I have a Husky 435 which is a great little saw. Starts and runs every time. But since I acquired two 036 Pro Stihl’s and rebuilt them, it’s like a different world. They are great saws.

Ultra sonic cleaners actually self heat. A heater speeds it up but isn’t really required. As for using flammable solvents, never fill the tank completely with them. Putting them in containers in water is not approved by any safety standards, but I have done it. Another thing to know is the parts really need a clean line of sight to the transducer. The pressure waves are blocked by other objects metal will transfer most of it as it doesn’t compress but one plastic part will completely block another so it is only receiving a hot soak. Flipping parts is useful. They work by creating bubbles in the low pressure part of wave, then when pressure equalizes those bubbles collapse at the speed of sound and fire a tiny ultra high speed jet at the surface knocking off dirt, and it can erode the material given enough time. Because of this action you really don’t want to use a foamy type soap. You want a surfactant. Straight water, a car wash soap, simple green and purple power are excellent choices. Straight water doesn’t have a chemical cleaning component, but works great for dirt, dust, and static attracted particles. Oils and glues need a chemical to improve their performance.

My dad had an 026 when I was a kid. We cuts lots of firewood with the 50 cc beast! We wore out countless bars and it always started and was good to go! My brother got the saw and still uses it! I’m 70 and I think my dad bought it when I was a teen. I’m looking for an 026 to use when I’m too tired to use my 372xp or the 395! 026 heck of a saw!😊

Original is nice if it functions, but mutts can do a lot of work. One thing to keep in mind with large ultrasonic cleaners is that they should not be run with a low fluid level even if you are only do a small part. the little units inside will burnout if the machine is run dry/low.

Old school pressure treated lumber and aluminum cladding don't get along, especially in the presence of water. Something about the old copper chromate previously used in pressure treated lumber being to close on the galvanic scale to aluminum. The reaction would corrode the aluminum over time. I've found holes eaten right through the cladding.

Hey bro, I saw a few of your mosquitoes fly by on the video, do you use shotguns to kill them😂 Have you thought about feathering the bad paint in the crankcase and applying the appropriate epoxy paint to seal the surfaces from flaking? It would also seal up the smaller holes and pits from where the corrosion is happening. Just thinking about some sound repairs for that saw in case it comes my way...😂 Keep the shop life happening, but ALWAYS MAKE FAMILY FIRST!!!❤

The Stihl 026 I have has "mag rot" on the clutch side, I'm in two minds as to if I should replace the cases, need to split and clean the cases. I have heard you can replace just the one case half but from my understanding the cases are line bored. Pull apart that other saw you have and see what it's like then make a decision TM.

Love your videos. My son worked at the university’s physics department lab. when I asked him about gasoline in ultrasonic cleaners he gave me a serious look and told me never to put gasoline directly into the ultrasonic cleaner the cavitation bubbles could potentially be hot enough to ignite the gasoline. Sounds like what you’re doing with the Jar is safer but you should still be ready to put out a fire.

Maybe someone has a donor 026 in their junk pile? That would be a kind gift to the channel. I think we can all agree the Tinman puts out some of the best content out there in youtube land and if your not using it, it would be a very nice gesture. If you feel those cases are good, I would run with them. Whoever gets this saw will not complain that is a gaarr'en'tee, it they do well then they are undeserving of a Tinman product... period. Ultrasonic cleaners are wonderful but if I'm breaking down a saw $4 at the car wash does wonders. A good soak with the engine clean, wash and rinse. Having said this I live close to a car wash😊. Maybe a investment/write off for the channel but if you haul water you will go through a lot more😂. Just my 2 cents for the day. Happy Canada day while we still can celebrate it. TC Mahalo Tinman 🤙🤙🤙

For me, those cases are too far gone. The actual crankcase is probably gas tight, but taken together, they're not worth the time investment to do a full rebuild. I'd look at the 260 cases and then make a decision. I once built an 026/MS260 hybrid for a mate. He was skint and had a dead 026 and a broken 260 and was borrowing my spare Husky. 260 top end and crank on 026 cases and 026 carb and it went like a train. So parts can be interchangeable. Use the best bits and it'll still be interesting.
