I'm friends with a employee of Arken and will be coordinating with him to make more content on this and other topics relevant. But this one specific we go over using a calculator online, etc. Thanks for popping in.

The rings need to be high enough to clear the front objective lens from the top of the barrel. You really don't want the scope to touch the barrel. It is fairly simple math. Let's use the new Arken EPL4 6-24x50mm as an example. The front dimension of the scope is 2.28" that includes the bell housing according to the diagram. The 50mm objective lens is actually 1.97" (50mm / 25.4mm per inch = 1.968") but you also have the housing to consider. Let's divide that by 2 to find the center of the objective, or 1.14". I have a CZ 457 and I put a 20 MOA rail on it that is 0.54" in height. The medium scope rings from the base to the center of the ring equals 0.99" but remember it sits on the 0.54" rail, so to the center of the medium scope ring is 0.99" + 0.54" = 1.53". So 1.53" - 1.14" (center of objective) = 0.39". The rail will cant down a bit toward the front, but not enough to hinder the rail from fitting. BTW there are 25.4mm per 1 inch, so 0.39" * 25.4 = 9.9mm clearance. If you used the low rings with 0.85" height to middle, you would end up with only 0.25". With scope caps probably not enough clearance. If you prefer to eyeball it to select ring height then you run the risk of selecting the wrong height and the pain of returning the rings for a different height.

WELL explained. I have a DNZ "Rapid Height" tool designed just for determining the required ring height. There's also a web page that gives measurements for hundreds of rings from multiple manufacturers.

Real world info that can greatly help in decisions on optics mounting without having to spend lots of money on our own likes and dislikes. Just subscribed. God bless you and yours.

The low rings do not work on the Bergara BMR 22LR CARBON fiber rapped barrel. But they did work for me on a Bergara Terrain 7mm mag. And a Bergara HMR 308. I agree they will work for most rifles. As long as they don't have a full bull barrel. I put an ARKEN EP-5 with medium rings on my Bergara BMR 22LR.

If you run a Daniel Defense Delta 5 Pro with extended Picatinny Base - with an EP5 - you will need Arken High Rings for the bell to clear the rail

It’s not the bell clearance so much as it is he bottom of the windage knob touching the center bar of the picatinney rail. It’s just the center lug or bar that makes contact when running low mounts. My solution is file the lug and re-blue it. This lug is rarely used and you don’t have to remove much material to get clearance.

I just put an SH4 Gen 2 4-16X50 MOA VPR on my TC Compass II (in .308 Win.) For me, anything bigger than the 1 inch tube scopes that are 3-9X40 mm scopes should probably go on medium (1.26 inch) rings. Which covers most scopes anywhere. The Arken scopes, carte blanche, are 34 mm. There is value and efficiency in that. The cost of the scope can be normalized, which brings stable profit. Second, as a a value to the consumer, you always have a scope that both lets in a lot of light and has more room for elevation adjustment. Even with the zero stop set. That usually cuts in half your total adjustment. That being said, even with mine sitting on a zero MOA rail, I could shoot 1,000 yards. And you can top out the turret and then still use hold over in the reticle. That would probably get to a mile. Pretty much all people shooting a mile, however, put on a 20 MOA or greater canted rail and have to zero somewhere between 200 and 300 yards, anyway. And still use holds. Some years ago, I watched a documentary of these people trying to replicate what was then the longest sniper kill shot. I believe the soldier was a canadian special forces guy and he recited the conditions. The went to the desert in Arizona, most similar to his conditions. Built a rifle like his, put on a canted rail. They dialed up but they also had to run back the magnification to get the fuzzy dot back on view. and hold off almost to the bottom of the vertical. And never quite made it. The soldier pointed out that long shots like that are a matter of luck, at times. He was not sure that he could make that shot, again. So, I am using medium mounts, myself.

I'm using the Arken "Low" rings with SH4 Gen 2 6-24, mounted on a Ruger American Hunter short action Picatinny rail. Fair & acceptable space between bell & barrel IMO. Our host mentions a curiosity about people who instinctively want to get their scopes down low. I agree that practically, this is more an issue if your comb is low and you aren't adding an external riser of any kind. But I also think that for some people, they have an instinct to want to get all externalities affecting accuracy situated as near the bore axis as possible, just like a race car driver or motorcyclist wants a low axle height/chassis COG relative to the racing surface -- to enhance stability. I think some people's instinct pushes them to want a low-as-possible scope. Some of these same people might not have spent a lot of time on their rifle marksmanship!

I have the halo rings and I also have badger steel rings and that is a pretty strenuous comparison. I like them both but it's also kind of trying to compare a Porsche to a Kia. Both meet my expectations because I expect a whole lot out of my badger rings and they deliver nicely. So do the halo rings for what they are. Apologies if all you're comparing is the clearance. I love Arken. They are my favorite for the $.

I don’t think the badgers on your last rifle are their low version. Badger 34mm lows list at .915. Arken 34mm lows list at .92. I’m thinking those are badger 34mm standard height 1.00

While the center section of the scope body clears the pic rail, it seems like there would be interference with that nitrogen purging 'button' that sticks out the bottom as well. Can you comment on this or maybe even add some video showing how this button clears the rail? Thanks!

Why you want the scope so low. Doesn’t effect the accuracy at all. Me I want to hold my head straight up not tilted so I can see the bubble level with my off eye and look at target with my other eye just curious to each their own

Comfort is key I agree. For "Many" they do not have an adjustable comb on the stock so a lower mount allows for a solid cheek placement vs holding sock against the jaw. Shooting from prone or bench as well as overall neck flexibility come into play. Geometrically if shooting at an array of different distances from very close to very far there are some mathematical benefits from the optic being lower. Accuracy for "most" comes from solid comfortable ability to plant on the stock.
