📜Firing and history of Arisaka type 99 rifle:
We will take this opportunity to take a little look at the history of firearms in Japan, because this type of weapon is not at all common in France, and even in Europe in general.
The first firearms arrived in Japan in 1543, somewhat by chance... From then on, Japanese feudal lords used them very widely.
It was not until Japan opened its borders around 1850 that the Japanese army improved its equipment and in 1880 the first Japanese rifle left the Japanese arsenals: the Murata type 13.
The Arisaka Type 99 rifle was adopted in 1939 to use a more pulling calibre, the 7.7x58. It came out in 1940 and 1941 2 versions:
- A long rifle
- A rifle
In the end, the rifle intended for the cavalry will be considered too short and unpleasant to use with this new caliber, the cannon was therefore lengthened.
However the long version was too cumbersome. You imagine that in hostile places like a peaceful jungle, it should not be practical... The short version was therefore used as the main version of the infantry of the Imperial Japanese Army: it is this version that I show you today.
The Type 99 is a good rifle, of good design and robust. But the latest productions, often called by our American friends "last-ditch," are of poor quality... This is what will make many Marines, having brought home a "memory," say that the Japanese weapons were very bad... That is not the case at all.
Type 99 will be available in 3 variants, one navy, for parachutist (type 2), and sniper. These 3 variants are rather rare.
