A 2021 165hz qhd LG went on sale -50$, and an openbox model at my local store was available for 335, so i went in and scoped it out... not even a spec on the panel or bezel. The same week they had the 2019 alienware 27" 240hz 1080p monitor on sale for 320$ brand new i was going to get that if the LG wasnt clean. I highly recommend this for buying a 2021 laptop or monitor if its accssible to see i person. When ever they drop them on sale, they also drop the open box items. VS most places just calling them refurbished at a set price or open box as a seprate price point that isnt affected by markdowns. But Bestbuy does stack the sale. The alienware 2 year old panel is back up to 459, and the lg 450.

i could understand from a racing sim/flight sim, standpoint. PPL like to use numbers to manipulate the point theyre trying to make....its equal to 2x 27" monitors side by side...but with no bezel...whats there to complain about...as far as anyone willing to forego the purchase and own it. VS running 2x500$QHD monitors side by side with a gap/bezel. That is the literal design "concept". Its mostly intended for gaming, or using multi source+split screen etc. It has "more" specific use cases in that regard. Or monitoring multiple systems or betting/trading(stocks/coins). Most regular people arent going to consider 32:9, its for people that are interested in a different experience bc its literally 32:9, or that need multi source/split screen etc monitoring or watching like a 4 way split screen of sports/racing. then on the other spit screen a spreadsheet/monitoring program etc...if you were a streamer and you DGAF....you can play on one screen....hook up dedicated streaming rig to split screen and chat, with a second 64 key. Or play an MMO in windowed and watch a movie or etc on the other portions. Vs 16:9 4k and trying to do the same thing. Granted its price. Such users have that niche/perfect use case. Doesnt mean 32:9 was made for you

I don't agree. I've had an ultrawide for over two years now. For productivity tasks it's great. For just about everything else being gaming, watching videos, and web browsing I cannot recommend them. The cons have far outweighed. For gaming many games still don't support ultrawide or don't run well in that aspect ratio. All games except a rate few adjust the UI to have information centered in your view instead of putting it at the edges where your field of view is lowest. I've ended up playing games in a window more often than I'd like. Videos, outside Plex, have black bars. Browsers can't be full screen because so many sites don't have max widths so they end up with elements being comically large. Then those that do have max widths have tons of dead space. Then I end up with most of them being in a window that is around 16:9 anyways. It's really neat and immersive at the beginning, when it works well, but I'll be going back to standard aspect ratios when this one fails.
@TechnoNates

I actually have 3 ultrawides now, after getting my first one, a 24 inch 2560x1080, like 3 years ago, I got lucky as hell and my dad actually found one of the og 3440x1440 lg monitors next to a dumpster, the power cord/brick were inside of it, when he was working on some of the dorms around my city's college. I have since replaced the second with a refurbished gsync panel with the same resolution. I never actually "needed" the space for multitasking but when I am forced to do so, like writing papers for my classes, and doing research, its hard not to love the extra width. Using a normal monitor makes me feel restricted now in a weird way. Most of the hiccups I've faced have been in games, and when I can't fix fov myself, I just reduce the horizontal resolution and bear with the black bars. On the topic of the loss of vertical real-estate, this is a good reason why consumers should be pushing for panel manufacturers to make ultrawides with the same vertical resolution of 4k.

I like this reaction. We're two years into the future, but this reminds me quite a bit of people moaning about lack of vertical space when we switched from 4:3 to 16:9 resolutions. Keep in mind they were using 1600 x 1200 monitors at that time and we all know what became mainstream... Still has less vertical pictures. 1440p still isn't much more. And you can put a portrait next to it for 1920 or even 2560 pixels vertical.

I also can't deal with the curve. I need everything on my screen to look proper and color accurate for when I edit photos and stuff.
@D4rkstorn
4 жыл бұрын
The curve doesn't affect any of that, only on specific models. You wouldn't want a curved TN screen for example due to the viewing angles, and as far as i know, they don't actually make them for that very reason. I personally have a color accurate curved monitor with 90% DCI-P3 and 130% sRGB. It's less than 1 deltaE from perfect, and that's without any color profile, simply adjusting the settings. The thing about looking "proper" is that human eyes are spherical; Therefore curved actually looks more proper than non-curved. EVERY non-curved monitor will look concave after getting used to a curved monitor. I have a regular one right next to it, also color accurate. And it doesn't look as "natural" as the cuved one. TLDR: The curve's practical purpose is to more closely match the "curve" in human depth of field. Only with ultrawides does the curve benefit in other ways, namely that it can wrap around your vision better. But a NON-ultrawide curved? It simply looks more natural than a non-curved one. There really is no disadvantage for photo editing. It's just a myth perpetuated by people who don't use curved monitors. :) In the future most IPS panels will be curved, especially those meant for accuracy. I'd say GAMING is the thing that doesn't benefit much from a simple curve except again in ultrawides specifically; But i wouldn't get an ultrawide for photowork anyway unless i'd plan to divide the screen for multiple projects.

@@D4rkstorn not just bc aero/structural support...but thats also why most vehicular glass is curved as far as drivers/pilots same to glasses...Its like a light/shaft. If you want to see a room which is more effective way of utilizing 1 bulb of light. Emitted from a shaft or open /convex....or bulb. Then multiply that bc of the monitor backlight. Right down to optics and photography lenses.....gotta figure the image was captured on a curved lens but the "film" makes it look flat. IMO an example So through conventional ethics/methods we could conceptualize flat monitors the same way film is flat in both photography or cinema. Yet its capturing device has multiple elements of curvature in order to give the human eye a 'Better perception' of whats captured. Digital/special effects add a new element to the xyz aspects IMO...since that is a factor i can see how flat panels can have an advantage considering thats how content had always been edited/formed since digital age etc. When an ideal outcome is set a curved monitor could really harm that process. Like you said though with experience anyone can make good material. But 4k for example the vid did showcase an example where he could expand his work/content, while still having access to his timeline/flow. Same example would be applied to any midi or etc applications, unless they offer some scaling/zoom features.

I agree that for video editing 1440p ultrawide doesn't beat a 4k 16:9. But if you do IT service work, especially with working from home. It works amazing. Way better than dual screen 1080p or 4k. When doing remote desktop work you don't need to worry about things being unreadable due to DPI scaling. For things where you need to switch between applications though it works great. Like for having a browser and a document open at the same time. Keeping two browser windows, a remote desktop session, a messaging app, and VOIP going at once and still being able to see things is nice.

In my experience with gaming anything other then a standard 16:9 isn't worth the headache of trying to get things to work right. It's completely hit or miss if you can get even AAA level games to function properly in non standard resolutions without jumping through endless hoops, and forget getting any indie game or older games to function properly on anything other then 16:9. A huge landscape monitor sounds great in theory but in practice I find it to just not be worth it.
