A 10.5 driver lofted to 11.75. It goes into the stratosphere and lands with no roll. Some of the “older” golfers with ancient drivers hit it really low, lands about 180yds and get 40 yds of roll. And end up about 25-30yds behind me.

60 years of age, Swing speed 90mph . Driver set at 11.5 degree, average carry distance 225
These are my figures also. In winter when the ball stops where it pitches I will increase the loft. In summer when the ball runs and runs I reduce it. We don’t water our fairways in this part of the world. Presently got a Radspeed driver set to 10 1/2 degrees with the heavier weight behind the clubface. My max distance is 240 yards. Swing speed 85.

Similar yardages and playing conditions. My new driver (Father’s Day gift) is a Hogan S53 Max. That’s good advice to adjust loft on seasonal course conditions. Thanks.

Mine can be set at 8.5, 9.5 standard 10.5, 11.5 or 12.5 and I have no idea what to do with any of them or what setting is right for me. I keep it at 10.5 for now, and my swing speed is 88-94mph.

I was hitting my 9.5 degree driver 290 to 310 yards which my club fitter clocked a 105-108 swing speed back in the day. I loaned my 10.5 degree driver to one of my golf buddies with the caveat that I may ask for it back. Harrison graphite shaft, Warrior driver. Those stats are at least 8-10 years old and I am still trying to get back on the course this year. Alex, I find your advice here is spot on and I am simply sharing, not trying to make anyone else feel bad. Rooting for you on your goal to make the cut at The Open.

So currently I have a 9* RAD Speed that I’ve lofted to 10* and I’m swinging about 110mph. Should I adjust it back down to 9* to get lower spin and more distance?

i normally swing a bit above 95mph, and currently using 10 degree / regular felx shaft … is there a rule of thumb for swing speed / degrees needed / shaft flex? or is it all trial & error?

part of it is trial and error yes

71 years old, 3 years experience total, swing speed is right about 70. I would like to be a bit faster but I’m realist, I’m not getting younger. My driver is 12 degrees, not adjustable. I have been told by others that I launch too high and should go down to 10 degrees. From the video and the comments, I should stay at 12. No golfer here has posted that slow of swing speed. Your thoughts?

The loft is also important of the angle of attack with the driver, some players are up to +5 degrees up and others like Nelly Korda actually have a negative degree on the driver. So even some that swing harder but have no upswing or a small up swing will still use a higher loft driver.

I swing around 105 and keep getting big high slice . Pmay off 4 so I feel I swing ok , question is ,, would I get away with 8 degree and woukd that produce a little less spin ?

Adjustability is a shame… add 1 degree but close 2 degrees… it really not the same as a driver with a minus 1 degree.. but without closing the face! I really hate those hozels closing the face (or open!)

Picked up a PXG 0211 earlier this year in 9 degree loft (regular shaft) which may seem low. However, by adjusting the back weight and using proper tee hight (Thank You Alex!) picked up 15-20 yards and get a lot more run out, (total of 240-260 yards).

I did this in a sim recently to see if I could optimize my own ball flight. I went down on loft first, and that didn’t work. So then I went up a degree, and the results were fantastic. Longer carries, and now a baby cut. It made my game so much more playable. Recently did it to my 18° hybrid, and the result was incredible. I’m a machine off the fairway with it at 19°...can you believe I haven’t turned up my 3 wood yet??? How dumb could I be? 😂

One of two things more than likely... ball position in your stance (hitting up on it too much) or tee height (catching it near the top of the face)

Stand a little further back from the ball than you normally do, move ball closer to your heel in your stance, some practice back swing and rotate your body keeping club centre of chest not using your arms, keeping lead arm locked that should give you a feeling of inside to out sing path, when you swing turn your body through when you start hooking it, start using your hips to send the motion arms and body, hope it helps have a play around with it, also try a stronger grip good luck
