As a turkish foreginer who lives in Russia, I never came across with racism. It's like their norm to see a foreginer . But I'm still trying to be very very careful to not violate their culture or do something wrong . Because their culture is so diffrent than ours. For example, I'm not trying to speak loudly if I'm talking to a turkish friend, or I'm on phone in public. That's what every foreginer should do.

I am Russian, and a little dark.. since I have mixed blood, I was bullied ONLY at school until I was 15, when I went to college, no one said a bad word to me, all the people here whom I met respected me, and saw me as their equal. I conclude that mostly children are bullied, but this was in my youth, children have always been cruel, maybe now they are being brought up differently.

I have an absolutely typical Slavic appearance and fair skin. However, I was also bullied at school. It all started with the fact that a new boy was transferred to our class. The teacher seated him at the desk next to me and he started teasing me. Other boys began to repeat this behavior. Maybe it was because I was reacting to such behavior. I was angry and it amused them. I think kids are just like that. They will offend anyone who allows them to do this, no matter what this person's nationality is.

As for me, I have to be honest, the answer depends on your definition of racism. I have no problem with different skin colors, appearances, ethnicities, languages etc., but I am truely not fond of certain religions or detrimental worldviews that are not compatible with our ethical and cultural values and I cannot tolerate people who do not respect the law and our culture. Let me phrase it in another way: If you have a black skin, I don't care. If you have an epicanthic fold, I don't care either. If you eat strange food, speak another language or dress in a different way, I couldn't care less and I won't inferfere because that is completely up to you.´However, if you come to my country and break the law and do not respect my culture, I have real issues with that. You decide if that makes me a racist or not.
@ronbeats6322

It's not racism imo. I think racism is holding prejudice against a certain race as a whole. If you don't like a person not because of their race, nationality, country but because of their real actions and decisions, it is certainly not racism. That's just my opinion

"your definition of racism" being the keyword. Half of these people don't even know what racism is. Take for instance, the guy that thinks it's when a white guy hates a black guy. And all of them are clearly nervous to answer, because they don't know. If you believe any of the definitions from an American progressive, or American media, you're completely clueless. A bunch of little Putins calling everybody racist, for political manipulation. Where do you think Putin got the idea to call Ukrainians "Nazi", to justify his genocide? You won't get blamed for being one in Russia, so people can say whatever they want on that specific topic. I have lived for 20+ years in Russia and I can tell you, that we hate each other more than people of other religion, nationality or race - we can joke around about skin colour or how people can behave depending on their nationality, but what makes us truly non-racist country is that jokes do not cause violence and hate - only form of humor that we can take towards ourselves as well (and this is exactly why some of asked people used the n word for skin colour - they never consider it racist since most of them can barely speak English)

I would like to warn foreigners about the peculiarities of Russian humor. In Russia, black humor is very often welcomed - immoral jokes. I often make fun of my friend who is a lesbian. She understands my humor, we laugh together. My friends often joke about the fact that I am half Polish, I am not offended, because I know that this is nothing more than a joke (as a rule, these are jokes that are based on stereotypes in the spirit of: "are you French? I hope you won't make me burn Moscow"). As the commentators wrote above, there are many racists in Russia (as in any other country). But both society and the law do not encourage this, and for hatred on a national or racial basis in our country, you can sit down for several years (for example, you can give the movement "Men's State", you can read, but in short, this is a nationalist movement that was banned on the territory of the Russian Federation)

Hate it! Don't want neither Ukrainian or Russian to die, we are all just people with the same value! Apart from all that sad shit, i do believe that all countries no matter origin have some sort of bullying towards people that are different. I think it has to do with us being more aware of our differences as part of growing up, and in that age 12-16 that becomes very apparent and our brains do not know how to classify those differences. While growing up, 16+ i think we learn how to deal with those emotions and we accept one another because we all have issues and problems. And all of them are so very different indeed. I am ashamed of today's society that has a norm for classifying anyone that believe we are different to be racist. It is not about that, racist is about HATING those other differences and not to tolerate / accept them (and also to retaliate against them) You can dislike someones origin / culture and still not be a racist as long as you keep those feelings to yourself and you respect that you are different and no matter what you think, those people have the same value as you.

During the conversation I asked him where he was from, he said I’m an American and from Illinois, however grew up in Colorado and live Texas. He also talked about his bachelor’s degree in Automotive engineering and the passions he likes etc. Than he asked the same questions as well, At first I was hesitant to say, usually because of the things I heard about Americans, but never saw. I told him, I’m an Arab born in Holland both of parents of mine migrated from their country in 96 for family and a better future for things, and I’m currently moving to England too study in med school for my bachelors degree. He said “Oh nice to meet you, Arabs are some of the most smart working and hospitable people on the planet, I have some Arab coworkers from Algeria, Iraq and Morocco back home never had a single issue with them and they are amazing people”. Best of luck with your career and goals.” It was different, and completely change my prospective on things. That very moment I realised, It’s truly not so much the people, but the governments. Simply because, I felt like I was welcomed and talking more so to a close friend or family member rather than a stranger. Special shoutout to you Mike best blessings and wishes to everyone from the U.S and everywhere around the globe. 🇪🇬🇳🇱❤️🇺🇸 Edit - Thank you so much for for the positive messages.

As an Asian Russian (indigenous) I don't know any Asian Russian who never experienced discrimination. Literally everyone I know experienced it from remarks on appearance to beating (rare fortunately). Russians believe that since we don't have alot of black people and they don't discriminate them then they are not racist. Yet they want to rent out apartments to slavic people only (they write it in the ads) and hire people with typical names. You'll have a harder time to get a job, apartment. Some people as a guy in a video don't take you seriously and see you only as low paid service worker. When you talk about discrimination they say it's you being sensitive or your assaulter is just mean person in general and they meet rude people too or that it was just a joke. Your struggle is beyond their understanding and they ignore it and don't take it seriously. Also they like to complain about workers from central Asia. Like they come here and act rude. I agree that some of them are uncultured and can misbehave. But so do Russians. They have little to zero respect to local indigenous cultures and think that YOU are foreigner and their culture is superior.

Generalization or stereotyping is not a bad thing, every sane person notices patterns, associating certain behavior with a race or ethnicity isn't necessarily bad. What's bad is that people think the subject of a stereotype is "guilty until proven innocent" instead of "innocent until proven guilty", thinking of a group as if its an individual is not a good thing, but considering their culture, and being cautious of bad things that group is known for is a good thing.

America is unique in the world because we are the most diverse, multiracial, multiethnic, multi faith nation on the planet. We are always having to work at making a fairer society for everyone. A lot of times we take 2 steps forward and one step back, but progress is made over the long term. When I was young Martin Luther King was leading the marches through Selma and other cities. When that was happening nobody could imagine that one day we would have President Obama. We still have more work to do, but nobody can deny that America has come a long way since the 1960’s.

Seems kind of funny how words in various languages that are of similar origin to the English 'negro' become perjorative mostly because of past and present racial problems in some other countries. The term itself comes from the Latin/Spanish/Portuguese languages where it simply means "black" (color) and on its own would be perfectly neutral to this day in many countries (just like we call white people 'white'). Yet we end up in a funny place where societies with no slavery past need to change their vocabulary due to the pressure from the English speaking community because their words have a negative 'baggage'. This would be the reason people with no international connections don't see these words as racist until they are told they should see them as such. My language has a few racial slurs for certain ethnicities and they should not be tolerated but now we are required to come up with new terms altogether so we get 'white' for white people and then something like 'dark-skinned' as the preferred term for black people.

In Danish "Neger" means "Negro". The other day I was talking about black People where I then used this term. He then was like "wow that you just use the n-word". I was then like "eh? What? I mean come on, ain't no black person in the 1950s calling each other racial slurrs like they do today.. My point is that I don't understand why every word becomes politically incorrect. This is the reason I use that term. Simply as a protest against political correction that is happening 24/7. Even 'blacks' is wrong now.. Colored is wrong, but people of color is not. I think many of these people have a misconception about what Racist and Racism are: the false belief a person is inferior to them because of genetic history and origin and treating them as inferior based on this incorrect belief. Many seem to be confusing the racial term racist and racism with the less specific terms prejudice and bigotry related to a particular person's actions, often stereotyped, or ethnic/cultural differences based on a demand they conform. This is not Racism but prejudice and bigotry based on ignorance and intolerance. Oddly it is natural to have reservations about those that are different than us as it relates to our primitive tribal hunter-gatherer prehistoric lives. New people were potential threats. They could bring disease and illnesses that your group had no immunity to and over time people learned to avoid any outsiders that were different than themselves. Today's modern humans are not that far removed from that fear that helped us survive despite our perceived civilized nature. Less than a few hundred years in some cases, no more than ten thousand years in others. In order to overcome that built in fear we have to first be aware of it, then work to get past it and get to know the people we encounter that are not just different in appearance but in culture as well. Only then do we overcome our shortcomings as a society.

They are not wrong. The belief of racial superiority is racial supremacy. It is “a form of racism.” Just like how race based prejudice and bigotry is also a specific form of racism. Racism actually means a wide range. I see a lot of people argue that X isn’t racism Y isn’t racism. However they are all different forms racism. Anything that’s based on prejudice, discrimination, or antagonism by an individual, community, or institution against a person or people on the basis of their membership of a particular racial or ethnic group IS RACISM No matter whether the root cause is ignorance or malice, no matter whether it is a directly or indirectly judging people, whether it is towards a marginalized minority or majority. And prejudice is not less specific it is actually more specific than racism. By using the “racial prejudice” definition, they are actually being more specific about the racism that they talk about. Do you really think that if people don’t have superiority beliefs than boom they are suddenly definitely not racists? Racists are not that simple.

It's so interesting that the consensus is that racism is about hating people from other races or treating them badly, when in fact, racism usually manifests in terms of preferring one's own race and giving them an advantage over people of other races. This is touched upon indirectly by the “would you date someone of another race” question, and a few people's answers also got close to it, but it seems that most of the people who answered think that not treating people of other races badly is all that is necessary to be personally free of racism. On the other hand, it is a strange question to walk up to a stranger and ask, and perhaps it was perceived as an accusation rather than merely an informational question. This might have biased them to responding defensively.

There are a lot of racists in Russia, but they don't call it racism. The word racism is an English word, and it usualy comes up in topics descussing american-type racism - like hatred of black people. So when people hear "Racism", they think about hatred of black people, and that's not a big thing in Russia. Why would you hate black people, if you probably most likely never even seen one in real life? What is a problem in Russia though - is hatred of brown people. Like imigrants from central asia, or even non-slavic people from inside of national regions of Russia - tajiks, caucasians, chechens, armenians, etc. And that's usualy called nationalism, not racism. That's why black people, east asians, and other people of races that are not as common in Russia ussualy don't expirience much racism. But there is racism in Russia - it's just different from the one in USA. It's more about hating immigrants and islam. You can see that with slurs and phrases - there is no russian-originated slur for black people, only ones from English, but theres a lot of those slurs for brown people. Theres also a popular nationalist phrase - "Russia is for Russians (as a nationality)". And the word "Inkpot" for women who date brown or black people. I personally, as a half-tajik, expirienced a fair share of racism. Mostly casual bulliying in school, and stuff on the Internet. Also some burning cigaretes thrown at my back. If you want to know the real deal about racism in russia - ask brown people.

This questions is more complicated than people like to believe. Racism is thinking one race is superior or inferior to another race. By this definition, not many people are racist. If you consider people in current times consider racism as saying something bad about another race or thinking something bad about another race, then every human is racist. In my opinion, people are all tribal based on our DNA and evolution, todays twisted definition makes everyone racist because they are all tribal. If someone believes they are not racist based on todays definitions, then they are all liars and only parrots saying what they consider to be acceptable. Everyone has thought a negative thing about another race based off an individuals actions. Knowing it is that person that is the asshole and not the race is something most people understand and believe themselves. But based on todays twisted and warped definition that makes everyone a racist.

@ВалерийЦветиков-ф9ы
