Japanese guitars, not just Ibbys, are usually extremely well build and these Genesis models are build by the Fujigen factory, so you can buy them basically blind. I used to have a RG1570 Prestige Fujigen which was build like a tank, absolute workhorse guitar. I'm biting myself in the ass for letting that go. A friend has an ESP Standard Series Horizon-II FR with the Duncans & the quilt maple top, one of the last models before the idiots at ESP decided to re-brand the Standard Series as ''E-II'' and that is honestly one of the best guitars I've ever played. The Japanese really know how to build them, sadly the prices for MIJ guitars have gone so up, it's not even funny anymore. These Genesis models are amazing value for money, I'm hoping they will eventually make a reissue of the RG570 which was the predecessor to the RG1570 in the near future, otherwise I would have bought a Genesis RG550 already. Oh and about the pickups: the V8/V7 stock pickups are not that bad, if you have a decent amp. Specially compared to the newer Ibanez stock pickups, man those really sound meh. The V8/V7 design is based on Dimarzio's Tone Zone/ Air Norton according to a rumour, not sure about the twin rails neck pickup though.

I have 3 Ibanez Prestige RGs and two Genesis Collection RGs (550 and 565), and they are all incredibly good. Made in Japan Ibanez guitars are simply amazingly high quality, and usually sheer perfection. I would not have accepted one with a neck pocket crack however, as these are way less prone to it than the originals, as the neck goes much deeper into the body. I like my guitars to be pristine. The Genesis Colection Ibanez guitars offer the best bang for the buck imo. Beautifully shot video btw.. Nice job.

Back in 94 I had an order in at a guitar shop in Manchester for an RG550. Kept going in and calling to see when it would arrive and kept getting strung along by the sales bloke. Ultimately I went in to kick off a little to be told the sales guy had been fired, and had been messing folk around with orders on a massive scale. The Manager was apologetic, offered to make the situation right and returned 5 minutes later to say he could get me a secondhand Jem by the following week for the same price as the RG. Agreed on the spot, picked it up unseen on what happened to be my 21st birthday and have been the proud owner of an ‘89 777VDY ever since.

Goddamn that guitar looks amazing!!! price ain't bad at all. Also fun facts, The Ibanez RG line is actually modeled after Steve Vai's JEM because those were his specs he requested when he wanted a signature guitar. IBANEZ produced a prototype since they wanted to make a deal with him. It was named the JEM was named because that was his friend's guitar shop "JEM guitar builders" (or something to that effect. And Steve loved it and signed with IBANEZ. The RG line was made as a model to Vai's JEM. so in a sense, the RG is the JEM shape without the whole cut into it.

I have j custom RG1880 made in Japan in 2000, bought it used for less than a thousand bucks few years ago on a Japanese online auction. The condition was a little beat up so I swapped pickups and potentiometers, changed frets to Evo gold and tremolo to gotoh 1996t. I don't know about Genesis collection, but in comparison with the serial old Japanese RG550, J custom is better in every aspect especially when it comes to the wood resonance, richer overtones and sustained sound. It is also clear that everything fits together much better, no gaps or cracks. Better finish and polish. It's like a higher class guitar, feels a bit like boutique brands like Suhr and stuff like that. I have a video on my channel with this particulat guitar. Best wishes.

The arm is rock solid and has no play and it flutters like you have never felt or heard ! And the NECK !!!! It’s a dream as I have small hands and fingers so this thing rips for me ! Sure the AANJ would have been great but the tilted neck pocket isn’t a issue ! I’ve heard some people complain about fret sprout but mine 2 have been fine ! They're great looking guitars, I especially like the Orange one. Though I don't see myself owning this anytime soon, or ever, due to how thin the neck is (my RG's Wizard III are a wee bit thicker and even that gets uncomfortable after awhile). I haven't had the chance to try them yet, but who knows, I might just change my mind after I do. Yeah, I agree with your sentiment of people buying Prestige and J.Customs, I would play the heck out of a quality instrument, if I could afford one. My first "serious" guitar was a Prestige RG655GK from 2015. Phenomenal HSH shred machine with the all access neck heel. Still haven't played a better playing or more well made guitar. Recently the output jack died, so I played my last two gigs with my friends HSS Prestige Pro Line PL2550 from 1986. Also super well made 80s shred machine and plays great. Extremely rare guitar and has a 24.74" scale length, neck through design and special pickup preset selector buttons. Kinda weird, and not easy to switch on the fly, but actually useful. Although noone bought it and the entire product line was discontinued after 2 years.

You don't need a middle pickup in a 24 fret guitar IMO, it is never gonna sound like a vintage Strat any day anyhow and it is in the way. The rail pickup makes sense in this setup, being a hotter fatter type sound. There are tricks you can do to scoop some of the mids if it is too much. Had a 560 back in the day, I converted it to HS with a custom added pickguard. I'd love to see this model with a non-reversed black headstock, rosewood board, maple cap body in metallic red 😉

I’m in the same camp as you dude, fully agree! Oh sweet, that sounds like a beast. And you should put that idea forward to Ibanez, I’d buy one in a heartbeat! Thanks for watching and commenting mate, I appreciate it tons 🤘

For prestige you get: case + prestige logo + better pickups (usually dimarzio, but nowadays Fishman fluence..meh) and the “Access neck joint”. Quality is not different from these Genesis lines. For example..i found that on maple fretboards even those prestiges lack sometimes in roundness of the fret ends. But you pat extra fro the Prestige logo definitely. Quality is on par with them for these Genesis guitars. Honestly I prefer the old school neck joint and I am happy that with the Genesis collection they have the neck the same lenght as the fretboard, so no fretboard warping issues over time at the 20-24 frets. I had 2 prestige guitars, sold them (i regret it, and unfortunately they are not reselling them back to me), and wanted to buy some current line Prestige models. Don’t like them just because of the Fishman pickups…and lack of diversity in models. This is the reason I bought an RG550 in purple and will buy another RG565 either in Teal/Emerald Green or that blue that is available…swap the pickups to some dimarzio medium output for dynamics and bam! It’s done. Glad to see you are enjoying the guitar! Ibanez rules!

i have an AZ prestige, great guitar, you could argue its a bit ugly boring or understated looking, also if you like using the trem, good luck in keeping that g string in tune

Nice review!!! The 5 piece neck is not an upgrade. Cheap raw wood needs 3 or 5 layers to stay somehow stable. Back in the 80's manufacturers used better quality wood.

Thanks for the information dude! I'm expecting the quality of the materials going into Fujigen to be just as good as they were in the 80's but I suppose that might be wrong! Though I'd still expect a 3 or 5 piece neck to be more stable? I'm gonna look into it further! Thanks for checking out the video mate 🤘

@@JackTaylorGuitars Actually I am married with the RG since 1990. So my enthusiasm is on solid ground. I think you did a fair job reviewing it. Unlike other youtubers you hit the point. No guitar is perfect and even I admit, the Gs sound fatter and the Fs have better cleans than the RG. But there are lots of strenghts that make up for. Last thing: Ibanez stock pickups are placeholders - following the philosophy that people don't have to pay for the wrong pickups.

Same here, I have my first REAL guitar still in my possession the Ibanez RG 570 (JB) with rosewood neck; then I got the Ibanez RG 470 DX (white with shark inlays on neck) in late 90’s, and purchased my favorite in 20’ the Ibanez RG “Genesis” 550 (NP) with maple neck and finally in early 24’ I bought my Fender Player Series Strat (Black with single coil pickups & maple neck) to get “That” Fender tone I have always Loved from Eric Clapton, SRV, David Gilmour, Joe Perry, John Frusainte, & Billy Corgan!#Ibanez#RG❤#Fender#🎸🔥🤘🏻@iloveitall
