You forgot to mention that the without teeth the jaw bones will resorb and shrink. Get dentures early enough in life by the time your old and gray you will have no bone ridge left to hold dentures in place! Once bone is gone its gone for good.

That's partially why implants are a thing. But you still want to get onto it, otherwise you'll potentially need a bone transplant, which takes a good while to fully attach/heal before the implant can be done.

Let's not forget people with dentures often suffer digestive issues due to difficulty with mastication and diet changes. Alot of reasons to keep real teeth ❤ Also the newest implant retained dentures which can help tremendously are extremely expensive $$$

Best thing you can do is go to the dentist, get your cavities sorted and then ask your dentist for for the best way to maintain good dental health. Don't let it get too late.

My dentist is always pushing dentures for my wife. We have spent good money trying to save her real teeth. Your videos have help so much thank you!

Like I said in the video, dentures are important for those who need them. It's better to have dentures than to be toothless. This video was just to deter those away from them who think they are "easier" than real teeth and to still focus on preventing the need for them, if possible. However, if someone is past the prevention stage -- like how you said your dentist is pushing them, oftentimes that's because there's no other options. You're in good hands when discussing with your individual dentist. Hope this helps!

My grandpa lost his teeth pretty young (40s~50s) and for some reason never wore dentures, I guess his gums toughened up and he just got used to eating toothless (but I think he sometimes would have a paper towel nearby to spit out some things he couldn't chew well lol)

Plus at some point you really ideally want to get those dentures implanted (easier, nicer, stops bone loss that makes it impossible to keep wearing dentures), which requires metal rods being screwed into the bone. If there's not enough bone because it was left too long, there first needs to be a bone transplant, which takes a long time to fully attach/heal up for the implants. Then there's the different materials for implanted dentures, and the better ones are quite expensive. Still need to do the home care, and also going to the dentist where they unscrew the denture from the implanted screws, so they can properly clean in there. It's a lot. That's also after all the relines and stuff at the start where they change the shape of it a few times because the swelling is going down over time (due to the teeth being removed) and other changes, like the bone not being stimulated, so it slowly goes away. Then a whole new denture is required after the swelling goes down, because a reline isn't enough to make the same denture still work. Then yea the hot spots, something needs sanding down. Dropping it and chipping something which is then razor sharp. You should also never sleep with a denture in (which can be a big struggle for many people), because it'll dry out and also it's more wear on the gums, which you really want to last a long time so as the denture can continue to be worn securely. The social anxieties about if people can notice (they don't). Then there's the different price ranges for realism... some dentures have a higher level of craftsmanship, and some are designed to look more natural with irregularities and stuff like teeth usually have, instead of being perfect. Something to factor in there is people who have a big smile where the top lip goes really high, it can then cease to cover the top of the denture, so it's something to know there. For people with decent dentures, an interesting element is that they can often be stopped and complemented on how amazing their teeth look and what they do for them, which is a social situation to navigate however one chooses to. My long-time ex had very basic dentures from her early 20s, and I forgot she even had dentures 99% of the time. I just never gave a shit. I'd just be reminded when we would brush our teeth together (or sometimes I'd brush her teeth if she was too lazy), and, during one other activity.

Love your channel and advice. Btw I go to the dentist weekly at age 36 because I have got so much pain in a lot of my teeth. Not kidding but all the root canals and crowns I've had put on I probably have spent $15,000-20,000 and counting and that's with my dental insurance. I got one pulled awhile back and regret it despite it being in the back where you can't really see it. I, was going to get a dental implant but I need so much other work done on my teeth constantly...I brush, floss twice-three times a day, daily and I use mouthwash. My grandparents and father all had dentures by age 50 if not younger. Hopefully this isn't anything genetically. Any other recommendations? I don't eat candy anymore... Thank you.

My dad got dentures the year I was born, he was only 39/40 at the time. I can't believe he found a dentist that was actually willing to do that 😂 He kept that same set up for about 25 years and then got a new set.

Most tragic thing is seeing young people (orphans alike) leave their family before they have developed and are chowing down on gas station bars. These young people work very hard & have little to catch themselves. Only reaching for that ruby in the pantry when they’ve already chipped their teeth. Tragic af Trust me I’m a dentist
