I don't think there should be more ovals necessary, but also not less. Ovals are one of the part that make Indycar special in the first point, which sets it apart from for example Formula 1, which is after all one of the great rivals when it comes to view numbers and visitors

This is true. I don't compare IndyCar to F1 because IC does far far far less views/races/attendance/sales than F1. A closer comparison would be NASCAR to F1. Not in terms of racing, obviously, but of everything else

@@oscaronboard I think you have to compare IndyCar to F1 because they are so similar in a lot of ways... Yes F1 is much much muuuuuuch bigger in all the points you named. But it should be the goal of indy to compete against that big brand imo

I stopped watching Indy other than ovals. they could cease all racing for all that it really matters.

Once you drop ovals, you loose the tracks which make you unique. Also the Milwaukee race was added because TMS dropped with no notice. And NSS will be on the calendar through at least 2025.

Check your history! IndyCar was founded for ovals! CART had gone too heavy on road/street courses. IRL was founded to help American oval drivers move up because small oval tracks are the breeding ground for drivers in the US. Look at the 2003 IRL schedule. All ovals. I don't mind some road courses, but it's became too road course heavy. I'd like to see an even number of each. It will attract and test the best all around drivers from the US and Europe. If you want all road courses follow F1 or IMSA. PS. You think the city of Indianapolis doesn't attract a ton of business on Indy 500 race weekend?

haha yeah Indy, just like Le Mans, is the exception to ovals. It's going to be interesting to see the viewership and attendance now that the 2nd part of the year has ovals (minus Indy).

Yeah maybe during that time ovals were the answer, etc. But its 2024 now and fans want to see more road courses. INDY 500 attracts so many fans/viewers but thats because its the INDY 500 lol.

It was that there were too few ovals during that time, and the ones that did exist had such abysmal attendance numbers that it made no difference post-Indy. The change from the roadster-style cars gave way to the more modern style chassis by the late 60's, meaning that the driving style had to change. No more sliding thru the turns... The IRL schedule had races that were lightly attended, especially when compared to a NASCAR event staged at the same track. This was the problem back in the 70's that started the teams to outwardly discuss the lack of attention given to those race ways by USAC and the Hulman/George family, especially during the seasons post-Indy. The end result was CART, after the feigned attempt by the Hulman/George family to lure the teams back to racing with USAC. The cars, from the late 70's onwards, were more than capable of keeping up with Formula 1 at that time, and even proved it at special races across the pond. Too much of the sport had/has changed, it's the "die hards" that have had a hard time keeping up, and are always the same people that keep bringing up the past. In the words of James Holden, from 'The Expanse'... "They have seen the future, and they're not in it..."

It would be nice if Texas came back. I would only have to drive 4 hours instead of 10 hours being the next closest race 😅
