The one with the babies who are apparently going to be married one day just reminds me of all the times growing up that the adults in my life gushed about how I was definitely going to end up with either one of my two best friends who I've known since we were about 3. Now we're all in our late 20s and it turns out Friend #1 is very happily married to my cousin and they have a baby together, Friend #2 is aro/ace, I'm bi/ace (and transmasc) with no current interest in being in a relationship with anyone and the one time me and Friend #2 actually brought up the possibility of dating each other when we were teenagers, we both immediately agreed it would be much too weird because it felt like we were more like siblings. Moral of the story: shipping babies/infants is weird as hell and it almost certainly won't work out so just...don't.

Fun Fact: It's actually very unlikely that you are going to fall in love with your Sandbox friends. (it's a saying in German, I don't know if it's also a thing in English. It just means that you know each other since you were playing in the sandbox together as toddlers) Like you said, you were like siblings because you were growing up like siblings. It's to make sure that you don't fall in love with a relative and do incest. So yeah, it would be against mother nature to marry your best sandbox friend.

I dodged the whole thing by moving cross-country. Been married for over 34 years to a man who is far more my kind of human. My classmate and I reconnected briefly over the Classmates website. He tried marriage. Failed spectacularly. And still a politically right-wing and atheist piece of work. The whole "I hate my spouse" thing makes me want to gag, but it simultaneously makes me wonder if some of these people in straight marriages are unaware/closeted non-cishet people. Perhaps they were victims of hetero/amatonormativity themselves, thinking they had to/being forced to marry someone of the opposite sex, but they don't actually love the person they're with. My dad thinks this could have happened to his mom, who he suspects was aro/ace despite getting married to his dad, because they fought a lot and she didn't seem very happy in her life or her relationship. Food for thought I guess.
@GThe-su9kl
Жыл бұрын
I don't think that this is the case. My mom and dad hate each others even to this day. They were "lucky" because when they got together, divorce or separation was not stigmatized anymore so they did not have to live the rest of their lives together. I don't think that my mom is aro/ace or lesbian (I rather suspect that she might be bi, though I never asked her clearly and I don't want to "force her" into an identity). In the case of my father, it's harder to tell since I never saw him in a relationship. So, TL;DR : I think that the "I hate my spouse" trope has more to do with the mental state of a generation that lived when divorce and/or separation was illegal.
@jasmijnwellner6226
Жыл бұрын
@@GThe-su9kl And in some conservative communities, there is still a lot of stigma around divorce. I imagine there being quite a few people stuck in unhappy marriages who only stay together because they fear being completely rejected by everyone they know, and that breeds resentment. On the other hand, I bet there's lots of people who are happily married who repeat these jokes simply because they've heard them so often, like they don't even think about it.
@therinlucas1931
Жыл бұрын
@@GThe-su9kl Perhaps both are true. As a happily married person, I have to say having separate blankets in bed has been wonderful for us! We don’t find sharing blankets romantic, it’s just irritating when one of us wants a thick blanket, one wants a thin blanket, or worse when we both want to cocoon in it! Now we enjoy snuggling up in our own appropriately comfy blankets and happily share a bed 😊 It’s always disheartening when these subreddits are done, but they are interesting.

Nice that it works for you, and it makes you happy! My boyfriend and I always had one blanket, but then I wanted a heavy one, filled with glass pearls (don't know if you heard of them), and he didn't. So I bought a small blanket for me. One week later he was really tired of it and wanted to have a big blanket again, so we bought a big heavy one. 😂 Now we are both happily cuddling under one big heavy blanket 😊 Everybody should just try what suits them best, and don't let anybody say otherwise!

My boyfriend and I almost immediately after moving in together decided that we could not share a blanket. He sleeps very very warm, and I can't fall asleep with too much physical contact/if it gets too hot under the blanket. So we each have our own matching (but different colors so we can tell them apart) blankets that we use and if we want to cuddle before we sleep, we do, but scoot apart a bit when we get ready to fall asleep. We also have a very needy 70 lb dog who insists on sleeping between us so we don't have much choice lol I second the other comment, don't let anyone say you can't do something just because it doesn't work for their relationship. If you wanna cuddle at night, go for it. If you can't/don't want to, then don't. What matters is what works in your own life and with your partner.

3:35 it's not great parenting either. Kids are people you should be nice to not only because you like them, but also because it's literally in your job description as a parent. Your child deserves a loving & fun birthday regardless of whether they were convenient to you over the past year.

Seeing the young girl "future Hooters girl" shirt filled me with primal rage. The fucking last thing you should think of in regards to a young girl is that she'll make a good Hooters girl. If your thought process when seeing an 8 year old is "I can't wait till she's older so I can see her in short shorts" then I've got a bike chain and and some strong words for you.

No lie, the Happy Anniversary card made me laugh so much because I have auditory processing issues, which is something that commonly comes up in a joking way. So if my husband got this card for me... I would think it was so sweet with rewording. "I know sometimes you have issues with hearing what people say the first time, but I don't mind repeating it for you."

I have that ridiculously huge blanket and it's awesome for sharing on the couch. There's enough of it that there's very little negotiating to figure out how to get each person covered. Plus it's square so there's no "long" side. And when it's crumpled up in a pile the dog still claims all of it. He's 10 pounds. WTF Tiny Dog.

I think what’s happening is many straight people are emotionally immature and aren’t comfortable handling situations in a way that makes them vulnerable. These relationships sound like they have a lot of tension, and joking about it seems to be a coping mechanism that works well enough.

I feel like the second one (wife, best friend, mom, bully) could work and be fine in a kink sense. Like, this guy is into humiliation, so she jokingly teases and 'bullies' him, but always checks in that she isn't going too far. And she's mommy and dommes him by taking on a pretend motherly role, but he has full agency in his day-to-day life.

This is not exactly "are the straights okay" material but i'm still gonna mention it. I'm an ace, on a fairly friendly and positive school and we got a new student and a new teacher this year. The new guy, is a trans boy. I have him only on one seminar but we talked a bit and I've learned an interesting and also quite sad thing about the new teacher. (Like, okay, I heard rumours that she is homophobic and stuff but I didn't really give it a thought because honestly sometimes people my age can be easily offended for no real reason.. anyways im rambling) So he told me, how on the first day he told the teacher his prefered pronouns and name and she shot him down with "I won't do it, because its against my moral beliefs and you are simply just having a phase." Okay May I tell you, you wouldnt be able to tell that this guy is a trans man, had his name in legal papers been changed. Like honestly, its obvious that he's out, taking stuff and probably had a top surgery already. Its definitely not a phase woman! Moral beliefs are respected but still.. its less natural to use female pronouns on him at this point. And then ive started noticing how differently she treats my classmates and friends who wear pride pins and socks and whatever. There is a fair ammount of us in the school who are out and with pride already, since the friendly and positive aura of the school. I myself wear ace flag bracelets and ive started noticing the teacher look at me weirdly.. Honestly, it is so sad whom did they let in because of staff shortage :/
