Their cars miror their personalities; No messing about with infotainment systems or fake air vents, they don't even have any body work, just a chassis, an engine 3 pedals, and a set of wheels. Just what you need to get your heart pumping each time you hop in.

You want more weight in the middle of the car. Same reason most calipers are on the back of the front brakes and on the front of the rear.

This looks incredible, but the sound of the recirc valve is just horrendous. Maybe it was just due to the microphone you were using, but that was shocking. Especially for this kind of visceral car where the sights and sounds of the engine and suspension working are put on display for the driver, I would have expected better.

Lambr00 I’m referring to the noise you hear on upshifts and when the driver lets off the throttle at high revs. The turbo system is producing boost (air pressurized above atmospheric conditions), and when you upshift or let off the throttle at high revs you close the throttle, a valve after the turbo. That traps pressurized air in between the compressor housing of the turbo and the throttle valve. If you didn’t do anything, that air would try to flow back out through the turbo. That’s very destructive and puts a lot stress on the turbine wheel. As a solution, you can either have a recirculation valve, or a blow off valve. These are valves placed on the inlet air piping after the compressor housing and before the throttle valve. When there is an excess of boost pressure in the intake and a relative vacuum in the intake manifold, the blow off or recirculating valve opens and reroutes the air. In a blow off valve, this air is vented directly to the atmosphere. This is a common aftermarket solution, but it is not approved (at least in the United States) for emissions purposes. This also can cause issues with tuning, because the ECU may have already accounted for that air being in the system and will thus put more fuel into the combustion chambers, leading to a rich fuel mixture and inefficient burn. Dumping the air into the atmosphere also makes it take more time for the turbo to come back on boost when the throttle is open again, leading to a decrease in throttle response. A recirculating valve, likely what is being employed on the Atom 4, instead reroutes the air back into the intake piping ahead of the compressor housing. This avoids the above mentioned tuning problem, because you are keeping the air in the system that has already been accounted for my the mass airflow sensor (or whatever method is being employed to calibrate airflow into the engine). You still hear the sound of the pressurized air being rerouted, and that is the unfortunate “pshhh” noise you’re hearing in the video. That noise can be tuned by controlling a number of variables in the system, so I am surprised that this is the option they ultimately went with. That being said, this is a high performance vehicle. It’s possible that their testing showed that this recirculating system had distinct advantages over others and that’s why Ariel chose to use it. Sound is important in a vehicle like this, but if it comes at the detriment of too much performance, then it’s just not worth it. However, I do look forward to seeing what the aftermarket can do with this system.

Having seen some other reviews, I think the audio recording on this video is the culprit for how terrible it sounds. In other videos, I've come to really, really like it; it's not "pure" persay but it's definitely visceral, energetic, and just reeks of power.

Ariel, this is a car I WANT to buy, but I won't. When the car is around $53K US over there converted, but in the US this car will be $100k+, I cannot, will not justify it's price tag. Despite it's performance which is incredible, and the driving experience as well, seeing a $50K MARKUP in the US is ridiculous. If your licensing fees are that high to TMI and such, lower them. If they're marking them up that much, perhaps talk to the makers that if the price of the car was $50K US here they would probably sell 4-5x's more of these and probably make more profits in the long run. Right now it's absurd the mark up price and I refuse to purchase one because I don't feel like being gouged. I would love to have this car for me and my son to be our thing, get him into cars, but I can't justify it.

I don't know what base Atom you're looking at for $100k. All base Atoms are around $65-75k depending on options. The 3S however, is at or above $100k, but that's a totally different car.

I think hes talking about the powertrain. This base 4 i believe basically has the S/R engine now. And i believe they will make you pay for windshields etc now by the looks of it like they did with the 1/2.

not only will it be retarded fast i can guarantee you this car will be super reliable even more so than any honda or toyota family cars it literally have almost nothing to go wrong with it the fk civic type r engine in this atom is way under stress by its kerb weight that is less than half the weight of its original donor car there no ac to drag the engine down and the alternator is totally under stress having only to power the instrument panels and engine while running in open chassis instead of the hot enclose engine bay of a civic and the civic is one of the most reliable car out there
