Developed by Nintendo in 1985, Arm Wrestling was a spin-off from Punchout / Super Punchout.
The same dual monitor setup was utilised, and there are 5 different opponents, each with their unique styles and quirks to overcome.
Opponents are defeated by quickly pushing right on the joystick once they attack. This will temporarily stun them. You must fill up the "money meter" by rapidly tapping the button, then counter-attack by continually tapping left on the joystick. If your reactions are too slow, they will eventually force your arm down, either during the match, or at the end of the 1 minute time limit.
Some opponents have additional attacks. For example, Mask X can only be defeated by removing his mask and revealing his true identity! This can only be attempted once he's nearly beaten, whereupon he'll attempt to headbutt you! The final opponent, Frank Jr. sometimes breathes fire, which must be avoided at all costs!
Unlike Punchout / Super Punchout, this game does end after 20 matches (each opponent defeated 4 times). It gets super tough in the latter rounds, and reaction times must be instantaneous to have any success!
If defeated, you can request a rematch up to 7 times. I therefore lost once to each opponent once during rounds 16-20. That's not to suggest I would have beaten them anyway, due to the difficulty!
The audio includes some pleasant ditties, along with voice samples of Han (Shih Kien) from the 1973 film Enter the Dragon.
