If you show up to the track with a padded hoodie and jeans, not only will the laugh at you, the probably won't even let you on the track. Some tracks won't even let you on unless its a one piece track suit. However, the reverse can be said if you're commuting to work. Your coworkers would laugh at you for showing up in a one piece suit, but probably could get by with padded jeans and a padded hoodie. Its not going to protect you well at high speeds, but should still provide decent protecting at normal road speeds.

My ass can confirm that aramid reinforced jeans work with city speeds. I went for a slide and a small tumble at about 60 km/h (+-35mph), jeans and a hoodie came out almost untouched by that experience (sure, it was visible, but nothing was torn through). Gear I was wearing then was Shima Devon jeans and Ixon Touchdown hoodie. And they are 100x comfier off the bike than any leather I've ever worn

I dont understand the rebellion against proper gear in the u.s. ... its a rebellion againsg your health. Here in my european country its the opposite. People would laugh at you for riding without helmet or without gear. But if you walk into your workplace in a one piece track suit people would think its badass. Same with plazas or places like your walmart, if someone is walking in a one piece suit holding his helmet, people think its badass and he is a rider, most women like the track suits and helmets as well. Know some with biker gear kink.. riding without gear wont make you more "free" freedom doesnt come from stupidity and biker gear is certainly not created by a controlling government making you intentionally sweaty. It was created to save lives FOR the bikers not AGAINST the bikers, so they can enjoy their hobby for more time and not having to be buried at 20.

Along with that i wear either my leather riding jacket OR my Alpinestar riding jacket. And i never worry too much about being protected from a slide if and when i go down. Now i would NOT wear just a regular "riding hoodie", i would much rather have one of those fitted riding "shirts" also made from fevlar with armor pads in them. They would fit tighter than a hoodie and not slide around, Plus you could wear a jacket over it for added protection. But actual PROPER riding jeans, ARE FINE and WILL protect you in a slide. Granted i paid $350 for mine, and i would never think about going the "cheap" route.

But for everyday riding, enjoying some nice twisties, the riding hoodies and riding jeans can absolutely be enough, depending on which one you have. I dont think this is track related, your sending across the wrong message and making it seem like "commuting gear" wont protect you at all which is the furthest from the truth. Nobody is going to show up at a track with “commuting gear” like an armored hoodie because you are pushing limits at a track. Its obviously asked in respect to commuting. Like ya you can say wear a leather suite to be best protected while commuting which obviously is true. But lets also be realistic, who wants to suite up in a track suite to go to work or store and change in and out of. Not many people. So wearing an armored hoodie/jacket and some armored kevlar jeans is a decent option compared to going t-shirt and denim jeans. Nd if you shop for good gear that has reputable abrasion test rating they can very much protect you better than you would expect in the event of a city accident, usually shopping Europe is the best option they actually test their shit well out there and have stricter guidelines to be met for each of their ratings. Nd for the love of god those of you who are like its not you its the cars around you and their shit driving, oh please cut the bs. Have good lane positioning nd read traffic patterns and you will be fine. If your the type to blame cars for merging onto you and expect everyone to notice you when you have terrible lane position is actually annoying to hear from alot of you riders. Stop blaming cars and figure why the situation happened nd where you should have been in your lane to prevent or avoid it. I ride in CA during heavy traffic all the time we split lanes during moving traffic all the time, your responsible for reading traffic patterns and being visible and being able to have an escape route at every moment. Stop blaming cars, 99% of these accident are avoidable so avoid them
