Bit of a note about 2:20, they didn't just notify the entire company. Epic Games has a group you sign up for to get source code access to Unreal Engine. The person in question notified that group, sending a company-wide email to *every gamedev company in the world* (that uses Unreal Engine with the source build instead of the Epic Games Launcher version). "long" used to be the longest possible int type, until 64 bit CPUs when they needed to subdivide int types more. "long long" sounds dumb, but it was named that way so they didn't have to add a new keyword, because every time you add a new keyword, you break any program that was using that keyword as a variable name.

I was going to say CSS pixels aren't even an absolute unit because they don't correspond to actual screen pixels, and how many screen pixels correspond to a CSS pixel depends on the screen. However, a CSS pixel does correspond to a real world unit of measurement so I guess it is absolute, it's only a different unit of measurement that is completely unrelated to screen pixels. For the curious, the size of a CSS pixel is the visual angle of 1/96th of an inch at an arm's length (28 inches) away from the observer's eye. That is, on a screen that typically sits an arm's length away from you, a CSS pixel is exactly 1/96th of an inch, but on a screen that you hold closer to your face, it's going to be smaller than that, and on a screen that you typically view from far away it's going to be bigger, so it always has the same visual angle.
@theodorealenas3171
8 ай бұрын
I would never think of looking that up. I never assumed that could be the case. Can 1px be less than 1px, meaning zero?
@QuotePilgrim
8 ай бұрын
@@theodorealenas3171 I don't think so. Apparently the size of a CSS pixel is related to something called DPR, or device pixel ratio, and it would require a screen with a higher logical pixel density than its physical pixel density for that number to be below 1, and I don't believe such a screen exists. That said, depending on how the rendering works, it could be that if a CSS pixel is calculated to be a lot smaller than a screen pixel for some reason, things like a 1px border won't render at all. This should be pretty easy to test if you can change what CSS thinks your screen's DPR is. I'll try that as soon as I'm able to, if I remember. Also, I didn't look that up either but I took a CSS course in the past where this detail happened to be mentioned and now it's a weird piece of trivia that stuck with me.

The "unhinged people" ones seem to be from _users_ of the software, who aren't devs themselves and think of the issue tracker as a public complaints page.
