Both are amazing. The south’s version sounds cheerful while the north sounds slightly more sorrowful.

In fact, the Arirang is a regional folk song. Just as a Northern Irish folk song is one thing, an Irish folk song is another. There are many versions of the arirang in the north, and they are sung in many different ways. The same is true in the south, it's hard to simplify it this way.
