Eminem has collabed with Nas, Jay-Z, Lil Wayne (twice), Busta Rhymes, Biggie, Tech N9ne, and not a single one of them “touched him” and avoided being outshined. Busta came close on “Calm Down,” but Em left Earth. People want to put certain rappers ahead of him that he got the best of when going head-to-head + outsold + has more accolades than, and it’s all because of his skin-color. I say that as a black man.

@haezeushawkins436 😂😂It means he's too good at it ,better than your favorite rapper. RAP is Rythm(Rhyming) and Poetry(Wordplay ,Punchlines etc) Eminem does excatly that and is better than the Top 5 Rappers at it. People listen more to the Travis Scotts, Drakes, NBA Young Boy, Juiceworld etc I hear no one bumping Nas ,Jay Z sometimes, My Goat Pac is played more than those 2 but also not like How they play Drake or Travis. Music is subjective, you got people who don't like rap tune in because of Eminems insane lyrically ability, even though they still don't like Rap. That argument is abused when it comes to Em but not other rappers 😂😂Nas continues to release but nobody listens to him ,Jay has been ghosting. I'm attacking these 2 most because they're brought in the argument to downplay the White Boy.

And then other white rappers such R.A. the Rugged Man, El-P and Tom Scott(of kiwi rap groups Home Brew, @Peace, Average Rap Band and Avantdale Bowling Club) all have more earthy content that shows that they're aware of their place in hip hop and is more palatable to POC. This. The fact people to make exceptions and qualifiers to include Eminem in the top 10 shows that he may not belong in it. Eminem is arguably the best with pure wordplay, if we ignore what is actually being said with the words but just focus on how words are rhymed, schemed, manipulated etc. But there are other rappers that are elite at that, but will be listened to by people who won't care for Eminem's music. I use metaphors like sports and TV shows for Eminem- he's like Game Of Thrones and Friends. But the culture likes The Wire, Martin, Fresh Prince...

I think what’s make Eminem great is not only the ability to be super lyrical but also the talent to write good songs that the world could relate too. He was unapologetic in telling his life story no filters at all, you could be super lyrical and get stuck in the underground scene as the dopest and never get out of there, the perfect example is Canibus. Eminem is the greatest lyrical Artist that hip hop has ever seen, give this man his flowers.

In terms of raw talent and skill, Em is absolutely a Top 10 emcee. He’s also an excellent and prolific producer. But when it comes to the last 20 years on the mic, his sole truly solid album was Recovery. He’s had legitimately embarrassing albums bc the bar was set so high and the shock value shtick/pop culture references had played out. He still has 3 undeniable classics (SSLP, MMLP, TES) which may all be masterpieces, plus a few of the greatest guest features of all time - Renegade (he didn’t body HOV imo but he killed those verses) , What’s the Difference?, Forgot About Dre) - and some legendary beats including Renegade. Plus the 8 Mile Soundtrack was dope as was D12’s Devil’s Night. He’s also had a hand in preserving and expanding 2Pac’s legacy so props to him for that.

I'm not American, but I understand American culture and history. I've studied it since I've been a child. I'm also the child of immigrants myself in my country and I understand the struggle of being ''a minority.'' Having said that, I never agreed with the way a portion of people speak about Eminem. They act like Eminem is ''just for white people.'' Meanwhile his music has spoken to a worldwide audience of a very diverse background. White people, brown people, black people all over the world listen to his music. Meanwhile the discussion gets reduced to ''nobody in the hood listens to Eminem.'' Bro, ''the hood'' is barely 1% of the world. So a rapper only matters if specific hoods in the states listen to an artist? What kind of nonsense is that. I feel like the people that keep saying these things need to realize that hiphop has evolved. Its not ''theirs'' anymore. It has become a worldwide genre. You can't gatekeep it as something from the hood. Thats like trying to gatekeep classical music to a handful of European orchestras. Nowadays you have orchestras and theatres worldwide. People need to accept that rap's origins were in African-American neighborhoods, but that its now worldwide. You can also have a German come up in the rap scene one day outrapping everyone. Thats what happens when your genre grows.

Eminem has technical ability. But for many people it comes down to Content, why he’s not in their Tops. It’s not necessarily insanity, or hate, or militance. It’s preference. Black Thought or Pharoahe Monch can rhyme technically perfect, plus content. But, then people will say he doesn’t have the accolades or stats. AZ too, and he inspired Eminem style early on. The reason why so many black people.. (myself included) are reluctant to give Eminem the credit for being the greatest rapper of all time is because I sincerely believe that if Eminem was a black rapper doing his exact same thing.. he wouldn’t have resonated with the black hip hop community in the same way he does as a white rapper in America and worldwide. He’s the Elvis of hip hop. Even though Eminem is a spectacular lyricist, In all honesty, I truly believe that if Eminem as we know him was black, he’d be looked at no differently than rappers like Ras Kass, Pharaoh Monch, Common Sense or Kool Keith based off his personality and rap style. I truly believe that. If he was not affiliated with Dr. Dre he would have never been this successful. These are inconvenient truths that have to be told when speaking about Eminem. I will admit however that Eminem has some iconic moments in hip hop history and 8 mile as a movie and lose yourself as a song are rap masterpieces with flawless execution! I actually thought Eminem got Jigga on Renegade. He crushed Bitch Please 2 with X and Snoop Dogg. I kinda agree with Aries that Eminem is a top tier rapper but because he’s got a white trailer park experience not authentic to truly urban black culture, he doesn’t resonate with older hip hop fans who were born into the hip hop black culture. True Hip hop is more than just dope lyrics, it’s about a cultural connection and urban swagger.

I’ve been listening to Eminem since infinite. I was in high school when the slim shady LP and Marshall Mathers LP dropped and remember vibing to it. It spoke to us as HS students. I remember listening to his word play in crack a bottle and was seriously blown away by his ability to make words sound like nursery rhymes or the way he dissed Mariah or Canibus. I used to dance to crack a bottle at clubs in Tokyo. I analyzed the hell out of his lyrical wordplay and outside of Kamikaze album, I’m not feeling him anymore. His content is repetitive and not speaking anything new. Maybe im too mesmerized by his old content and the timing of it in my life. The timing of it now just doesn’t flow as well. I’m not saying his wack but his music just doesn’t speak to me like the way it does. The song “beautiful” legit got me thru hard times and sing for the moment propelled me to where I am in my personal life and career.

Eminem does things with the craft of rap that not many rappers can do, for example, just listen to his verse on All I Think About... Listen to Relapse. The lyrical gymnastics of it all. The way hes bending words, the way he's rhyming sounds, the sharpness of his flow switches and delivery... Theres just no comparison, white or black. Theres no debating that Eminem one thousand percent qualifies, even as the number 1 RAPPER of all time. If you deny that then your reason is obviously because of his race. So yes, Eminem automatically stands out because of his race, but make no mistake, it's the raw skill that elevates him in the conversation.

I bought everything from obie trice to d12 albums but as I got older I start to realize to me just my opinion Eminem is not a great song writer. Lyricist? Yes! But I out grew the subject matter. Eminem is a dog on the mic but so is a lot of rappers who are actually good song writers. That don't get the push or benefit of the doubt that Eminem gets from beefing with a Brittany Spears to dissing your own mom on a track are things no other artist could get away with and be taken seriously. It's not because he's white I say this again I'm a fan but the pedestal ppl put em on is to much sometimes. I've heard no one bump Nas in my hood ,he's not even Headphone Music. But I've heard them play Travis Scott, Young thug , Xx Tentaticion etc. Are they the greatest to ever touch the mic ,bigger than Nas and Eminem? What's excatly your point behind behind that argument? Music is subjective but skillwise as a Rapper( *Rhyme and Poetry* ) Eminem has proven himself to be above his peers.

@602State Yeah but he's also 52 years old. Name me a Rapper in his 50s, let alone 40s, with as much pressure and expectations Em gets, from the critiques and fans alike. If it were to be another Rapper spitting the way Em did on his recent shit [Especially on Fuel with Jid], the whole industry would target him as the next big thing ever. But because it's Em ,we look for smallest things to criticize, downplaying everything else. You even had Tyler the Creator slam Em for being "Too Good, It's Disgusting". Music like I said Is subjective to each individual, I'm a Pac fan but some people think that his music is too outdated and that Rappers like Playboi Carti ,Quavo, Lil uzi vert etc are the new Future 😂 No pun intended. There's no number 1 Musically ,everyone has their own taste in Music. But the keyword here is Rap, the punch lines ,bars, Entendres, Wordplay etc, How you mix them together and turn them into a rhyme to fit a beat. That's what makes a Good Rapper. Anything else is entirely subjective to one's ear and how they relate to it. I liked some of Ems songs on his new Album though. But as a Rapper ,I don't look at color or club bangers or who is listened in the hood ,I look at the skill, iq and hard work one has. And Em is definitely in the Top 3 anything else is delusion. As a Pac Fan That Man Em is A Beast!

Em and other rappers can be in your personal top 10 but overall in hip hop/rap no new artist can be better than the 70/80s rappers They paved the way...all the others did was make the road smoother
