Nice! 2 Cans of Black RustOleum Anti UV on all Pieces before assembly. Then a Coat of Clear Matte Anti UV. While it's not needed, I'd plug up all the tube holes either with plastic black tape, or plastic plugs. Yeah, Rap Bedliner turns it into a $500 Rack for about $120 total! Great Video!

These cheap-o Baskets are great value wise. Though if anyone is deciding on purchasing them you will want to Rust proof the entire unit. Screws and the frame itself. Using a sealant on/in the screw holes is an added bonus if you don't plan on taking the unit apart much. Just a heads up.

What would you suggest rust proofing them with? A can of rustoleum rust preventer or something else?

Hi...what distance 'crossbar' spacing did you use to accommodate this '64? i'm thinking about getting one for my Honda Odyssey. just got my crossbars few days ago ( only had the Rails) so...hopefully i can get enough spacing and use the 'long boy' here. lol! thanks! looks great!

Do yourself favor & save your cargo from being stuck and poked from those knobs & threads on the U-bolts. Turn them upside down, with the U-bolts inside the rack & the knobs (or as I chose, nylon aviation nuts) on the bottom. Same strength, same system. Since the metal bracket is now below you factory cross bars instead, the only thing inside the rack is the flat end of the U-bolts. And that isn't even as tall as the tubes running from front to back. Oops, sorry...I forgot to tell you "GREAT VIDEO"

I just bought one of the 84" versions of this rack, and I think the entire neighborhood heard me as I struggled with assembling this disaster. Between missing parts, misplaced holes, parts that would not fit and needing a ratcheting tow strap to pull it together to get the "slide in" attaching points to fit together, I pretty well turned the air blue for several blocks around (be sure the kids' tinder ears are not around when trying to build this junk). I had to use different bolts in several points as the ones supplied would not fit (holes were either in the wrong places or the threads were not correctly made and bolts would not tighten), and the bolts are made with such cheap metal that if you do manage to get the supplied hex wrench to put them in, the wrench strips the heads as you tighten them so the bolts can never be removed again. The 84"x 39" dimensions listed on Amazon are not the actual sizes (closer to 79" x 37") due to the steep angle of the front which makes the forward 6" or so useless. I managed to dent the bars on the rear trying to use a mallet to drive the "slide in" joints together, then figured out you need a ratchet tow strap to do the job, so be sure you have one available. To fit the extension section in you have to first press the left and right sides of each into each other, then press two connecting shafts, and 4 endcap sets in all at the same time, and hope the holes line up to bolt it in (which they won't do). When putting in the flat side supports in make sure you do NOT tighten the bolts until you have them all in place as they don't fit very well and I even had 3 of the holes not fit at all (had to use metal screws instead of the provided bolts). All in all it took about 90 minutes to assemble this beast with a lot of tugging, pounding, and swearing along the way.

I got the same one for about 6 months and later got stolen. My car was damaged when they removed it. Didn't see that coming considering how cheap I bought it for. Make sure to find a way to lock it up.

RatanakTevy that’s a bummer, but you’re right this is a pretty easy rack to steal if you are familiar with them. Have to work that out for a good way to secure it from scum bag thieves.

Why doesnt anyone flip the bolts around? The one that hold the basket to the rack, that way they dont point up, instead they point towards the roof

It strikes me as poor design that the bolts attaching to the roof rack protrude up and can snag suitcases or whatever. Maybe cut them off? But then the treads get buggered up unless you have a re-threader.

MesserAaron13 with them flipped the correct way the ubolts would hit the top of the car. I didn’t want to chance scratching up the car. I have it off now and looking to shorten the ubolts to mount it correctly.
