I don't know how many people are aware of the musical training that musicians used to have. Starting in the 80's, with synthesized music, I think it is safe to say that the level of musicianship and musical training of many many popular bands and singers since is significantly lower than their predecessors. But even without there simply was less actual classical study.

No one at the time was aware of her range but only knew her as a pop singer and Queen of Soul. However, her vocal depth was so incredible that when they announced her the audience gasped and as she began and sang with such clarity and perfection she got a standing ovation at the end of the performance. It's really hard to tell if it is Auto Tune It sounds more like Reverb to me, But come on those of us who grew up listening to Aretha knows that the Woman can SANG! not Sing but SANG so her talent is real and it is Great and today's generation can certainly learn alot from her. And she definitely sang the heck out of this song. OKAYY SNAPS!!
@SashineB
10 жыл бұрын
That's what I'm thinking -- reverb, plus I think parts of the vocals are done in sections and then put together. But that's nothing new. She used to have overlapping layered vocals on her 70s albums. As for the auto tune, I am sure no expert as I know only the robotic stuff, and I've heard her live in concert a few times. Her voice is what it is and it has changed over the years but she has a very wide range and the tones change as she goes from one register to another. She can sound full and strong one moment but a few notes later she can sound nasally and maybe a bit whiny. And when she wants to knock one of those high vibrato notes she can still do it even though she doesn't do it as often or as much as we might like.

When Adele released this song I remember thinking "Aretha Franklin has GOT to cover this and do it justice as soul." God DOES answer prayers!

I thought Adele was doing a cover of one of her songs, as it has that sound to it. 😊

Difference between Aretha and Adele (both great singers) -- Aretha moves you from the depths of your soul and brings tears to your eyes.

Rest in Peace Queeen, I loved this version, she put soul her soul iinto this song and you feel it!!! very rare thing to do these days, regardless of autotune or anything else. She was doing what great artist and People do- showing the younger generation of singers not sangers ( as The queen was a Sanger big Difference!!) how to pay proper respect and acknowledge them to keep doing their best and be original! Always be original never compramise who you are!

Absolutely, she was 72 when she recorded this, she'd lost nothing, she still effortlessly soars to those notes like no one else can, Jerry Wexler once said of her - she can't sing a bad note, she doesn't know how to - and I've certainly never heard it.

Love Ms. Franklin's version of Rolling in the Deep. I have a feeling that Adele is honored beyond words. All hail the Queen of Soul!
