I have to believe that removing the delay in blood glucose values in current CGMs would be a huge help to closed loop systems.

@@jonzee The current CGMs measure interstitial fluid where the value is about 15 minutes delayed from the actual blood glucose value. This impacts the control loop (just like the delay before insulin takes effect which is why they are developing faster insulin). It appears you are talking about sensor warm-up period which is different.
@psdaengr911

This doesn't remove the delay. It reduces it by incorporating some capillary sampling along with the interstitial fluid. Its big advances are eliminating disposables, site degradation, warmup losses and iffy sensors that vary in accuracy with each site and sensor change.

Thanks for keeping us up to date on the latest tech and providing a comprehensive overview of this device. While it is a new way to track and measure glucose levels, it has significant functional limitations as it exists now. I personally don’t see myself using this device in its current state of development as I want a closed feedback loop system to aid in bg management. Another deterrent is its size. The G7 is small and visually unobtrusive and I don’t have an issue with subcutaneous devices (Insert once every 10 days & I don’t feel the cannula) or adhesive irritation/allergic reactions, but I know other people might. When I used to wear a Minimed pump (which looks to be of similar size), I tried using a pouch with a Velcro strap and also an armband when I wore a dress (no waistband to clip to or pocket) and also when sleeping to prevent getting wrapped up in tubing. Neither of these worked. The thigh strap wasn’t secure enough and ultimately my pump worked its way down until slipping down to my ankle. Lovely experience at a dance! 😄 The armband tended to bunch/roll up on my upper arm and it wasn’t comfortable when I would rest my head on my arm while sleeping. I think users of this device will mostly end up using the adhesive holder. So, no escaping the adhesive. Also, unless you can swap out batteries when recharging the device, as another poster mentioned, there isn’t 24 hour coverage. I think this would be best used by individuals with Type 2 diabetes.

It's a cool idea. Just from watching, my first question would be - can it be supplied with 2 rechargeable batteries, where these can be swapped and the flat one charged while the device remains in use with the other one? I presume that the described 24hrs will change into a couple of days on a production device, however this would be one thing to consider to provide an uninterrupted monitoring process.

I need to find the paper these researchers published. While many tend to exaggerate the capabilities of their products, if this device can rapidly measure deep tissue glucose response (perhaps through high-bandwidth scanning) and gather sufficiently reliable data, it could make things so much better. I sincerely hope that this works out.

@@cleveland-hd6mi I just hope dexcom will not buy Known Labs and then kill the non-invasive product as they can make more money selling their very expensive current (invasive) devices. The dexcom g6 tranmitter has a non rechargeable coin cell battery that is very hard to replace (on purpose), just so that they can change 100 euro for a new transmitter every 3 months. The mass production of non-invasive sensors make them likely very cheap so it could kill the dexcom business.

I hate to say it but this is too revolutionary. The current (invasive )cgm's on the market are still relatively young and theres new brands coming. This non-invasive cgm will be a huge threat to the existing market, all striving to recover r&d and potential profit. One scenario, this non invasive technology will be branded as "not safe" (or other factor), the company will be squeezed and resources will be blead until one of the big guys will make an offer they cant refuse. The product will be shelved for "further testing". I hope I'm wrong.

The current CGMs cost ~$7-10/day. This might cost 1/2rd that -in 5 years. How much is it worth out of your pocket to have a gadget to confirm what your body already tells you when you feel hungry and weak tired after exertion and/or not eating ?

@marinakiell1069 the shakiness you feel when your low is your bodies response to low sugars. The adrenaline itself is not lowering your sugar. Your bodies fight or flight kicks in and dumps adrenaline as a response to the low sugar. Not prior to the sugar going low.
