Oh guys, you have found a gem in Al Murray, you should look at his other stuff. The full 2019 show is on youtube. You should look at snippets as well such as , "Name a country we have defeated them", "Al Murray on Nations of the World" and also "All parents must watch this". He created this stage persona of an old fashioned, rather bigoted, jingoistic misogynistic pub landlord, the reason for the bar on stage is your supposed to a customer in his pub when you watch him. He did several tv series with this character in a show named Time Gentlemen Please. That's also on youtube. In reality he is very well educated, having a History Degree from Oxford and has been given both an honorary MA and honoraty PHD. His entry on Wikipedia is worth reading. Once your familiar with him there is even an upload of him performing in a small bar in of all place France, entitled Al murray "here to help" in paris april 2013.

So my joke was that it was the apple that actually invented gravity and that all good ole Isaac did was observe it and take the credit for it. Here's some advice for you, don't try to insult people that are smarter and better educated than you are. He’s playing a character of a jingoistic pub landlord, people in Britain understand exactly the type of guy he’s trying to portray/lampoon Edit: when you make a comment then scroll down to see 9000 people have already made the same comment but expressed it far more eloquently than you

I know lots of americans and i tell them the same thing, our humour is attacking ourselves. American comedy doesnt do that very much. When i was dating an american girl she didnt get my humour because i would make jokes at my expense yet she thought i was being mean to myself. Once they know the rules, americans love english humour....like you guys did. Oh, this was first video of yours i saw. Am subing.

One thing that a lot of people miss due to watching isolated clips is that part of the pub landlord act is that his wife has left him. Hence the line: "It doesn't matter who comes first when you're on your own" and the follow-up: "It's been a year!" He would often use the latter when sex was mentioned.

In general I like people from the US. Being British is a lot to do with irony. Our sense of humour is special to us. If there is one thing to be proud of is the British sense of humour. For example Boris and his lockdown parties, only Brits would dress up as Boris with Boris masks and go to Downing Street, with alcohol and cheese and sing about having a work event. It has to be done.

Al Murray stand up is actually very educational. I recommend looking up the part in his stand up show where he asks the crowd to shout out countries that the English never conquered… 👍🏻

I'm sure you know Al Murray is playing a somewhat opinionated character. He does it so well. Even we Brits might shudder at what he may come out with, but still spit out our beer. But if you can get the joke that's great. Your sense of humour is sound.

I saw him live years ago. He asked someone for a £20 note then asked where he worked, he named a bank. A little while later he asked for a show if hands to anyone that used that bank. I put my hand up. He gave me the twenty note and said , "there you are love, they probably owe you that ". I never found the guy even though looking and asking and going to the reception. I caught a taxi home. Thank you.

Guys I'm glad you got to appreciate his upfront humour, and seemed to genuinely "get it". But what you miss is his subliminal messages where he is taking the piss out of what the British used to be, what we had, albeit mostly 'stolen'. His piece on the moon is a prime example and had me creased up on so many levels :) :) : )

Why is it Brits can understand any American accent and Americans struggle with British? I don't get it at all.....lack of education? Lack of mixing with different kinds of people? I'm not having a dig I just always find it strange. Other English speaking countries don't struggle so why do yanks?
@flameboy7265

Glad you enjoyed him as I love his humour. As others have said he’s a super bright guy who is mocking the Brits every bit as much as the countries he’s supposedly mocking in his stereotypes and general piss taking. As for the accents, we have some doozies here so I shouldn’t worry about not understanding everything he said. A full Glaswegian, Belfatian, cockney, Yorkshireman, Geordie or person from the Valleys, speaking in dialect can be totally incomprehensible to most. Most brits probably have more American English input via tv and films than they do accents and dialect outside of their own than anything else now that Neighbours isn’t as popular as it was and Paul Hogan isn’t on the adverts etc anymore.

Al Murray is brilliant, the character he plays is a cockney pub landlord. Apart from being hilarious he is an extremely intelligent guy. Check out his, "name a country we have defeated them" sketch or "Bacon proves the existence of God" sketch. Both are great. If you had a bit of trouble understanding Al, then you would definitely struggle with Billy Connolly, he was a Scottish comedian and a great actor.

My personal gripe with America is why the F..k did you build everything so far apart? I get why the towns and cities are so far apart from each other, but why everything within them? Just because you have a lot of room available does not make it a great idea to simply abuse the fact, for no kind of sensible reason? Don't Americans like their neighbors? Do they really need to drive 4 miles just to get to the nearest gas station and another 2 to get to the nearest shop? Everything in the USA is so far apart from everything else I can never seem to find America at all. How did Lee and Grant even find each other through all of those trees? You lot spread ourselves out as much as possible and there is still hundreds of miles between towns. So what difference would it have made if you had just brought everything together by at least 75%. American Children may be able to walk to school, neighbors may be able to know what each other look like. They would save fortunes on petrol, and masses of time over their week. Fine there are some clusters of people, parts of Manhattan, Boston, and New Orleans, and I am sure there must be many more, but as a general rule, America is a city and town planning disaster. Don't just blame the car. In many places, the sidewalks are 5 times wider than ours and hardly anyone uses them.

That's about right. Americans like to Diss other nationalities, but don't like it when other countries take the piss out of them. Let's not forget, European countries that settled USA barely 300 years ago, our history is thousands of years old, we haven't just fell off a turnip truck. If Americans look to their history, most originate from Britain or Europe. Who's the new kids on the block, it ain't the back street boys.
