A photon is a photon is a photon. It doesn't matter if that photon originated from many miles away or a few inches away. If the photon reaches your plant it is a photon. Lights hanging at higher distances makes the light seem more like it is shining from one single source. When lights are lowered the individual diodes emit light that hit the plant at different angles. Lower lights increase canopy peneatration because of this. The light coming at different angles are able to better get under the higher leaves. Might as well lower your light, dim it down, create less heat (unless you need that heat) and save a little money. A photon is a photon.

@@steveletson6616 I have a very good understanding of light dissipation. Look up the inverse-square of energy and light dissipation. Perhaps you will learn something.

Maybe I didn't word it correctly. When I say the photon originates at a greater distance I mean the photon measured at the canopy. When it originated is was greater than a photon. In other words to get that photon at the canopy it takes more light energy the farther away the light source is. More energy required, the higher the electric bill.

Some bar lights work with bars removed, I rang Lumitek/Photontek and checked and they said it was OK to do. So I start with a couple of bars and add the other 4 as the grow spreads out, which saves quite a lot with such high energy costs.

Learn to read the plants. If the leaves are FLAT little Solar Panels, they're happy. If they are "Praying" right before lights out, you can turn up the light a little(10%). If they are not growing like weeds, you might be giving them too much, too fast...This is a 16-20 week process

On my days off from work when I'm home during the light cycle I'll mess with the dimmer and go as high as 100% after week 3 of flower but only for 2-3 hrs. A few days a week. Rest of the time I'm at 80% 12-18in. over the canopy Medi Grow Mini Sun 320watt and I'm generally 950 ppfd late flower. Beginning flower I'll tweak the settings via the dimmer and lowering or raising the light to keep around 500 ppfd. Pay attention to tour girls they'll tell you if it's too much or too little.

Running your lights at 100 percent is asking for a short lifespan or degraded par earlier on! Close range low wattage l.e.d.s. Is the way to go for affordable indoor lighting and I do believe Shane over at migro would agree? Applications vary from situation to situation but burning your lights up quicker and using more electricity than needed could make it all get real expensive! Unless of course you have a KZitem channel and get your lights for free… then burn em up 😂!

Hey pigeons!! Love the content…I wanted to share my experience that was crazy!!! In my last grow..so I went big! I used 2 sf 7000 and about 5sf 1000s and 1 sf2000 all in 1 tent a 10x10. My issue was that I believe I had way!!! Too much light power! And they all went hermies on me 😢 and some Fox tailed..do you think it was due to all those lights being on 100%? I feel like it was so bright in there that the plants couldn’t handle it. Maybe with so many lights it’s better to keep it around 80ish% I grew 17 plants and it broke my heart to see them hermie and my only conclusion was the lights

I don't prefer to do that for a few reasons. My mars hydro fc-e4800 uses 80 watts at 0% and 520 watts at 100%. It also puts out a lot of heat at full power. That heat is great during seedling and veg stage, but it becomes a problem during flower time. 520 watts is the equivalent of a low-end gaming pc running all the time. 80 watts is about how much a box fan uses.

When moving from indoor to outdoor. If the lights are on for 18 & 6 off and I move them outside. Will they instantly flower if the actual sunrise sunset is about 13 hours? Also what about if my timer has them coming on at 6 am (sunrise 6 am) and going till midnight (sunset almost 7 pm). Thanks anyone who can help and has experience with this.

Get a par meter. There are many options these days and the prices are reasonable. There are even aps you can get for your phone. Personally, I prefer multiple smaller lights rather than one large one. You can set them at different heights to accommodate an uneven canopy and even split them up to use in smaller spaces if needed.
