Battery life - Obviously a cordless vacuum cleaner has a limited battery life. Based on the model you purchase, it can range upto 45-60 min. So if you do heavy duty cleaning all in one shot - let's say for example for a few hours once or twice a month, then go for a corded vacuum cleaner as you need to keep the machine on for longer. However, if you do regular cleaning - a few times a week - then a cordless vacuum is sufficient as the battery can last upto 45 - 60 min.
Suction power - cordless vacuums will have lower suction power than corded vacuums. But the suction power on high end cordless vacuums these days is getting much better. If you have lot of carpeted area or have pet fur on your furnishing - then you should go with a corded vacuum as it requires a higher suction power.
Flexibility - cordless vacuums are easier to carry around so when you suddenly feel like cleaning, you can just take the vacuum and go to town. In the case of corded, it is more cumbersome as you have to find a power point wherever you go and the cord may not be long enough - so you may need an extension cord. So it becomes difficult to clean your car or stairs with a corded vacuum.
Carrying Weight - A cordless vacuum will be heavier to carry as the bin as well as the motor is in your hand. Weight can be anywhere between 2-4 kgs based on the model. A corded vacuum will be lighter as the machine and bin will be on the floor.
Bin size - A cordless vacuum generally will have a smaller bin - of upto 600 ml - so ideal for frequent small cleans. Compared to that a corded vacuum will have a larger bin - almost 2-3L - ideal for infrequent longer cleans.
Bin type - A cordless vacuum in general will have a washable bin. A corded one can have either a washable bin or a bag. I find the bag more cumbersome - so would prefer one that has a washable bin.
Attachments - this depends on the models and budgets. But in general a floor and upholstery attachment is present, the rest are available based on models you purchase.
Price - a cordless vacuum is more expensive than a corded vacuum cleaner. For a similar suction power - a corded vacuum is available at less than 5k and a cordless vacuum would be available for over 10-15k.
Storage - cordless vacuums are easier to store. You may get a handy wall or floor mount for the vacuum cleaner. Yes, storing the accessories can still be a pain. Corded vacuums are more difficult to store as they are bulky and unwieldy.
So now that we have spoken about the specifications, when is which one useful:
For Carpets, pets - if your home has lot of carpeted area or you have pets at home, a corded vacuum may be better for your usecase as it has better suction power and longer lasting than the battery in a cordless vacuum.
For regular cleaning - if you are someone who picks up your vacuum cleaner a few times a week to clean odd dust that you see in your house - a cordless vacuum is ideal for you. A corded vacuum can be fairly cumbersome in this case.
For deep cleaning - if you like to do deep cleaning of your house one to two times a month - then a corded vacuum cleaner is ideal for you as it can last a lot longer compared to upto 45 minutes of a cordless vacuum and has a much bigger bin size so no need to empty often.
For small to medium sized homes - for homes upto 2000 sq ft, a cordless vacuum may be ideal for regular cleaning. For larger homes that require more coverage, a corded vacuum would be ideal.
