There was a lot of talk about the noodles not being all the way cooked and raw and not the right kind of noodle for a 3 minute soak, but I feel like it was forgotten that the instructions called for a 6 min soak, maybe going with half the soak time was part of the problem
@hallecious
Ай бұрын
Her comment about a 3-minute preference notwithstanding, she did end up waiting a full 4 minutes between preparing the last cup (Spicy Miso) and tasting the first cup she’d added boiling water to (Chicken). I would say that took her at least 6 minutes while she took her time to sample each one, - seeing as she went in order of preparation (1, 2, 3) and there is a lot of time lost while filming before final edits. These noodles appeared to have been parboiled then air-dried, but were not pre-fried before packaging like the squiggly ones typically are. That might taste more raw as the wheat flour hasn’t really been cooked before the boiling water hits them. Fun fact: there exist companies devoted to testing and selecting the perfect wheat strains with the optimal gluten elasticity to be worthy of mass-produced ramen noodles. There exist very serious critics worldwide on the valor of different noodles on the traditional ramen front.
@DumbestDumbFool

she was talking about the noodles being different than the other 3 minute noodle in texture, not about the lack of time as she did stated she let them soak for 4 minutes and the soup is barely steaming unlike normal 3 minute soak. Context clues aren't that hard to see

Yeah, they tried to go very healthy with these instant ramens (except for the salt amount which is a whopping ~37%), which is why they don't taste very nice. For example, ingredients for the noodles: unbleached wheat flour, sea salt, vital wheat gluten. It says the noodles will be cooked in 6 minutes, but realistically it can take up to 15 minutes.
@FlareHeart

If the flour tasted raw, I would definitely recommend trying a stovetop preparation where you actually boil the noodles in the broth for the 6 minutes rather than letting them "steep" as that might help both the flavor and texture.

That really didn't bother me. I came to get her opinion of these cup noodles, not a full fledged food critic review. I care more whether it tastes good than what kind of oil it has. For the "peanut" bits, she tastes it and finds that it's garlic a split second later. Idk about you, but I'm not confident I could identify what the brown/beige bits at the bottom of a cup noodle are from the ingredients list. The last thing I tried from Trader Joe’s (TJs) was their vegan tikka masala sauce (comes in a clear plastic pouch next to other sauces/soups). One decent americanized ramen is sapporo ichiban (the company, sanyo, is about 3 miles away and looks like a really big warehouse with nothing going on). Even the American version of shin (and shin black) leaves much to be desired when compared to the korean one. I have one recipe that makes top ramen good: Three packs of chicken ramen (boil just over 2 minutes, not 3), two seasonings, three tablespoons honey, two tablespoons spicy mustard, one dozen chicken nuggets. No water, it's a dry recipe. Add some hot sauce to give it a zest. That's honey mustard chicken ramen. If you want to upgrade it, use sapporo chicken flavor. Do not use maruchan, the noodles are too soggy.

I’ve never tried dolmas, I will ask my bf to grab some next time he’s there 🎉

Those are a VERY popular item! People tend to really like the dolmas, and it’s not unusual for them to be running out by the end of the day.

If the option of microwave is available i generally like to cook them in the microwave because it cooks to noodles better 😅

Pretty sure a Shin cup is cheaper. Know which one I'd prefer.

As a former employee: *No* I was so excited when they started stocking these that I was the first person in the store to buy them. It was a huge let down. Trader Joe’s has some great stuff, but the ramen cups are…edible.

You know what's so crazy, literally trillions of instant noodles have been manufactured and most of them get it right. Like how do you mess something up that's been done right so many times?

Immediately knew when I saw this video how things were gonna go. I was excited to try these when I first started shopping at Trader Joe's and saw these. MAJOR disappointment when everything else I had from TJ's was fantastic up to then. I still can't believe they sell them because idk who is buying them consistently.

In Denmark the Princess Pastry (Prinsessestang) is a variation of Wienerstang (Vienna rod/stick) and is supposed to have toasted slivers of almonds as well as a light glazing of royal icing on top. The icing is because danish pastry dough is not supposed to be sweet by itself. I don't think I've ever seen a Princess Pastry that has not come from frozen/a supermarket, but the Vienna type is commonly seen at bakeries and has Remonce (marcipan mixed with butter) along with the vanilla cream) The long form of sharing pastry is very common here and we have a cinnamon-roll version too.

I was thinking that the pastry looked a tad soft/soggy, too. I think a little glaze and almonds would add to the texture, too.

I still prefer saimin over ramen. That slightly ashy flavor from saimin noodles is something I crave all the time.

The U.K. do great instant noodle in cup. It’s not ramen so it’s not so much liquid and more filling as more noodle. Called ‘pot noodle’. You add boiling water and leave for a few minutes and add flavour powder. They are a dirty delicious naughty treat 🤣. I think they are all at least vegetarian (without a fuss or being a speciality) but have lots of flavours and are a national institution. There are also super noodle styles. Blocks you boil in pan with water with seasoning. Does USA have anything (vegan) similar as I miss these for quick snack and can’t find any
