Your knowledge and thought process to look at the entire picture is truly amazing and rare. Too bad our world leaders do not know as much or see the "total picture" as you do. Long live Scotty! Thanks for another great video.

I work at a gas and fuel oil facility Scottie, everything you said is 100% right. Here in NY they are putting in Solar wind farms and I believe they are going to try and create that e-fuel but no one has said anything about it yet. We sold b20 for a while but then it went away most likely because of all the problems you said, but they are bringing it back, they are making the bio fuel better from what I hear 🤷♂️. Keep us updated though!

My gas truck I use 100% gasoline instead of 90% gas 10% ethanol. By doing so, I get 35 to 45% better gas mileage.

One of the groups doing research on e-fuels is the US Navy. They want to be able to synthesize jet fuel at sea on the nuclear powered aircraft carriers because the cost differential is much higher in dollars and human lives when you have to transport fuel by ship into a conflict zone, I think shipboard it's something like $500 a gallon and on land it's worse. Something like a thousand to deliver a gallon of fuel to something like a front line army camp. There's also an efficiency gain with the nuclear option, because there's a chemical thermal process for fractioning water into hydrogen and oxygen that you can do with direct heat from a reactor, as opposed to boiling water to make electricity to do electrolysis. You can get a lot more hydrogen out of the same size nuclear reactor if you use the thermal process.

I read a car magazine article comparing fuel consumption in cars with regular gasoline/petrol to that of E85, a European petrol grade which has 15% bio éthanol mixed in. The fuel consumption was about 10% higher with the E85... So you can cut the carbon emissions savings by around 70%. It gets worse. Bio ethanol requires about the same energy to produce as you get out, so E85 will actually increase your CO2 emissions by around 10%.

How about those people who claim to have made engines that work with water, or other types of combustibles... I know, people’s first reaction will be, but where are those engines if they can really work... But it is not a reason to discard the possibility that alternative engines exist... investigating that would be great scott IMO.

Incredible famines are coming globally, the last thing we need is turning the little food into damn fuel. Also it's time to seriously rethink farming because by now everybody who isn't deliberately in "everything is JUST fine the way it is" mode knows this way, all capable of growing anything type of soil will be gone within decades. For ever. This endless fields of grains all over thing is a dead end, and will be quite literally for all of us soon if nothing changes.

e-fuel is crap wasting energy especially the Porsche idea to generate power in the atacama desert to ship it across the atlantic. That desert has high constant wind speeds and no one that can complain too much, but the energy should be shipped to porsche customers, the europeans most likely. Crap cause you loose 8 times the energy on the whole way cause at the end you have no efficiency if you have an ICE car running. Usefull only were you have no alternative like plane and maybe ships but not for porsche cars. Another mess of the new VW CEO aka Porsche CEO.

Well, on the other hand, you CAN create a huge wind/solar farm in the desert and then ship over fuel and use infrastructure that already exists. Replacing all combustion engine vehicles with electric ones is simply not going to happen unless you massively invest in the power grid AND massively increase your electricity production. So either it is, use fossil fuels, use e-fuels or don't own a car and be happy.

Even if you solve the fuel puzzle - there comes the fact, that meat and dairy farming emits more greenhouse gas than all the transportation types combined. But that is being completely ignored by all "eco-activists" (probably because of the conflicts in sponsorship). Therefore, theoretically, if humanity starts saving the environment by eating soy instead of meat - you will have all kinds of plant bio fuel material to go around, because we now feed it all to cows (and all humans eat much less than even part of all the cows combined). But it's more than optimistic to think, that somebody is going to recognize this problem willingly, let alone act on this main pollutant source, which is our stomach. Or, more precisely - the food we are trained to eat.

We definitely need to revamp of the food system to be sure but there's room for some animal agriculture in a sustainable world. Right now we're feeding cows with food crops that humans can eat which is bad. Cows are evolved to eat grass which humans can't eat. So a more limited form of pastoral cattle raising that doesn't consume food that's rival with human food is called for. Those pastoral cows are also providing the labor of harvesting their own food. They just walk around eating grass. Meanwhile, harvesting soybeans requires human, animal or mechanized labor, and that mechanized part runs on diesel fuel. There's also a couple of meat sources that you can eat as much as you want and actually benefit the environment. Right now there's a massive glut of invasive freshwater carp and the common whitetail deer, they're rampaging through various ecosystems, their natural predators cannot kill them fast enough. The world in which there were double McVenisons on the menu would be a good one for the forest ecosystem, but unfortunately wild hunting of deer is not going to compete economically with concentrated animal feeding operations so they're not going to be selling that for a dollar anytime soon.

@@AlRoderick that's a valid point. If I remember right - we consume under 1% of edible plants because the rest is not as commercially viable. But it goes further - meat you hunt or fish you catch by yourself (or even as a company) cannot be sold in supermarkets nor used in restaurants. There are many artificial restraints put on beneficial actions just in the sake of the mighty buck. This finance-centrism (also called capitalism) is probably the main reason for ecological as well as many other problems. I hope this can be recognized and the existing system will be allowed to evolve into something better for the environment, and by proxy, for us. Those who have the power to do so need to keep in mind, that although humans are called the crown of creation, the head it rests on (the environment) can shake us all off if we're too much of burden.
