Genius Aretha brought me here. As many songs as I've listened from the QUEEN, never heard this. My mind is 🤯. Today is my 7 year anniversary and I have tears come down. Thank you for asking me to be your wife baby. This will be played at our 10 yr. vow renewal ❤❤.

Aretha ! The voice of all voice !. As much as I love other great artists such as Whitney, Sarah Vaughn, Barbara Streisand, Patti, Billie Holiday, Ella, Dinah Washington, Mahalia Jackson, Donny Hathaway, Luther, Peabo Bryson and other greats, all fabulous but Aretha in her prime had a voice that words could not describe . No one before or since could touch her and that says alot because there were/are many great singers. Her voice was the voice of us all !

And I remember asking my mother what is the name of this song and she would say "simply Y-O-U" lol so the word you was the first word that I ever learned how to spell, then RESPECT!!!

I don't know if people know or remember but Aretha's version of You charted while Natalie's didn't. This song went to number 15 on the R&B charts for Aretha. Also, this song was written for Aretha in mind. Marvin and Chuck wanted to record an album with Aretha, including This will Be. She turned it down, except for You. Said it sounded too much like stuff she did, so they got Natalie and the rest is history. If you listen to the intro to This will be it sounds like Aretha's you send me.

Lol Aretha gave old experience woman version but Natalie was riding her wave as the sophisticated lady she's a different lady and comes across more believable...every critic of the day gave this one to Natalie....Aretha even named her album You...Natalie still got the Grammy.

@@ronwilliams717 Naw, y'all aint gon' do that to Natalie! Let me just say, I'm a HUGE Aretha fan. She's top tier of my greatest vocal inspirations, however, to say Natalie "coasted" off her dad, let's me know you are either unfamiliar with, or don't appreciate her early catalog. Natalie was a sho nuff singer in her own right, Imo. She sang down! That's my experience. My opinion.

@@ericking8661 I only like her early stuff from inseparable to her thankful album her first albums were the cut. Yes but after that I really could care less for her. To me she fell off by the early 80s . I just never thought she was that good. I dont miss her. Her dad yes he was definitely legendary but that's my opinion I'm still upset about Vesta Williams she didn't make it that big but I thought she had a whole lot of talent

Natalie didn't try to do it, she recorded it first and most critics agreed there was no need for Aretha to come behind Natalie because had already put it down and they were already calling Natalie the new queen of soul. Natalie went on to win the grammy by the way over Aretha.
