Dhalsim has always been a character that either gets completely blown up by rushdown or literally "you cannot get in on this character, there is nothing you can do, you are going to lose this match," and it depends entirely on the skill and decisionmaking of the player. Even back in the SF4 days people were trying to call Sim low tier when Fchamp was winning tournaments with him. Basically if you connect with the character and can fully understand how and when to use all his buttons and teleports then you're almost untouchable. But it takes a ton of dedication and effort to hit that level because mess up once and you're getting waxed. So if you consider ease of use in what makes a character top tier then it definitely excludes Sim.
@gamelord12

My vote is for Zangief, because I main Zangief. I ended up jumping a lot against the last Dhalsim I played too, because you run into so few of them, and it's so hard to find the gaps that you default to trying to jump over the zoning like you would any other fireball, but that doesn't really work. So you hop in the lab, figure out the answers, and then 327 games later, you'll run into a Dhalsim again and try to remember those answers.
@A2ZOMG
Жыл бұрын
The trick to fighting Sim in general is remembering to parry to maintain healthy resources since Sim is basically never going to strike throw you unless he gets absolute perfect Drill spacing. Also the best time to jump vs Sim is typically AFTER you block 2MP and he tries to cancel it. He's minus enough that he can't proper anti-air after Yoga Fire cancel for example. Mixing in Drive impact very sparingly after blocked 2MP also lets you contest things that aren't L/H Yoga Flame. Also **never** let this character get away with blocked 5MK, since that's actually 4F jab punishable at really long range. Candidate for one of the worst moves in the game if you know how it works. I feel this is also one of the hardest games for Sim to make a comeback if you commit to lead camping him since his strike throw is so nonexistent and chip damage is fake as well.

What I like about Street Fighter, especially recently, is the game balance. Sure, Dhalsim is tough to use because of the high skill floor needed to play him at a high level but he has the tools to play at a high level. Blanka is a fantastic recent example of a character that isn't obviously powerful but has the tools to win tournaments. I think instead of which character is the best or strongest we should talk about ease of use. All of the characters in SF6 are strong it depends on how well you can use them
@TheHappiestMeal
Жыл бұрын
Talking about ease of use is really important, but some characters just have a lot of tools or not enough tools and that's generally more important. As these games age more people break through the skill floor and approach the skill ceiling and we get to see who is good in what areas and who is lacking in some areas. As players get better with characters, ease of use becomes less important (to a point) and overall tool kit becomes what maters.

I think I said this on a previous video from you but I'll say it again: I'm surprised I didn't see more EX yoga arch from you. (The arcing fireball). It's literally a "go my child and hold down the neutral" button. It has EX fireball properties so it will eat infinite normal fireballs and fully block any EX fireball, it stays out for days and tracks the opponent.. and it doesn't even care if you get hit, it'll gladly break you out of your opponent's combo if they don't deal with it first. It's like old goldlewis drone, but you can't jump over this one or it'll still get you... easily the best fireball in the game, maybe even the single best move in the game.

So far as a dhalsim main my feeling is easily that he is probably upper mid, but some matchups feel extremely hard. some characters with faster walk speeds and approach options are just really scary, I think like cammy, juri, dj, and kimberly feel tough. The plus side is dhalsim I think does very well against shotos and grapplers. It sort of feels like if you get to play your fireball game and are able to assert your absolutely dominating neutral buttons behind that, actually you can have a pretty easy time. But against players/characters that have good tools for disrespecting your fireball or have fast approach options, I feel like i have to work really hard for the win. That said, I personally find it pretty offensive that JP has both a good reversal and an invincible level 1, while dhalsim has neither of those things, despite JP also occupying a zoning/space control niche. Grain of salt i'm only plat 5 so you know, I'm learning, but is what it is.

I think Dhalsim is better now (especially in the hands of prior Sim mains) than he will be in 6 months. A lot of his zoning relies on unstable strategies that are vulnerable to parry and DI, and once his zoning is figured out and he has to rush down to win, his flaws will be really glaring. His offense after losing air Gale was obviously going to fall back a bit, but his normals out of TK teleport are also MUCH worse than in SF5; he can now only land air lights after a minimum height teleport.

@@redvenomweb I generally agree Sim is going to fall off over time barring him getting buffs. This is literally the one game where he's unable to win by chip against patient players, and having one of the worst strike throw mixups against Drive Parry means you don't actually need to take huge risks to walk him down in this game. Unlike in SFV for example where grey damage was so broken for zoners meaning every attempt to close the gap against Dhalsim could be really costly over time if he got even a single tap on you. I never believe anyone when they say Sim is low tier. He's consistently been the most deceptively trickiest character to play against, and one of the hardest characters to really get a grasp of in the franchise. Most people try him briefly in practice, find a hard time figuring him out, and write him off. But then you get people who are psychopaths that really love his weird keep-away gameplay and can really destroy you in ranked - and because he's always the least played character in SF, people just don't know how to counter him because the matchup experience is relatively low for most players. Sim is scary, straight up, and the people who play him I'm convinced eat raw magnesium for breakfast.

I mean... two of the top 5 LP players right now play Dhalsim (M. Crimson and FChamp). That's really hard to do if the character is truly that bad. My experience? He really doesn't seem bad to me at all. I try not to use a lot of the harder to space moves (like slide and drill) without a setup or a fireball to cover. When you watch a lot of the master rank sims, they are similar in that they seem to use drill after blockstrings such as two blocked c.LPs and are careful not to use it too much in neutral. I usually only see slide if they are using it to go under a fireball, set up a throw, or are using the drive rush version as a meaty. You always have to watch your opponent and try to figure out their drive impact moves and their jumping habits. Until you've done that, you can't really know what you should be doing in neutral. Once you do know, you can pick your moves accordingly. I really like baiting DI with c.LP x2 followed by a c.MP. People will often drive impact that and you can either do OD fireball to break their armor or you can try to respond with your own drive impact. Anyway. Good luck out there fellow sim players.

As a diamond rank dhalsim main I can say that dhalsim is a very good character, his sheild pressure is insane and his damage is optimal, there is no reason to beat on my stretchy boi

Honestly everyone wrote off Dhalsim back in 2 as well, but he is surprisingly capable in competent hands. Hell he had one of the earliest cross ups in fighting games it just took a long time for people to really make use of it.

This is my first street fighter game and I just got platinum with chun, would love to see you get diamond with her because I feel like I have a lot to learn but not a lot of youtubers are talking about her.

Ken has been my main for a long time(other than Capcom v SNK) and they had the trier points you could use to make your team. I put the sweet team of Sagat, Blanka, and Sakura(she was 1 point) I was on vacation at a amusement park and sat many an opponent down with that team.

He's to vulnerable when up close. That's fine, he should be. But dhalsim's combos are so bad and do low damage. That's fine. He should just win neutral. Except there's no neutral. If the opponent realize they can just spam the O N E (1) bar move that gives them armor and stuns you for a full combo, they win. Drive impact completely removes the neutral game. Almost every Dhalsim move is punishable by drive impact from longe distances, and Dhalsim can't do much since he's so negative on his good buttons to control neutral. It's fine. Just spam fireballs and stuff. except parry exists. still, Dhalsim isn't bad or flawed, but if you want to play a reactive character from longe range, play JP. JP can do massive damage with combos, combo you into lv3 from full screen, mix you up from full screen and has insane corner pressure. Dhalsim could use some help. Maybe make some of his moves cancelable into drive impact, so you can react to stuff instead of just taking it and dying.

Level 2 super using light or medium kick changes the arc. Therefore the light version is a reversal that is safer than the long heavy version shown because you at least get your turn back if they avoid it.

People forget Dhalsim SF5. Think of how people felt about him on launch, then think of the pros that played him in tournaments. Dhalsim has always been a "we will need a few months to flesh him out" character, even as far back as Super Turbo, when the tourney scene really started picking up. And I agree 100%, his skill ceiling is high... potentially the highest in the game.
