HENDERSON, Nev. (IHCT) - An armed suspect was shot by an officer Thursday morning following what the Henderson Police Department (HPD) described as an "open-air" barricade situation.
Deputy Chief Jonathan Boucher stated during a press briefing that HPD officers responded to a report at 9 a.m. on the 1800 block of Ward Drive, near Sunset Road and Boulder Highway. The suspect was accused of pointing a firearm at another individual who was visiting a home in the area, leading to a standoff with police that lasted several hours.
After initially locating the suspect, officers lost him when he fled on foot. The pursuit continued, and officers later found the suspect near Margarita Avenue and Jefferson Boulevard.
Deputy Chief Boucher explained that during the chase, the suspect brandished a firearm and pointed it at the officers, prompting them to fire. Despite being shot, the suspect refused to surrender, leading to the involvement of SWAT and crisis negotiators.
The suspect sustained minor injuries and is currently receiving treatment at a nearby hospital. No officers were injured in the incident.
