The coaching and management of Team USA may be the most pathetic and petty team leadership I’ve seen outside of international soccer. And that’s saying a lot. The lead-up to this matchup with all the petty BS proves what we’ve seen all year. The matchup itself was even more baffling. Wasting all your team’s energy trying to spitefully “own the rooks” was shockingly unhinged coaching. It didn’t work of Angel. Clark was shooting cold all night, but the USA coach was pressing her all night out of spite, despite the fact that Arike was the one embarrassing her side. And Clark still got hers in assists. Total failure by Team USA’s petty coach. Look at how many players on the dominant side tonight know that they were screwed by the selection committee. Team USA wasn’t picked by merit alone. It was filled by feelings. And the snubbed got their revenge. Sorry ESPN. You aren’t going to get away with the “they were only together for three days” excuse. You aren’t going to get away with saying the coach was just trying to work ideas out either. Team WNBA didn’t get an extra week of practice. And if you think implementing genius ideas like “have my older, slower players try to constantly blitz the best passer in the league who isn’t a scoring threat” is in any way “working strategies out,” you are going to lose all credibility. Cheryl Miller was just letting her players cook, make up their own plays, etc. and she had a better gameplan than the “professional” coach. And no, ESPN, you aren’t going to make Diana the star of this thing, no matter how hard you try, and no matter how hard Team USA is pressing you to push that narrative. She’s past the “sell by” date and not that good anymore. She shouldn’t have been named to this team. There were at least three players that deserved her charity spot. Calling her the GOAT doesn’t make it true no matter how many times they pull the puppet strings. Your coverage of this thing is not objective. ESPN is parroting they approved talking points. It is all coming off as fake as, and everybody sees it. This game is never going to reach its potential as long as so-called coaches and committee members are playing this ”mean girl” stuff, favoritism, backstabbing, obvious snubs and hazing instead of doing what’s right for the sport. ESPN can make all the excuses they want, but this national basketball organization is somehow being run less professionally than the average hair salon.

It's not CC's responsibility to sell T-shirts.. Just develop into the best player she can be. It would be practically immoral to want to pimp her out to make a quick buck... Let her create her game first. In the 2028 LA Olympics, I'd like to see her burning up the court, controlling her team's passing and scoring 50 pt. per game... 2028 Will be her time to shine.
