Thanks for all the support and helpful comments. It's been 3 years now. The ONLY issue I've had is the charging cable to the main box stopped working. This has been a fantastic system for me. Please keep in mind. There have been multiple updates since this system came out and I made this review.

Good points for the pro's & con's in this review. I bought three camera's and they are great for the price point. Remember to point out the siren is at the base station and NOT at each camera. So the siren will only sound inside at the base station. Another cool feature is they can be taken on vacation or business trips and placed in your room for some sort of security while you're out of your room.

The Arlo Pro 2 (I think?) camera says it has a siren in the camera. Any insight? Hoping these can be triggered simultaneously with the base unit to provide more deterrent but more importantly to have smash and grab security so to speak. (Bad guy walks in house, smashes base unit that's on table by the door, but siren on a camera across the house is still going).

I lost my cord and took an older phone cord usb and trimmed the rubber down to where I could get the cable in contact. It’s all plastic till it hits the metal port so even if you have exposed metal on the charging cable it won’t hit metal like it’s supposed to till it connects to the port. I have mine hooked to power all the time. Like you I have bushes and a load of traffic that turns it on and battery life was not more than a month so it was by a window so I decided to just plug it into the power outlet using a 5 volt 2 amp adapter. No problems I leave it on constantly not using motion detector. Hope this helps. And that was a good video for people to have a good insight on the Arlo Pro.

Everyone needs to review the support reviews and complaints on Arlo's page, if it is still available for everyone to see.. .. The best use for Arlo as I have experienced, and likely with all wireless cameras, is indoors or where there is VERY little movement. Every tree limb and leaf, insect, animal, bird, car, etc will trigger a recording and you are forced to watch every video. Hard wired cameras with constant recording allows fast forwarding and you never miss anything!.. ..I owned the original Arlo 4 camera pack for my home office and hated it so badly I had to sell it for a couple hundred loss after only one month because I only had 15 days to return it. It had many wireless issues such as battery drain/cost, false triggers, lag time so it mostly missed intruders faces as they passed by, no fast forward so you have to spend hours each day viewing footage of all the false triggers, etc. Every car, animal, insect, and leaf would trigger it even though I spent hours adjusting it. Too little sensitivity and it would lag even more with less video of intruders. Adjusting to not pick up cars causes missed intruders. Also only one camera at a time can record on the system so there could be multiple triggers and only one recording. The lag time was so bad that it would only record people from the back of their heads as they were walking away. Lastly, my house was an older home with thick walls and poor signal pass-through which affected the placement of cameras.. ..The Arlo Pro is supposed to be better. The main improvement I understand is having rechargeable batteries and plug in ability and the PA System. The regular one took non-rechargeable CR123 batteries and mine would only last 1 month costing me around $10 per camera per month and I had 4 cameras.. ..Remember that if you want to keep it plugged in then you have have one electrical outlet for each camera and that gets expensive fast..

Great review. Only suggestion would be to show a better, more clear demonstration of the camera functions such as how the cameras are remotely controlled and the picture quality. The 720p quality as compared to 1080p would be my only beef with this camera and I understand using a battery would greatly limit it in that depatment. Thanks again for a good review.

Question about the siren... I see it’s manual and automatic. I understand manual, if you get a notification and don’t like what you see, trigger it!!! However, if it’s automatically, does that mean it’s going off anytime it sees motion!? I don’t want the siren going off 15 times a day for the mailman, school bus, birds, people walking their dogs, etc. So as far as the siren, how does that work? Can you turn off the auto option? How doesn’t work? Please share your experiences with the siren... thanks! Great review.

The reason we "knobheads" have given a thumbs down isn't because his review was poor, it's because the product is junk. We've tried it, it doesn't work reliably. Constantly going Off-line, and no fix for the problem. For what this system costs, it should work flawlessly all day, every day, but it crashes all the time. It's worthless.

I am in the process of installing one and while I like most of the features, but have a couple of concerns not addressed in the video. On the positive side, the alarm is not at each camera for obvious battery reasons and also doesn't call attention to the camera's location - so even if thieves find one, there are other's recording. First, it is not truly wireless as the base station must be plugged into the router which limits setup to the length of the patch cord rather than communicating wirelessly to the modem from anywhere in the house. The other issue, the alarm is part of the base station rather than a remote unit for placement anywhere in the house or outside. While loud, it essentially calls thieves to the command center where router and everything is. Unplug the base station and all cameras go down (plus the alarm stops). Also, on the top of the base station is one large multi-use button labeled "Sync/Siren Off". A thief doesn't have to unplug it to stop the alarm...just push a very visible button!

I see a lot of ladder time unless in the house. Currently using a 1tb Samsung 8 cam system. A real plus for these is, during a power outage, as long as the hub is on a UPS, power outages won't take them down. Now, I have a 900watt APC UPS on my Samsung system and I ran it for an hour on battery, at night so the infrared was on, and I still had 70% battery running those 8 cameras and me walking around setting off the motion detection. I think if the 3 cam set falls below $200, I might consider one. Woot is selling the Gen 4 base with 3 cams for 250 and it appears Netgear listened and the Gen4 base now allows you to connect a external usb drive to capture video. But can't confirm you can access the external drive using it's software. Not seen where you can offload your video to your NAS box. Would be nice but I'm not a cloud ONLY device fanboi so I'd rather see one that allowed access to recordings without having to pay for cloud access. Too bad Logitech dropped it's Alert commander series. I still have outside camera, 7 years old. Still works great.

Funny story about IR at night. The little white things you see floating in the air at night is the IR reflecting off of the moisture or the humidity in the air. My 5 year old granddaughter was checking out the camera screen one night and noticed this. She said "grandpa, what is that" as she pointed at the screen? I got all serious and whispered, "those are fairies, honey, they come out at night". Her eyes got huge and she said "I knew it was true, my sister said there is no such things as fairies. I felt super guilty because she wanted to believe it so bad. I told her the truth a few minutes later, but it was like telling a kid there is no Santa Claus. Now she laughs when she tells the story how grandpa fooled her. haha

ARLO ( by NETGEAR ) was a great solution for your ( home ) security. I mean it was basically the best system by far. ( so far the good news ) Since the company runs solo ( not under the protective wing of NETGEAR ) the major mistakes are just piling up. Their first pushed update ruined the base station. When confronting ARLO to their faulty update by following their support channels, they just simply push you around. NO SERVICE IS GIVEN WHATSOEVER. I have spoken to 3 different support agents and 3 times ARLO admitted the problem and 3 times they were going to send a new base station. At the end of the day ARLO did nothing but making false promisses. ( you do not have to believe me , I screenshotted every conversation so I have proof ) So what is happening is that you payed a lot of money for a working product, ARLO ruins it and no service is given to make sure your security sistem is up and running again. My advice, stay as far away as possible from ARLO devices. NO SUPPORT AND UNITS THAT CAN BE FAULTY AT ANY TIME. Spread the word

Very useful video/info Vince... you gave usage info that can't be gotten from Arlo. Thanks! Question about the rechargeable battery and your experience so far: Does one rechargeable battery only last ??? months no matter how many times it's recharged and then you have to purchase a new one or does a single charge last ??? months before it has to be recharged again? Would really appreciate knowing because the system sounds great but buying $40 batteries several times a year wouldn't be great.

Any wireless or WiFi cameras used for a real security setting especially mounted outside the structure (unless its a shed) is a ridiculous idea. I still tinker around with 7 of the 1st gen Arlos outside and they have sucked from day 1. Maybe folks need to use the security system concept of choosing quality over price INSTEAD of price over quality. None of the Arlo wireless camera setups are dependable or reliable. Battery hogs from hell and a huge amount of negatives starting from the trigger speed all the way through the process to wake back up to start recording once that first video was taken. Using the crowded 2.4GHZ bandwidth with only 11 channels to fight neighbors around you PLUS your other 2.4GHZ wireless things in your own home hamper their abilities. When they made these new 4k units (Jan 2019 trade show release) and IF they operate off of 5GHZ band and you don't have a dual band router, you were just suckered into a scam and now your stuck either to buy a new dual band router or take the worthless cameras back. TAKE THEM BACK... best decision you made after making the first bad mistake when you bought them. These are not even on the scale in the security camera industry anyway. They are more a novelty tinker toy that can be knocked off the mounts without even triggering the crummy slow triggering PIR sensors. Don't waste your hard earned money on some nonsense you reviewed from "clickbait" KZitem videos everyone is throwing out here fronting these lousy excuses for security camera systems.

Steve Heath as I mentioned it only reduces it in a pre determined shape, which is kinda useless in a lot of cases. As far as adjusting it in the app. Go to the main screen that shows each camera. Click the individual settings icon in the right upper corner, then go to video settings. Scroll down a bit, you'll see camera zoom. That picture you see is what you can adjust, just drag in the corners.

For the hard water, dilute a little white vinegar with water and use that to lubricate the cloth you wipe the lens with. I live in a rental and my camera's would be located inside my apartment. My jerk neighbor has one of these aimed at my front yard. Time to buy some flags and let the wind do its thing.

I agree, but knowing my neighbors the clip would be deleted in no time.If I was concerned about a potential thief,Id put up a camera myself . The way their cameras are aimed , they cover 98 percent my residence and two percent theirs. There are two of them twenty feet apart. This is nothing more than "peeping Tom " creepy activity. It is truly an abuse of this otherwise wonderful technology. I hope they enjoy their two hundred or more notifications per day.

Thanks for a great review. One question--what is the maximum distance of the signal? In other words, how far from the base can a camera be placed?

Great information and review. Have a couple question though. Is it required to subscribe to arlo plan or you have option to not to subscribe and just store your video recordings locally through external usb? Thanks

jaym nolasco you do not have to pay arlo for a subscription. you make an account to basically access the cameras and stored recordings. you can upgrade for more storage though.
