Eucalyptus trees suck up alot of water and makes the soil less nutrituous and hence it does not allow other plants to grow near it.

sir i think anybody who is planting they should be carefull because one type of tree will destroy diversity... for greening people as you said should focus on mainly native trees as support pioneer species and then as addition to those you can add exotic varieties... and that too grown from seed that is harvested from another tree growin in indian climate because the tree will produce seeds favoring the particular climate it is in.

No sir , agroforestry do nothing good for environment, because when the wood is used to make matchstick and fire wood it burns and again contribute to co2 emission. All the carbon stored will be released again which was absorbed by tree. And in case it is made paper , then I can understand !

it is good because instead of cutting forest for wood you take the wood from farms and the farmer gets money . this is what sadhguru is trying to do for cauvery calling project . you cant nullify co2 emmisions but can protect your forests

eucalyptus leaves are toxic and also degrades soil fertility.

But these trees are very bad as they consume a large amount of water and these are grown in swamps not in drought prone regions like our north india where there is very less groundwater left

Not a good idea ! There are amples amount of research showing how eucalyptus drains ground water and prevents rains . Rather the tree should be banned in view of fallinh ground water

Hi! Those researches are for eucalyptus monoculture farms grown industrially for wood on a large scale 🙂 any monoculture is bad and has devastating impacts on ecosystems and the water cycle. But a few eucalyptus trees incorporated into plantations and systems are perfectly fine, and can contribute to creating windbreaks, soil biology and fertility needed for other tree species to grow too. Also eucalyptus trees themselves don’t reduce ground water as their roots only go a few feet deep, but it’s the unsustainable usage of groundwater in farms and cities without allowing it to replenish during the abundant rainy seasons we have in this country that cause the depletion
