I own and run a CNC machine shop here in South Africa, as well as do all the programming for our machines. I'd like to say very nicely done sir! Beautiful job, programmed beautifully!

Great video! I love your great use of the probe! So much more than a simple x,y,z,a zero. Nice "tailstock" too!

+wtopace Thanks! I figure its there, and super powerful, I might as well take advantage of the Renishaw. "Tailstock" was more or less a solution for being somewhat lazy. I dislike removing vises since they are saved as G56 and G58, so wanted something that would work in a vise. Unfortunately my vise locations and spacing are pretty terrible, especially for long action bolts, so I may put a notch in the fixture so I can get more of it in the vise...if that makes sense.

I would love to send my JC Higgins bolt to have it polished & re-jewled. Beautiful work...... I'm just wondering the cost of such a project.

What is the advantage, if any, of have a fluted bolt other than slight reduction of wieght and looks?
@Gravel1331

Under bad conditions it allows muck (stuff that would otherwise impede cycling the action, sand, grit, mud, ice, etc.) to migrate into the flutes.

Other than cosmetics this could reduce weight could dissipate heat but number 1 is that it reduces friction between the action and the bolt. The bolt is not structural really. All recoil energy is in the lugs and barrel. Only really old guns used the arm of the bolt well rimfires still do but that doesn't count.

Too bad it was a M700 bolt. Just as well you fluted a dog turd.
