Just because an ingredient is banned somewhere doesn’t mean it’s unsafe. Organic filters have only been shown to be damaging to reefs in lab settings, not real life settings. And any scientist will say the real danger to the reefs is climate change. Octinoxate can be an allergen for some definitely so skip in that case but if you’re not one of them you don’t have to worry.

Came to see this comment. The original studies that showed chemical filters were dangerous were unrepeated and almost immediately highly contested, but it’s become a difficult and political issue in the meantime and it’s hard to address it because all these companies and places labeled sunscreens reef safe or not but didn’t update with the latest scientific info, so it’s been hard to communicate the idea!!

@@saritavenkatapathynaidu9533 it’s very similar to what happened to parabens honestly. A misinterpreted study followed by claims that they are endrocrine disrupting - yet when you look at the safety assessments they are too weak vs our own hormones to compete for receptors. Parabens are some of the most well tolerated preservatives too. A lot of the alternatives to the ingredients that fall prey to fear mongering end up being less studied ironically. Aww thank you! It’s too bad it has octinoxate in it because wow, it looks gorgeous on you. For me it was the dropper that was a deal breaker-but if it looks on me how it looks on you, I’ll totally put up with the dropper. I am really looking forward to your desaturated blushes video because I love Fleurtatious and can’t wait to see them all compared! Edited to add: You make such a great point about the exclusive site shades. Gucci didn’t do site exclusive shades, but their prettiest shade in the original release imo was the darkest one. There need to be “special” shades for everyone!

I’m leery about some of the “research” on octinoxate. It is still the most widely used ingredient in chemical sunscreens and it’s also in countless other products (lipsticks, shampoos, etc). Most of the research that says it’s bad, Bad, BAD involves lab rats being given insanely high oral doses of it. There are few chemical sunscreens that I can wear. I do have pretty sensitive skin and stick with mineral for the most part. I’ve not had any problems with this so far. * edit to add…. The research on it being potentially harmful to reefs is lacking too. It was done in a lab and not in a setting that is more like the ocean. It tells you very little and is inconclusive. Hawaiis rush to ban it isn’t necessarily warranted. It definitely isn’t if people think it’s an endocrine interrupter. We are not rats and we are not eating gallons of our sunscreen - hopefully. The research is still inconclusive there, too.

@@maryarmstrong2231 You do have to be careful not to rush. I’m not saying this is completely comparable but a look at what happened in relation to the research surrounding covid 19 and ivermectin is somewhat helpful in illustrating a point. Some people saw a study saying that ivermectin wiped out the spike proteins in covid… in a Petri dish. They ran with the idea that an award winning medication that helped treat river blindness and several other illnesses caused by parasites/worms would wipe out C19 in a human body. A Petri dish and the human body are 2 very different things. At that point researchers were throwing everything but the kitchen sink at covid trying to see if anything might possibly work. It would have been wonderful if ivermectin helped treat it off label because it’s inexpensive and incredibly easy to produce. Of course it wasn’t. An anti parasitic medication isn’t going to do anything to treat a virus. Researchers had some hope that it still might when paired with other meds. They paired it with countless over meds. No luck. Many still falsely believe it can treat C19 because of the initial study which doesn’t translate to the human body. There are unfortunately several studies of different natures that people latch onto even though they cannot tell you anything about the implications for actual humans.

I think you would have liked the 100 in the bronzer more than 90 because the 100 doesn’t show as much green at all. I’m lighter than you and more neutral toned and it’s the color I got. I do still think the 90 looked lovely on you. Didn’t translate “green” to me and it looked very natural.

I 1000% understand where Kackie got the idea, it's been screamed from the rooftops for years. After the fuge state that became the clean beauty movement as a whole where ingredients were demonized, we started looking at data more critically and realize we're seeing, not the effects of beach goers, but the acidification of our oceans as global and water temps rise, is what's bleaching reefs at rapid pace. Michelle from Lab muffin talks about it I think? However Kackie is right that octinoxate (and oxybenzone) are banned in Hawaii as of 2021, so it's a big bummer that they chose a filter than can't be sold everywhere in the US market.

Skincare in makeup really just adds ingredients for people to react to, why can't they stay separate, especially at this price point? The Armani bronzing drops has SPF 15...the amount of SPF coverage you get with a typical application will be what, SPF 3, maybe 4? You need a LOT for the full SPF 15 rating. It makes no sense.

I used to never get sty’s, then I started using eyelash serum and started getting them every few months. The last one I got stayed a hard knot in the middle of my eyelid for 6 months! And it wasn’t shrinking. I finally had an ophthalmologist cut it out because it was obvious. U know how they get it out? They flip ur eyelid and squeeze it out like a zit. I was numbed up but it still hurt a lot! I, of course, stopped using lash serums, full stop.

Preface/disclaimer: obviously, not using ingredients that are comedogenic for you makes sense, and I agree that octinoxate sucks-because there are more modern/better sunscreen filters that I wish the US FDA would get off their asses to approve. But you (and anyone outside of places with certain regulations) don't need to worry about the "reef safe" marketing claims some companies make. Lab Muffin Beauty Science has some great content about what it means (or rather, what it doesn't mean), and she also touches on the topic in her latest video.

Number 10 blush is sold out on their website and I’m upset about it. I have 2 other shades and I love them. I wish I would have paid more attention to the tone of the bronzer. I ordered the light - medium and while it still looked beautiful it was not the best tone for me either. 100 is better. I’ve not had any issues with the SPF in it but I’m pretty sure that’s because it’s sitting on top of my makeup.
