for the awesome review as always. I’ve been wondering about these. I use their everyday shoe all the time. 2 different colors. They are great quality and just can’t beat the price.

👍 Love these shoes. Brought a pair over a year ago and was so comfortable brought a few more. Have my wife now enjoying that WHITIN foot pleasure. Awesome shoe.

I wear their barefoot/minimal trainers as my daily shoe. Kind of like a knock off Xero shoe. Basically just an outsole and an insole, but the outsole has lasted a couple of years. Getting close to wearing them out, but not bad for the ~$30 I spent on them. I've also worn their not-really-Vibram like trail shoes. Decent shoe, and good for jumping into the minimal footwear thing, but not great for longer runs. More of a water shoe/sock.

I'm an Aussie (ultra runner) living in China, and also tried this experiment (but not with this brand). Right now I've been wearing no-brand runners for less than USD$10 a pair, and they're awesome! Like you say, not AS great as a top-model from a top-brand, but hell, not far off them either. Certainly good enough to train on. Basic facts on them. * I've used them for the past 5 years * My milage is usually 100km per week * I get around 400-500km off each pair before they're too flat * I'm 54 and have glass legs (especially shins), but haven't had injury issues running in these.

Mystery shoe! Wow can’t beat the price though. 😯 I trust it when you say they’re worth it, you’re basically a running shoe expert.

They are big in bearfoot shoes. My five fingers cost over $100 and xero is around $120. Whitin is $42😅

Probably it is made by the same factory that makes hoka, using a water-down hoka foam that will last a little bit less than hoka's.

Since $140 seems to pretty much be the starting point for running shoes, if you bought 4 pairs of these for $160 and got a total of 800 miles out of the 4 pairs, they would be a STEAL (assuming you otherwise were happy with the shoe, of course). They would also make a good "extra" shoe for someone who has good shoes, wants to cycle in another pair, but doesn't have the cash right now. Also, if you have one of those middle/high school boys who outgrows shoes every 6 months, this would be a good buy for them, too (even just for regular wearing/gym sneakers).

problem with cheap shoes is they compare poorly to last year's $140 shoes that have been reduced to 60

Mass shoe manufacturing in China creates a lot of pollution and it’s easy for us to have a disposable society when we don’t see it. This shoe probably is a good “gateway” for those thinking of becoming more serious about running since it’s a low-risk investment.
