It is evident from observing these videos that Ashkenazi Jews from Europe receive significantly more attention and more exposure compared to Mizrahi Jews from the Middle East. It is unfortunate that the descendants of the Jews who settled in the Middle East, who are geographically closer to the Promised Land, do not receive the attention they rightfully deserve. hope next vids they post more length vids on Mizrahi Jews.

Very interesting. I'll be 70 next January and one the most impactful moments in my youth was 1968, Born Catholic in Europe, mother a Hungarian refugee, father a WWII American war correspondent who was an expert in the Middle East. That year, he was on assignment to cover the then new reforestation program in Israel. He had custody during the summer, so he would take me along. We went to Israel, then through Cyprus to Lebanon and Egypt. It was a year after the 67 war, so pretty tense. There were still blown up Jordanian tanks on the side of the road to the Dead Sea. I was impressed with the spirit of the Israelis (even visited a kibbutz), was enchanted with Lebanon - this was before the civil war and Egypt was under Nasser at the time, so the only movies in Cairo at the time were essentially Russian military propaganda movies. We were in the then almost empty Cairo Hilton right off of Tahir Square when the news of the Russian invasion of Czechoslovakia came through on my dad's transistor radio as we watched the sun rise over the Nile... What that summer taught me - even though I was only 13 at the time -- was that there were human beings on both sides of the historic divide. The Lebanese shopkeepers in the backwoods. the nomadic tribes camped at the Cedars of Lebanon, etc. were no different than those in the Kibbutz. And to bring it back to Jewish history... My father forced me to read the relatively new "Exodus" book by Leon Uris on that trip. Not something I wanted to do, but he insisted on it to understand the history of the region. One point he made then was to understand that Jews were good at business and academia because it was literally portable. One can take away things, but not knowledge and wisdom. So I've had a life-long affection for that whole area and am still saddened how the misuse of religion and sociopolitical aims keep tearing it apart. I recall an Easter Day closing segment on the U.S. ABC with Peter Jennings who had been a bureau chief in the Middle East. Peter Jennings was a consummate professional who rarely let his feeling show, but there was a subtle hint of sadness as he signed of right before the segment, saying, "It speaks for itself." The ABC crew were waling back through the old Arab quarter just after sundown when one of the wooden doors opened and an old Arab strutted out yelling at everyone and no-one. Not verbatim for it was back in the 1990s, but he essentially was commenting about the whole Arab-Jewish conflicts for generations: "What are we doing to ourselves? All this fighting between us. Do you really think that when we come before God that He will take sides?" Then he turned around an strode back into his home and slammed the door shut. Personally I no longer relate to any organized religion - I'm one of those spiritual-non-religious types. But I always respect those who walk with compassion and integrity, whatever their faith, tradition or seeming lack thereof. Our elder Arab friend above spoke the truth in his own very human, truthful way. It belongs to no-one, and all of us.

I am a Jew of African descent. My Paternal ORAL history places our Origins in Ethiopia. However, Paternal DNA places our Origins in The Levant (Typically known as “Israel” today) then to Eastern Africa (Malawi Bantu and Kenyan Bantu) to Western Africa/Angola/Nigeria (Igbo) to Central America (Indigenous Yucatan Peninsula) to the United States (Indigenous North American Peoples). Because all of this is from my Father (and not my Mother), I made formal Return (Teshuvah) to comply with Halacha. FYI - I don’t believe the Igbo DNA trek from Nigeria to the Yucatán Peninsula was voluntary. Also - FOR ME: It’s not about being Jew-ish….For many in Diaspora….We didn’t get to attend services in Synagogues. For us it’s about the oral history about being descendants of Ya’akov, which is proven out via our DNA, coupled with the oral traditions (keeping Shabbat, etc) handed down thru all the generations that seals it for us. Deuteronomy 28:64 (NIV): "Then the Lord will scatter you among all nations, from one end of the earth to the other. There you will worship other gods-gods of wood and stone, which neither you nor your ancestors have known." This verse is part of a larger passage in Deuteronomy 28, which outlines the blessings for obedience and the curses for disobedience. The dispersion of the Israelites among the nations is one of the curses for turning away from God.

This biblical text refers to a very ancient period in the history of the Jewish people. That was the period of transition from paganism to monotheism among the Jews. But you apply these divine words to a much later period. And this is completely wrong. The reasons for the dispersion of Jews around the world were, firstly, the Roman conquest when the pagan Romans tried their best to eradicate Jewish monotheism, and secondly, the Arab conquer of Palestine between 634 and 640 AD. BTW, by justifying the conqueror's violence against the Jews by the will of God, you are stepping on a very slippery slope along which you will land straight into the arms of the hideous tyrant of the last century with his policies towards the Jews.

Now you are unhappy that they don't turn the other cheek but prefer to fight back? Israel should actually turn the other cheek, their rejection of their Messiah, the Prince of peace, and his words will get them into a lot of trouble - (see Isaiah 53 - proven to be a part of preserved scrolls of Isaiah which predated 100 BC). @@Meevious That's among the most idiotic arguments and jumping to conclusions I've encountered in a long time. While the kingdom of Israel has been destroyed, the land of Israel didn't vanish into thin air. It remained there, and a modern state named Israel was established on it in the 20th century. While I was born under the Israeli state, I was also born in the land of Israel. On a deeper level, I could also argue that as a Jewish person, there's a significant chance that I'm a descendant of people of that ancient Israelite kingdom, which would mean that I am further FROM Israel.
@Meevious

@@lforlight I guess you never read the Hebrew scripture, which would make it kind of hard to be Jewish. It says that all of the people of Israel were killed or taken into captivity in Assyria until this very day. Since the Assyrians don't keep Hebrew slaves anymore, it's safe to say that the Israelites are completely extinct. You are not descended from them. The chance is significantly zero. Moan all you like that it's just a religious book, not "real" history. It happens to be pretty much the only source for the existence of Israel in the first place. It also specifies that Israel will not exist until the coming of the Messiah, when all nations are joined as one in their pious worship of Him. Then, the skeletal corpses of the Israelites in the Valley of Megiddo will regrow their flesh and return to life to recreate Israel. That hasn't happened. There is no Israel. Just thieves trying to steal its name and imitate its sins. The "land of Israel" was a political boundary and ceased to exist when the Israelites could no longer defend it. It existed in the geographical region that was known as Palesheth in Hebrew, now rendered as Palestine in English. You may have been born in occupied Palestine, but Israel has not existed for thousands of years and is prohibited from existing by its own religion.

Several years ago I did a completely anonymous DNA test, sending it to one of the American laboratories. As a result, I learned that both branches of my ancestors began here in Israel over 2,000 years ago before passing through Iraq, Spain, Germany, Poland, England, Ukraine and Russia. This is the most real proof of our rights to this land, and almost every Jew can present such proof. By the way, if we do the same analysis for the Arab population, I’m afraid the result will greatly upset them.

Jews as an ethnicity. A genetic study published by the US National Academy of Science clearly shows that Jewish communities worldwide descended from a common Middle Eastern ancestral population. Researchers expressed surprise at the remarkable genetic uniformity they found among modern Jews, no matter where the diaspora has become dispensed around the world. Moreover, DNA tests have demonstrated substantially fewer inter-marridges in most of the various Jewish divisions over the last 3,000 years than in other populations. The findings lend support to traditional Jewish accounts accrediting their founding to exiled Israelite populations, and counters theories that many or even most of the world's Jewry were founded by entire gentile populations that adopted the Jewish faith, as in the notable case of the historic Khazars. No wonder genetics has long been able to extract DNA material from dead bodies and in that case from human remains taken from ancient Canaan Jewish burials and compare these findings with the genetic traits of modern Jews.

The most appropriate name for the ethnicity is Judean because there are many Jewish populations that are very far from primarily Judean in origin such as Ethiopian Jews, Yemenite Jews, Malabar Jews of Cochin (genetically distinct from Paradesi Jews from the same city), and Szekely Jews. The exception is Ethiopian Jews who were a judaizing christian sect (like many through history, from within the Roman Empire to the USA) and they don't have any historical Israelite ancestry and became jewish at the end of the 20th century through conversion. Doesn't mean they're not jewish now, but their genesis and origins is not genealogically/genetically linked to lmost of the Jewish population. I know there's a lot of white people who are or try to claim that they are of the Scandinavian decent or viking etc and they are white supremacists and hate the Jews and I would give anything to get rid of these types of people and their ignorant ridiculous ideology and not all of us who are white and come from these places in the world share these beliefs and ideologies. Anyone who claims that their race or religion or anything else makes them better and above others in the world is completely ignorant and wrong. It's our individual accomplishments and deeds and especially the way we treat others that makes us special but never superior to anyone else. We really need to start acting and thinking differently and learning to treat our fellow humans better. We are all different and we have different beliefs and cultures and all kinds of things but that shouldn't be a reason to fight against each other or go to war etc. It's a shame that we are still not there yet but hopefully some day we will..

How do you discuss Jewish origins without reference to DNA data? According to several studies by geneticists Ashkenazi and Sephardic Jews hail from the Zagros mountains of Iran and the Caucasus mountains. They migrated to Palestine circa 4,000 years ago and intermixed with the natives of the Palestine/Canaan region.

It is from the political and religious viewpoint of Jews. It ain't necessary so, as the song says. For Europeans, Jews are Ashkenazi and Sephardi, not those from Guyana, Iran, India, Ethiopia. I doubt the Romans made Jews leave whatever you call that place in the Levant. Similarly no one forced Ethiopians to convert, or Jews to move to China. I don't consider non White people to be true Jews just converted ones either way, the original people that lived in the Levant who decided that there is one God without any form are extinct and all the people claiming to be Jews are fakes, adoptees of certain beliefs and customs.
@yaudatmustafa1557

The explosion of Jews by the Romans is a bullshit. Some Jews left looking for better opportunities elsewhere and some stayed. The ones who stayed behind most eventually converted to Christianity and Islam. So when the IDF kills Palestinians, they are killing the original Jews. The irony is beyond belief. Zionism is a poison to Judaism and thrives on fomenting antisemitism for its own "perpetual victimhood" status to manipulate the masses. Judaism is a religion and not a nationality.

Over 80% of Ashkenazi maternal DNA stems from women native to Europe. One of the main definitions of what qualifies as a "Jew" includes maternal lineage: if the mother is Jewish, so are the children. This is confirmed by rabbinal law from a long time ago! Also, what does it tell you there are Ethiopian, Brazilian, Hungarian, American, French, Iranian, Kaifeng, Moroccan, German, and Ukrainian Jews?

Ha, science clearly tells Jews where they're from. "Studies on the genetic composition of Ashkenazi, Sephardi, and Mizrahi Jewish populations of the Jewish diaspora show significant amounts of shared Middle Eastern ancestry..."("Genetic studies of Jews",3d paragraph). See also: Katsnelson, Alla "Jews worldwide share genetic ties" NATURE, June 3, 2010; Lawler, Andrew "DNA from the Bible's Canaanites lives on in modern Arabs and Jews" NATIONAL GEOGRAPHIC September 28, 2020; " Abraham's children in the genome era: major Jewish diaspora populations comprise distinct genetic clusters with shared Middle Eastern ancestry" - American Journal of Human Genetics. 86(6): 850-9. BTW, intermarriage and conversion didn't make a big impact on Jewish gene pools: Google "Jewish ethnic divisions - Genetic studies" and read about the results of the US National Academy of Science study of Jewish genetics. Judaism itself doesn't encourage conversion. "Judaism teaches that there are different paths to G-d therefore a Gentile can have a full and meaningful relationship with G-d without becoming Jewish. To quote the Talmud, "The righteous amongst the Gentiles have a place in the world to come"( " Why doesn't Judaism encourage conversion?").

@@Michael-wq7qx Which is why I was specifically talking about Ashkenazis, they are overwhelmingly European on the maternal side. You know that despite being a small population, a demographic can still present diverse populations right? Kaifeng, Ethiopian, Ukrainian, Moroccan & Iranian are as diverse as they come. I don't care about the religious aspect, we are talking genetics here. Jews may be an ethno-religious group like the Druze, but the religious part hardly matters as religion is merely a belief. Nobody is talking about conversions and how they count as they are negligible. Speaking of conversions, even the small amount who converted to Judaism - its more of a reason not to give their homeland status and privileges such as citizenship, housing and education - it is especially audacious in contrast to Palestinians who don't have any rights.

If you only look at the written Torah, you are unfortunately missing half of Jewish law. However, in Bereshis, parshas Va'yara, Perek 21, Pasuk 13, וְגַם אֶת-בֶּן-הָאָמָה, לְגוֹי אֲשִׂימֶנּוּ: כִּי זַרְעֲךָ, הוּא This is a reference to Hagar, thru whom Avraham had Yishmael, the progenitor of the Arab nations. In other words, the pasuk says that Ishmael, who is the son of Hagar, will be of a different nation than Yitzchak, who was Sarah's (Avraham's first wife) son and the first child of the Jewish people. Later, the law of matrilineal descent was codified in written form in the Mishna (Yebamot 2:5; Kidushin 3:12).

How does genetics determine the genotype of ancestors who lived thousands of years ago? Based on DNA analysis of archaeological finds, ancient burials, and even corpolites(petrified excrements). Genetics not only works great with the corpses of recently deceased people(for criminology) but also with human remains, regardless of their antiquity, and not only with human material. For example, DNA of some species of ancient animals, such as mammoths and cave bears were extracted and analyzed.

It is hard to know exactly where your percentage came from. The Jewish presence in Spain dates back to at least the time of Solomon's Temple. Jews traversed the Mediterranean Sea as part of a very robust trade economy connecting the Silk Road to Europe. An expert geneticist can look at your DNA and approximate how long ago this Jewish ancestor merged with your family tree. They should be able to determine if this person was male or female, and based on the haplotype, they may even be able to give you a sense of that person's origin. Would you be wiling to share what company you used for your DNA test? In my experience, there is no ability to distinguish Sephardic Jews as of yet from their Levantian siblings. It is usually Ashkenazi Jews, who due to greater restrictions of movement inside Europe as well as a much smaller and specific maternal source group, are identified by most commercial genetics companies as "Jewish." The Israelites arose out of that population because certain figures, supposedly ‘Abraham’, decided to be monotheistic, aka Judaism. Over time Judaism became more prevalent and the Canaanite identity faded and along comes the Kingdom of Israel and Judea…blah, blah.Those people, the ones who founded Judaism, were indigenous to that land, there’s no question about that. We’ll call them Original Jews. In the last 10 years or so the field of archaeogenetics has advanced and scientists can now test the bones of ancient specimens. Modern Israel digs a lot trying to prove its connection to those Original Jews and they find lots of Jewish artifacts which prove Judaism is indigenous to the land…there’s no question about that. They also find bones, which have been tested, the most accurate results were ones found in Megiddo and Hazor and they date from the ‘Biblical Israel’ era…the Iron Age. Those results are available to compare to your modern DNA, anyone can do it if they’re curious. As a Palestinian (In America) I wanted to know what connection I had to the region using scientific data, not propaganda and stories, so I took a full panel dna test. I’ll summarize but my results included the p-58 cohanim marker I mentioned in my first post as well as a connection to the Megiddo site which demonstrates I carry similar markers to that area. It’s called genetic continuity and I can prove it. If I decided to be Jewish I’d be an authentic representation of those Original Jews, because I’m indigenous to the land. funny thing, the fake political identity of "palestinians" is shared among people like you, egyptians who moved there after 1900 during the British mandate, the word "palestina" was created by the romans so they could disconnect Jews from the land. The Canaanites sacrificed their children but cutting them in half thinking they would get some wealth or something, the Jews may not be the indigenous, but they are the last people alive to show up, the Jews left the land of Israel because the romans would kill them if they found out they were Jewish, just because you converted to another religion the romans gave you the title of Palestinians, and then arab tribes moved into that land of Israel after the romans left and spread islam there, Egyptians moved into Israel for a better paying job during the British mandate of ISRAEL and then pretend to be Palestinians for the past 2000 years, long story short, the Canaanites are the true indigenous people to the land of Israel, many of whom were killed by Jews because they sacrificed their children, eventually these Canaanites merged with the Jews, people like you only survived under the roman rule because your converted to another religion and accepted the idea of being "palestinians" not to mention half of the Morden palestinians are from Egypt, Syria, Jordan and Lebanon.
