I remember looking at some Russian tank documentaries on combat approved and believe it or not but the Russians actually wanted to do more with their tank upgrades but they were strictly limited by budget concerns and the weight. Believe it or not, the Armata was almost axed because it weighs like 8 tons heavier than a T-72b3 .

You did not just compare ERA to APS

@@PierreDolas I did and I don‘t see a problem with that. But I do make mistakes so please enlighten me.

They arent similar in their design but they share a similar function, to defend against munitions especially HEAT shells, ATGMS and man portable anti tank systems

@@h.a8681the only problem I see is that in modern warfare the APS complements the ERA or composite armor it doesn’t replace or have the same reliability as ERA especially when considering high speed kinetic penetrators and it is possible that it could intercept drones which composite or ERA can’t confidently do in summary an APS an ERA could be compared when talking about HEAT resistance but when it comes to pure capability and flexibility I don’t think they can be compared as they compliment each other strong suits

The APS on the merkava hasn't been tht good

Just because a more advanced atgm and a few rpgs managed to get through at close range doesn’t mean it isn’t good it still has a good track record of intercepting most projectiles

@@Galil-aces Many RPGs or ATGMs ( not talking about top attack) have gone through at ranges and conditions that were within Trophy limits. Yes that doesn't mean that the APS should be ditched , if it can save even 1 unit out of 10 ( just for the sake of the argument ) it's always good to take but truth is it's performance has been luckluster compared to what has been advertised by Rafael .

@@user-qq8ek4zs4s I haven’t seen any rpgs get through unless they are at a range of around 10-15 meters can you source it please??

yes, because everything they have (excluding majority of the powerpack) everything they have can be severely reduced in complexity and even costs. while i may have low knowledge on the electronic systems. as long as i know the principles and enough about it i can direct in simplification while not reducing in performance and quality. both sides are low quality. soviet/russian has poor manufacturing standards, while nato has complexity in the slaanesh levels of excess. both are shit but for different reasons.
