Reuniting last year’s experimental KZitem series Dhindhora ki team, jismein nirdeshak Himank Gaur, producer Rohit Raj, and writers Hussain aur Abbas Dalal, all of it fronted by producer, actor, and creator Bhuvan Bam himself, Taaza Khabar is tonally as different as possible from the last outing. This time, the show isn’t trying to be different, not altering the form the way they did in Dhindhora. Rather, this is good old, tried and tested narrative storytelling, jahaan ek hero hai, ek heroine, dost, mohalla, corrupt politician, rags to riches, aur ek moral of the story. And as any self-respecting Hindi masala story should, there IS a little bit of magic.
These mainstream storytelling devices, plot points, and characters, keep Taaza Khabar from feeling dull or dated thanks to skillful implementation. Hussain and Abbas Dalal approach the fool-proof traditional narrative conventions and stick SUPER hard to their plus points, trusting what is known to work. Call To Adventure, Icarus, the “temptress”, magic realism, and messages of religious harmony, are dexterously assimilated to offer not just an entertaining storyline, but also insightful socio-political commentary.
Taaza Khabar’s displays rather exemplary attention to detail, a trait visible in Dhindhora as well. Where in that series, minute details like a Tata Nano car having a large truck ka horn, were added in to generate absurdist humor about things and people living "aukaat ke baahar", every little throwaway moment in Taaza Khabar carries with it even more intentionality.
Taaza Khabar - A Sanitation worker, how he stumbles upon magical powers which leads to a riveting new ride for the man, and how it stirs his humble life. Stars Bhuvan Bam, Shriya Pilgaonkar, Shilpa Shukla, J.D. Chakravarthi, Deven Bhojani, Nitya Mathur, Prathamesh Parab.
