This is a prime example of her musicianship. She took control from the beginning and wanted her "B flat!". I am so glad that these performances are around for us to see.

Is that Mike Douglas back there jamming to the Queen and said in the beginning, “Tear it up, Aretha, tear it up”? Didn’t know Mike was hip like that! 🤣

I hope somehow somewhere there are at least audio recordings of her performing in concert somewhere. Aretha spent 7 years with Columbia. It would be a treat to hear Columbia Aretha in concert.

She gained control immediately and my gooodness. This don’t make no sense. I am floored. Years ago, i heard Tina Marie talk about Aretha’s voice and she described her as “ that voice” in the most reverential way showing extreme admiration.

Greatest of all time. It has never been in question. It's the TIMING! How she's jamming along, her own way, and phrasing her finish without even the slightest effort to find her spot. That's what leaves the others behind. The musicality is unmatched. Ella is her only peer

Aretha was the best pre-Respect. I LOVE her earlier songs, especially the Columbia years. Songs like I can't wait until i see my baby's face / Losing You / Running out of Fools / I surrender, dear. These were beautiful soul songs. Don't get me wrong Respect is a great song and made her a global icon, but personally the older songs do it for me more.

When Mike Douglas mentioned "Aretha Franklin at Leo's Casino (which is on Euclid Ave where Audi's is now sits) was the first intragrated club for black and white entertainers of the 1960s Lots of Motown; Chicago and Memphis acts appeared and this club was famous for the LAST SHOW THAT OTIS REDDING PERFORMED BEFORE THAT ILL FATED FLIGHT HE TOOK THAT SAME NIGHT. JET MAGAZINE HAS THE DEATH PICTURE OF REDDING SIT STRAP IN HIS PLANE SEAT DEC. 28, 1967 EDITION. WEWS TV5 DID A INTERVIEW OF HIM AT THE TIME BUT DO NOT KNOW IF THE FOOTAGE STILL EXISTS OR NOT. The piano player had the song in the wrong key. She wanted it in B flat. I'm sure the piano player knew that in advance but just did not do it. She still maintained her composure and nailed the song..

@@vm7497 , Yep the piano player was in the wrong key and you could see the frustration on Aretha`s face while she kept repeating "B flat B flat "....and she still totally nailed the song .
