I live right in a big city and do not own a car. I don't own an e-bike, but instead an electric scooter. It is AWESOME and the only thing I need. I use it to commute to work, run errands, go shopping, etc. But it's better than an e-bike because it's way more portable, less heavy, and just less hassle. It works for me because everywhere I need or would want to go is within a 2-7 mile radius so battery is never an issue, and although top speed is only 17mph, you don't need more in a city. The amount of money I save by not having a car is insane.

yeah that sounds super fun, and just low effort (in a good way). no insurance/tax/payments/maintenance/gas station stops would be crazy. though i'm still so confused how errands and stuff work lol. like even, say, a pack of paper towels or a case of soda. do you just buy super small quantities of stuff?
@Seabas-r8z
8 күн бұрын
@GoHerping Yeah dude, even parking where I live can easily go for $24 an hour and parking tickets $150 a pop, and it is almost imposible to walk down a street and not see a car with one on the windshield. Just a U lock and I'm good to park almost anywhere and waste 0 minutes trying to find parking! As for errands, I have a really big Swiss Gear backpack where I can fit almost anything in relatively small quantities. I live on my own so I don't buy/need a ton of stuff. Paper towels I buy one or two rolls at a time from the dollar store and just ride less than 2 minutes to it whenever in need. Toilet paper the same dollar store sells a pack of 4 so I buy 2 packs at a time and can easily carry those in my backpack. They last me over a month so that less than two minute ride doesn't even happen that often lol Groceries I buy 1 or 2 weeks worth, and between the backpack on two grocery bags I can easily carry it on the scooter. The supermarkets is also a 4 minute ride so, again, super convenient and zero hassle and I can go in whenever I feel like it because it's so easy and quick to get to.

Wow imagine having a little mini "trailer" type deal you could rig up to the scooter haha that sounds epic. There's an ancient electric scooter somewhere in my family's garage that I'll have to see about later... 😂
@Seabas-r8z
6 күн бұрын
@ZebrasAreAwesome011 Oh you could totally get away with that, it would just limit your range and where you can bring it in. I like the portability of it as I bring it with me everywhere and no one questions it. If I'm not gonna take more than 10 minutes, I'll bring the scooter with me inside whatever store/building I'm going into instead of locking it outside. Can't express enough how much I love the convenience and utility this little things provides me and how it 100% negates the need for a car!

Oh also to explain the battery percentage jumping around - battery % left is calculated on the battery's voltage. Ebikes and other electronic devices powered by a battery experience what's called "voltage sag" where under high loads of use the voltage drops to a level that doesn't reflect the actual capacity remaining. The % remaining jumped back up when you stopped since it wasn't under load, and could accurately read the voltage of the battery pack!

FYI, seat (they are called saddles on bikes) fitment on bikes is something you can measure and purchase for. Your sit bones have varying differences based on your biometrics. If you sit on a piece of cardboard in a low/squatting position, you can see where your sit bones indent on the cardboard and measure the distance center to center. My sit bones are 130mm apart, so I chose a 160mm wide saddle. There are also some saddles that have a center cutout. Also, generally it is expected with a saddle that you use a chamois in some cycling shorts. This is preferable to a very cushy/padded saddle, because the chamois is the padding, and it moves with your body rather than your body moving over the padding if it's built into the seat. Better for longer rides.

About a year ago I got the wildeway ebike. 800 bucks for a new 48v 32ah 750 watt ebike. Probably one of the best purchases I've made for the price as I use it to commute to work so so far I've taken it over 1500 miles.

if you're interested in ebikes but not in companies sending you there's, you could try to build your own! It's not as complicated as it sounds and if you have bikes you like already you can upgrade them :)

That's what I did with my very first E-bike. I ended up wiring the motor to go much faster than how it came. hehe that was soo much fun. Ended up upgrading to the Aventon fat tire ebike and that has been my newest obsession. For the price you can't beat the conversion kits though.

3:30 I'm not sure what American laws are like regarding battery standards, so that might apply in the USA. The consumer advice in the UK is that if you get an ebike make sure you're not getting the cheapest possible one. The really cheep ones on Amazon are cheep because they're cutting corners. If you pay a bit more to buy from a more reputable brand, yes it's made in China, but it's made to a higher safety standard. If the battery is built properly, it shouldn't explode. 19:10 you just got to it: while a lot of the parts are the same, the batteries are all different, and it's the battery which is a fire risk if it hasn't been made properly

I got my mountain bike style e-Bike for $200 at a pawn shop. Only thing wrong with it at the time of purchase is I don't have the key to remove the battery pack from the chassis. Still charges to about 16 miles of travel purely on battery over a year later from when I bought it. Not sure how much older than that it is, but definitely feel like I got lucky.

I work at a grocery store and there are about 6 employees who ride ebikes/escooters to work. They all have disabilities that likely prevent them from getting a drivers license. 3 of them probably could get licensed though and I suspect that those 3 chose to use their ebikes because of the cost. It is a great tool for independence.

The e bikes are pretty messed up just like the electric longboard/skateboard market. Some dude in China will buy a stolen design. Pay a company to make it. Sell it without testing. Then just buy better smaller part as the item breaks in massive amounts. One time my longboard has a spacer issue that randomly cause the wheel to come off and wobble. Nobody knew until people just ate shit. Then the company owner sent Teflon tape, bearings, and spacers that were filed down a bit. Then when people wanted knew tires in full to make sure they don't die, the owner told them to send back the original tires including the issue. Why? Probably to fix them cheaply and resell them.

Me here with a Crescent E-bike with a central motor for like.. 2500 bucks. 😂 Never had a problem with it for years though. And I get more exercise from it than a back/front motor which does the work for you. Boiii it was expensive but I still enjoy it. It is lovely to commute to work when the weather is nice.

I had a Vitilan and I can confidently say that they’re a waste of money. After four months of owning one the “durable” tires popped and after getting it fixed it popped again after a couple months. The brakes wear out after a short amount of time even if you are gentle with them and the seat gets wobbly out of nowhere. I ended up selling it like five hundred bucks less than what I originally bought it for because I was sick of it falling apart on me after only one year.

The Lamborghini v. Slow car thing is shrimply wrong. Many fast cars are designed to go fast, so at low speeds they feel terrible because they have stiff suspension and are not geared to be efficient or drive well at low speeds (not to mention most of them are manuals). Meanwhile slow cars have the potential to feel comfortable at higher speeds due to body shape or suspension design. Plus they’re also designed to last a lot longer driving at lower speeds without constant maintenance like a Lamborghini.

So gasoline cars explode all the time? 🤔 What? Well at least gas are better for the environment than e-vehicles.
@Gemna157
9 күн бұрын
There are about 1500 fires for gasoline ICE vehicles per 100k sold, for EVs the number is about 25. Gas cars are many, many times more likely to catch fire the only issue with ice cars is that if the batteries do catch fire they are harder to put out. And burn very hot. Judging by your environment comment though I assume your a troll or just not interested in reality.
