To be honest this is a temporary solution, in this situation a Zimbabwean Army - Police Way is required. Recruit taxi drivers as informants, they know all the criminals in most neighborhoods. Get into these areas unannounced, midnight break into all suspects households, search the places and torment all suspects till proven innocent. A civilian must know that when the army is deployed, it's no joke time. Please keep your human rights comments to yourself, those living in fear have rights too. Rather have fear of the police and army than fear of fellow civilians. People in these communities are safe at work than at home. Home must home irrespective of it being a mansion or a shack

The police in the western cape are the problem, the amount of corruption and collusion with criminals is unbelievable. The police know every drug house in any neighborhood, they won't search the premises even when a murder is committed in those on that premises. Besides that the SAPS is also under staffed and not trained well enough. If only they policed theirs own neighborhoods maybe they would take things more seriously. The most important question is, where do they get the guns and ammunition from? Why aren't crime hot spots place under camera surveillance with a rapid response team? Monitor and search suspicious vehicles entering and leaving these place? What is the SANDF standing there gonna do? The Western cape is in a state of emergency.

@@jjdynomite9668 Boetie, fix the Caps Lock issue on your keyboard. It's pathetic! The crime wave in the Cape Flats started during Apartheid and was a direct consequence of Apartheid social engineering. The Boer Regime deliberately supplied the drugs to the ghettos. Remember how Wouter Basson was caught with tons of Mandrax in the 1990s? It was the regime that had the means and facilities to mass manufacture those drugs and then distribute it to criminal elements in the ghetto as a strategy to weaken the popular resistance in the Cape Flats, since the Cape Flats (like Soweto in the former Transvaal) was one of the hot spots of the South African pro-democracy mass movement against the illegitimate rule of the Boer nationalist regime.

i think this is a good move but the military needs to compliment with national intelligence agency, and military intelligence, and do home searches and arrests of all the suspects, this should be an ongoing operation for atleast 12 months to clean up the communities around south Africa, this display of power will only help if and only if the gang members get arrested and wipe out all unregistered fire arms. thumps up to the soldiers, you are the good guys in the bad lands. johannesburg is waiting as well.

This is a joint strategic operation which will allow police to actively conduct investigations and to apprehend gang leaders and criminals. Across South Africa police are unable to apprehend criminals due to the areas that house them. The death toll of good decent police men and women are staggering as they are out-manned, out-gunned and out-numbered, this will be a more visible scene to come in SA.The violent protests, CIT heist, Murders, rapes, drugs, robbery, is at a proportionate level and is costing us taxpayers millions every year, there is a cleanup afoot, the scourge and rot of society will therefor be removed. Have faith we will Re-build.
