I've just viewed a small number of KZitem videos about how bad vertical monitors are for programming. I remember the first vertical monitor I came across. The Radius Pivot. This was many, many, many years ago. I've never had a problem with vertical monitors in all this time. I think it's great that you can pivot a large number of monitors today. If only by using a stand. I love using these monitors for IRS forms, spreadsheets, documentation, book pages,...

Should the monitor to be adjusted vertically be some inches larger than the main horizontal monitor? Like having a main 27' and a 30' or something vertically I was wondering how good would a 24' vertical look with a main horizontal of 27' lol, or maybe both 27'. Luckily I came across the resolution advice so my main is 27 1440p, the second I grab will be the same

A small hd monitor is great for vertical use < 19" else you have to look up too much. Most editors have a wrap options while not great looking it's always a better option than scrolling. Also most code is max 80 char wide at most.

I think a better title for this video would be “things to consider when choosing a vertical monitor.” Has some great info on what makes a good vertical monitor and the kind of stand to get, but I didn’t hear anything at all that addressed the question of “what ways does this improve or hamper your productivity when programming”, except for the vague statement that “the experience wasn’t really as good as I thought it could be.” I didn’t see any shots of the monitor actually being used for programming and what that looked like. Didn’t answer the question in the title at all for me.

A comment about that robot in your background.... I had a really bad breakup with my girlfriend a long time ago. We weren't married, but we had a daughter together. My ex girlfriend is a mega bitch to the maximum degree. Seriously, there is something wrong with her. That is why I broke up with her in the first place. That is pretty much the back story for this.... After about 5 years of being broken up and going to court with my ex and dealing with all of her insanity, I was living in the Caribbean a month at a time and then spending time in the NY area to see my daughter for 2-3 weekends in a row. My ex tried to take my daughter away from me around this time and lied in court about me a lot. Anyway, it is around Christmas time and I'm getting gifts for my daughter. She is born around that time of year too so I could also get her a birthday present. We were in Toys R Us and we saw THAT same robot in your video. At first, I didn't think much of it except that it was pretty cool. My daughter LOVED it. She kept pressing the buttons to make it do different things and after I got past the initial cuteness and coolness of the robot, I noticed that it is extremely noisy. My daughter kept spamming this button that made the robot go, "Uhhh", over and over and over and over again. Within a matter of 3 minutes, it was getting REALLY annoying. I told my daughter she could have the robot for her birthday. Then, she asked "the question": Can I take it home, Daddy? I tended to want to keep things I bought for her with my household so they were there for her, but I thought about the noise and how annoying it was and I got to be my daughter's hero: Yes, honey, of course you can take it home! Her face was full of glee and happiness! Then, I completed my thought in my head to myself.... "Your mother is just going to LOVE this little guy! HAHAHAHA!" My daughter is 24 now. She started living with me around 14 years old. She just graduated college and moved out this week for her first real job. That robot is in my house now. It is likely going to be sold or given to GoodWill. But when my daughter brought it home after having it at her mom's for over 10 years, I told my story to everybody here about how my 7 year old daughter wanted to take the robot home and how I got to annoy my ex in the process. My daughter never realized my plan and once I revealed it, we all had a really good laugh. My daughter, now knowing the full story, then told me about how badly she would spam the robot's features. She said that she pushed those buttons and played with that thing endlessly at her mom's house! She said she spammed those buttons forever... "Uhhh, Uhhh, Uhhh, Uhhh, Uhhh, Uhhh, Uhhh, Uhhh, Uhhh, Uhhh, Uhhh, Uhhh, Uhhh, Uhhh, Uhhh, Uhhh...." And the robot does this big dancing routine that is LONG and LOUD. She had it do that over and over and over again too. We all just started laughing more and more and more. She told us stories of how her mom would try to get her to use the robot less! HAHAHAHA! But, Mommy, I love it! HAHAHAHAHA! All of you guys out there who are dealing with a crazy ex that is just insane and loves to get under your skin.... remember... you don't have to break the law or do anything crazy to get back at them. You just need to be creative and love your children and think of ways that you can get an "inside job" done without causing your child any psychological damage and even while building your child's happiness. By the way, her mom lived in a NYC apartment so she couldn't "go somewhere" to get away from the noise. HAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHA! I wonder if the robot helped get my daughter to live with me sooner?

Hey buddy, you seem to have a ton of experience with monitors, can you give me a hand? I can't wrap my head around this... I really like the 27-inch display size as my main display for productivity --coding, taking notes with my graphic tablet, and watching educational videos--. Because of that, I would like to have a monitor that complements the 27-inch display...Which resolution would you recommend for the 27-inch display, and which monitor size and resolution would you recommend as a complementing display for the 27-inch display? I was thinking of going 27 at 4k plus a 24 at 1080p Appreciate your suggestions! PS: I don’t do gaming at all!
@FedericoTerzi
2 жыл бұрын
It depends! I've used a 27+22 setup for years, and while being definitely usable, I didn't like the fact that pixel dimensions where significantly different (for example, moving a window from one to the other drastically changed its size). In your case, with a 4k + 1080p that effect would happen quite a bit, depending on the scale factor you set on the 4k monitor. Again, it's not a deal breaker, but once I started using monitors with the same resolution I felt it was easier on the eyes :)
