Some of those comeback records areawesome! "Blood Of The Nations" is my number 3 in Accept´s catalogue, "The Art Of Dying" is my fave Death Angel and "Tempo Of The Damned" comes in as my 3rd fave Exodus. A couple of my fellow countrymen had longer breaks like Exumer or Destruction and they managed to come back with some strong albums. Damn, I need to go to bed now but you mentioned Andy Sneap so much and every time you said his name I drank some water. When I need to get up to take a piss every other hour now I´ll think of you... or Andy, hahaha.....

Been a while since KZitem has showed you on my feed Darc! Tempo of the Damned, one of Exodus’ best. Gary brought his A game on the riffs, not a single skippable track in my opinion! Not technically a hiatus as they broke up, but one of my favorite comebacks has to be Carcass with Surgical Steel, 17 years after the release of Swansong, crusher of an album

Wanted to add that I agree on First Strike Still Deadly. Loved that album, it back into Testament, and really thrash in general. I had sold all my thrash albums, except Slayer, in the early 90s, and this album then Art of Dying and Tempo of the Damned is what really got me back into thrash. I also think Alone in the Dark is 100% my favourite vocal performance from Zetro. I wish he'd sing like that in Exodus more. I recently got the first 3 Kick Axe albums, but I'm on the fence about their reunion album, but I like the new single they just released for the new album coming out

I do go back to Exodus' early stuff, especially Fabulous Disaster but Tempo of the Damned is a fantastic album as well. Oddly enough, I'm not a big fan of Bonded but maybe because Disaster was my introduction to Exodus. Oh and Impact is also a banger in my opinion, it seems that it's not very popular but man, that opening riff on the first song before the drums come in is so heavy, I love it. Pleasures of the Flesh is killer too but I didn't have it back in the day, I actually just bought it on cassette about a year ago and I wish I had gotten it around the time it was released but living in a small town in Alaska before the internet kinda got in the way of acquiring some albums, I was basically at the mercy of the only record store within miles so.....

Possessed… n Cirith Ungol’s comeback album kinda gd to me…. btw Death Angel still sounds gd n keep getting better in my book… they’re not that ‘samey’ like Exodus… i thought their new drummer.. Will Carroll totally awesome n gave new overhauled engine to their sound… he’s a beast behind the drum kit… love Andy… bt felt his style is holding down the band… IMO Mark sounded much better than his younger days… he’s better at controlling his voice now… Toxik came out with a new album.. honestly i hvn’t bought it yet.. bt having listen frm youtube… they sounded gd with their new singer.. n i forget to mention Satan… their comeback album was awesome … their singer.. Brian Ross sounded same as his younger days (same goes to Tim Baker of Cirith Ungol…. n check out their 2019 I’m Alive album… Tim n Robert Garven.. they managed to replicate the drum & bass sound as per the album plus awesome input frm Jarvis Leatherby on bass… i’ll b ordering their latest release.. i heard that this would b the last album frm Cirith Ungol.. they r disbanding again..

1. Accept - the second band I thought of. I think they've gotten pretty "same-y" with "Stalingrad" on. I didn't even get the last two. I did revisit "Blind Rage" recently and it was better than I remembered. 2. Armored Saint - A nine yr gap followed by a ten yr gap. And then only two albums in the last 13yrs. They don't release enough material to get "same-y". Always great. 3. Blue Oyster Cult - A 19yr. gap gave us maybe their best album in nearly 40yrs. 4. Cirith Ungol - the first band I thought of. "Forever Black" was really good. "Dark Parade" is awesome. 5. Mercyful Fate - No bad albums. Ready for another. 6. Warrior Soul - One of my most favorite 90s bands took a 15yr break before returning in '09. It's basically the Kory Clarke show at this point. The riffs are the same, the songs are the same, and the voice is shot. Sad.

Great video Darcy! I can say Death Angel definitely got better after their hiatus, I love the later Death Angel material, possibly more than their early stuff! The Dream Calls For Blood and The Evil Divide are my favourite new Death Angel albums, I think Mark's harsher vocals are great. Testament and Exodus, they're just as good as they've ever been! Testament are the ultimate consistent Thrash band, haven't put out a bad album to date! I agree their latest 4 albums have been similar, but the consistency is great! They've been getting better and better! I love the Rob Dukes era Exodus, those albums are fantastic! I'll admit, Persona non grata isn't as good as previous ones but it still has some fantastic songs on it. These bands are still killing it so late in their career, long may it continue! 😊🤘🏻

While I don't listen to the last album by Merciful Fate ( I don't know why) everything else by them is consistent in my opinion. A band that I listened to in the 80s that made a recent comeback , Cirith Ungol. Another band that , for me, are still releasing solid albums as though there was never a gap.

Hey Darcy: Totally agree with you about WINGER! All four "later" albums are very good and on the same level as those 3 "early" albums. Also agree about DEATH ANGEL and "The art of dying". Great people, too. By the way DA (for me) are one of the most intense (and best!) LIVE-bands of all times! ( Could never say this about Testament, who ALWAYS have live problems any time I see them!!! On a record side I do agree about "The formation of damnation". To make it short: The last four Testament albums are more my cup of tea than the four before the break. ("Low" and "Demonic" I don't need at all!) To answer your question: No, I do NOT like the Rob Dukes phase at all, his spitting and behaviour in general turned (not only!) me off. I was glad when Zetro came back. You forgot one important band imho: AGENT STEEL - those three later albums after a 12-year gap I do regard as very good and equally as strong as those first two. ( I am not counting this weird last album from 2021 and it would be below the other 5 albums in quality anyway)

I agree with what you said. I sometimes feel that these older bands are hung up on keeping it heavy and thrashy because that's what young fans want. Thrash fans are a shallow bunch, they don't care about anything as long as a band stays fast and thrasy. I like a lot of diversity on an album, that's why Dark Roots of the Earth is my favorite of reunion albums. Art of Dying and Killing Seasons are my favourite reunion albums of Death Angel. People can bitch about Metallica but I feel Metallica is writing the songs they want to hear. I think the band Satan has come back better, as has Obituary. I like what Carcass is doing. Canadian thrashers DBC and Sacrifice are working on new albums. DBC keep posting studio updates on facebook. Their first album since Universe! The first DBC album is one of my favourite thrash albums

Good idea for a topic Darcy and interesting to hear your thoughts on the newer albums. I think Accept and Exodus are good examples with their last two albums where they seem to have stuck with the same formula for perhaps one album too many and would benefit with mixing it up a bit, especially if you factor in the price of new music.
