As a Silat practitioner, palm strikes and punches serve different purposes. Palm strikes deliver more surface area damage in which pain is spread throughout the striking area while a punch is regularly made contact with the index and middle knuckles which serves a smaller precise surface area to penetrate. To contrast, think of a palm strike like a metal wrecking ball and a punch to be a bullet.

There are fragile bones in your hand though. If you're punching without hand protection AKA wraps, a slip could break your knuckles, especially upon hitting the hard bones of the skull. This is why early boxers would have a lower guard, because they would focus more on body shots since they fought bare-handed.

Palm Strikes are also more versitile as well and can lead into really great follow up moves, example: Say you use a palm strike that is aimed at your opponent's face, but it misses slightly to the right or left. You can now very easily in the same motion, grab the side of the neck or shoulder and then pull them toward you for a follow up knee strike to the gut🙂

It takes a lot of practice but it’s lethal Edit: the most important are: Median nerve: the one in your elbow that when pressed weakens their strength allowing u to take advantage; Knee: same thing as the elbow but it’s applied on the legs; Diaphragm: I don’t know if it’s pronounced like this, this is not an nerve however if punched with the fingers it can weaken or even block their respiration making it the most lethal. @catxray1603
2 ай бұрын
@@sheldonjr7194 First off, you're* Second off, you don't know what you're talking about. I, myself have been in my fair share of fights, and I've used palm strikes effectively on several occasions. There's many different effective techniques you can use for palm strikes. First, is a jab. It's the most simple. You've already confirmed this works, although you somehow think it's only effective if you hit them in the nose, which is another reason why it's obvious that you have no idea what you're talking about. Literally any experienced fighter won't explicitly go for the nose. All it will do is cause pain. you're much better off going for the jaw. There's also uppercuts. Palm strikes work well with uppercuts. And, although they aren't great at it, they CAN still be used as a hook, but at that point, just use a hammer-fist. It avoids bone-to-bone contact, so it reduces the risk of injuring yourself. If you actually end up in a real fight, you'll notice that you WILL injure your hands if you stick to normal punches. This will cause your punches to weaken, and your focus to dwindle. You are also likely to break your knuckles if you make the slightest mistake, which, you will. Professional boxers who wear protection still end up breaking their knuckles. An average Joe, like you, isn't going to be an exception. And when you break your knuckles, it's always good to know how to use different types of attacks. Your opponent won't care if your bones are broken. They won't stop. This brings me to the best use of palm strikes. You can use them even if all of your knuckles are broken. Sure, it will hurt, but you will still be able to throw an effective attack. I also don't stand alone in this opinion. An old friend of mine is an ex-boxer, and street fighter. He fought in local rings for extra money, and never turned down the opportunity for a bar fight. He is the person who taught me how to fight, and he pushed the importance of knowing how to fight with more than just your fists.

I agree with most. I don't know about palm strikes to the body though. Yes, punches to the head are risky because the head is a literally a chunk of bone and bone is hard so palms are better. To the body, it's mostly soft organs and floating ribs so punches are better. If you want to punch to the head, do so to the correct target and carefully. That's why you knuckle train.
