I’ve had various cholesterol readings over the years. Started monitoring it at 19 years old because of family history. My cholesterol has been as low as 179, as high as 275. The eggs never played a part in my cholesterol levels (if that even matters), but my fiber content made all the difference. When I eat a diet with tons of veggies, my cholesterol is fantastic, when I eat a bunch of processed carbs, devoid of fiber, my cholesterol shoots up. Just what I’ve noticed in monitoring my cholesterol for nearly 10 years now.

I ate 8 eggs/day during my high-intensity exercise phase. At the same time, I was having monthly blood tests for a medication I was taking. And I continued the blood tests for the next 1.5 years, after going back to 0-2 eggs/day. My cholesterol was within normal range on every blood test. So were my liver enzymes, and so were the basic values RBC WBC hemoglobin etc. Eggs are not the problem. What is your lifestyle? Are you frying the eggs, and in which oil? What else are you consuming? These are the same questions that make any studies on food consumption in human cohorts correlational at best. Thank you Dr. Berry. My wife saw this short report(blurb really) on the Nightly News this week and immediately looked over at me. She is on the fence with Keto and her very nice and well meaning, but quite overweight doctor, continues to preach to her the typical American diet, and prescribe more pills to help her with her weight and medical issues. I have not been able to convince her otherwise so far, and worry about her health daily. I have lost 100 lbs. on a fairly low carb diet in the past year(before I really new about Keto), but I switched to Keto in January of this year to maintain my weight loss and stop the carb/sugar cravings. And of course, I eat several eggs a day on the Keto diet. I told her Dr. Berry will have a response to this report shortly, and we will hear what is really going on. You did not disappoint. It is really hard to combat what our doctors and the media keep telling us, without regard to new studies and proof coming out daily. Not to mention anecdotal proof which is everywhere due to the popularity of the Keto diet and other healthy eating plans. Thanks again for all your work and sharing your knowledge in a way that we laymen can understand.

I suppose your education is higher than that of the people who did that study and you did studies finding otherwise. Why don't you publish them? Even though the vote of someone with an IQ of 70 is equal to the vote of someone with an IQ of 140 the same is not true for opinions.

@@grasonicusThe issue is speculative conclusions for monetary motives. It is just like how cholesterol linked to atherosclerosis based on half baked understanding or how diabetes falsely concluded as a chronic and progressive disease or how high blood pressure assumed to be only treated with drugs. Diabetic, cholesterol and blood pressure drugs are cash cows for pharma industries. War on eggs is waged by anti-keto sugar/food industry

Back in the late 1980s, I spoke with a farmer who raised chickens and said he ate between 5-7 eggs a day with his bacon or sausage. He was almost 90 and said he'd done that his entire life. I decided then and there that I'd always eat my eggs and ignore the hype.

The real question is why are we even alive to this day? Who ever said saturated fats are bad, they don't know. Eggs, butter was once demonize but as it turns out, it's healthy and we ate them a long time ago. Lol, big pharma is going to lose it.

I have been trying to bring down the inflammation responsible for my subclinical Graves disease and have been suggested, by a naturopathic physician, to stop both dairy consumption (due to my response to casein) and egg consumption (due to my inflammatory response to the proteins in both the white and the yellow of eggs. I have to admit that I miss both eggs and cheese as I attempt to make the keto diet part of my life. What do you think Dr. Berry? By the way, I'm a medical physiologist (PhD) and have been really loving your videos! Your reasoning really resonates with me!

Thanks Dr. Berry, I will continue my breakfasts of bacon and eggs. I still in amazement that that’s the healthier choice than my childhood - 20’s breakfasts of Cereal, pop tarts, muffins or cream of wheat - that’s what I was always told to to eat. Bacon and Eggs were a treat my grandpa cooked for me, but I was told not to eat that often when I got back home.

I have a vegan friend and she blogs and posts videos from Doctors that trash low carb and carnivore diets and have all this research they study to back it up. Not even possible to beat that bad info out of them and they probably think the same about us. In the end, having tried a low fat diet, a vegan once for about a year and a carbivore (ate way too much carbage) for a good chunk of my life before I found keto and IF it is safe to say my experience should be a good barometer of how these different ways of eating affect my body. I feel a 1000 times better eating keto compared to the others and found it the easiest least expensive way to eat. As a nurse I've seen my fair share of very sick vegetarians, vegans, and followers of the SAD, ADA, and AHA diets. Only one had a patient that was low carb and she fasted most of her stay because they were trying to shove the SAD diet on her. We have to keep fighting because this battle is just getting started!

@veracity v that's interesting because I have had all those tests both when I was eating a plant based diet and then with a ketogenic diet and the latter was more improved. Another thing is that I have a lovely garden and egg layers. I'm eat healthier on a more budget friendly easier to prepare and manage diet then plant based, besides I really hate tofu.

I follow Keto rules “loosely” and still for the first time in my life my triglycerides are normal. Always had them high due to heredity. Even when following the diabetic/heart association protocols. Stopped taking their advice and ate more saturated fats and less than 50 carbs a day. Lost weight too, that was a bonus.

These are all very great points! It's amazing what sensationalism will do and it's unfortunate how much it can actually cause confusion from something as simple as clickbait headlines and weak studies. Seems like we just always have to find a way to point the blame on one single thing when it's generally the sum of our poor decision making as a whole when it comes to healthy lifestyle choices.

Dr. Berry, you are completely correct. These "studies" are not worth the paper on which they appear and they had me going back and forth with no benefit. Plus, did not a recent patient study find that triglycerides are a production of the liver by consumption of CARBOHYDRATES, not dietary cholesterol?

I can tell you my mother sold eggs when I was a teenager. I didn't eat breakfast or lunch at school and as soon as I got off the bus I would eat either 5 double yolks or 6 regular extra large eggs and a half a loaf of bread. I don't eat near as many these days but I love them and I am 63...so I may fall over any time but as many eggs as I have eaten over my life span...it would be hard for me to blame the eggs and my cholesterol has always been good...not only good but a little on the low side on the good and bad cholesterol.

Reptiles also laid eggs and so do some fishes- the egg preceded the chickens. JAMA did a prospective cohort study using OLD data - after AMA declared in 2018 that "cholesterol was no longer a criteria of concern". Associations only. Food Frequency Questionnaires were used - annually. Who remembers ???
